month Father Felix will officially become a citizen

steps necessary and later in May will take his
oath. To celebrate this special
time, on the weekend of May 16-17
you are invited to the church hall

Congratulations, Father Felix.
Laurel House, a comfort care home, is in
the process of coming to life in Newark.
We hope to accept our first resident in Fall
2016. Since April of 2013 a few people
were talking about and quietly working
toward Laurel House becoming a reality. In November 2014
a larger area wide group of individuals met to talk more
about this project. Since then the group has grown considerably. Committees have been working on many aspects and
the entire group meets about once a month. Our next
meeting is at Lyons Presbyterian Church on May 7 at 2 pm.
Our meetings are open and you are invited to come and see
what we are all about. If you are unable to attend on May
7th, the next meeting will be an evening meeting, date and
place to be announced. If you would like to know more,
contact Pat at the Parish Center.

Fifth Sunday Of Easter
individuos dar fruto. El fruto es algo a la esencia de la persona;

Fifth Sunday Of Easter
St. Michael’s Church
Newark, New York
Dear Parish Family,
In today’s Gospel reading from John, we hear the
story of the Vine and the Branches. Jesus is speaking to
his disciples and, metaphorically, telling them that he is
the true vine and his Father is the vine grower. We are
the branches on that vine and the Father would be very
pleased to see us, the branches, bear much fruit. As long
as we remain in Him, we will be that branch bearing
fruit.
As I reflected on this reading, I was asking myself,
how do I remain in him? And what fruit does he want
me to bear?
I believe that remaining in Him begins at our Baptism
and continues throughout our lives with the other
sacraments we celebrate. I believe we remain in Him by
prayer, celebrating Mass, and loving one another.
I couldn’t help but think of my Confirmation and the
time I spent preparing for it. During the preparation, I
learned that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit that are given in
Baptism, are strengthened in us in Confirmation. It is
through these Gifts we receive the Fruits of the Holy
Spirit, which are the result of the Holy Spirit’s action in
our lives. It is by “bearing” these Fruits of the Spirit that
we remain in Him.
We can do nothing without God because it is only
when we remain in God that we are able to bear much
fruit for the purpose He has for us in our lives.
As a little reminder, the Gifts of the Spirit are:
Wisdom, Understanding, Right judgment (Counsel),
Courage (Fortitude), Knowledge, Reverence (Piety), and
Wonder and awe (Fear of the Lord). The Fruits of the
Spirit are: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty,
self-control, and chastity.
Peace & Blessings to all, June
NCYC FUNDRAISER
We are planning a “S'more Fun” raffle “basket”, to raise
money for our trip to the National Catholic Youth Conference.
There are four youth who will be attending the conference
from St. Michael Church and we would appreciate any support
that our parish family could offer. We are asking for your
help with donating items for the “basket”. If it is easier for
you to give a monetary donation, and leave the shopping part
up to us, you could place that in an envelope, write NCYC on
the front of the envelope and place it in the collection basket
during mass. But, if you would rather donate an item, here is a
list of things we are looking to include in the “basket” outdoor fire pit (this would be the basket part), Duraflame fire
logs, lighters, outdoor games, Hershey chocolate bars, Reese's
peanut butter cups, marshmallows, graham crackers,
flashlights & batteries, skewers (for roasting), backyard
games, bug repellent, paper plates, cups, napkins, plastic
eating utensils, and grilling utensils
(spatula, pair of tongs). The “basket”
will be put on display and tickets will be
sold the first weekend in June after each
weekend mass. We will sell tickets
through the month of June and the
winner will be drawn on July 1st, just in
time for the July 4th weekend! If you
have any questions, please call June at
the office.
