As you reflect on God’s Word, may He strengthen you with His peace. May the good Lord bless you and your dear family abundantly each day. Please pray for me. In Christ, Msgr. Pablo A. Even the great Persian king Cyrus was an instrument of God. And Caesar’s power was not absolute. Some things belong to the state and others belong to God. Jesus reminds us that government has an essential role to play but our ultimate allegiance must be to God. We are called to advocate for those who are denied human rights by voicing our opposition – respectfully – and to seek solutions that benefit all God’s people. “Everyone… needs to give priority to one of the most urgent goals for the human family: freedom from hunger... it is necessary to ensure not only that enough food is available, but also that everyone has daily access to it… to guarantee fully the right to food.” -- Pope Benedict XVI, Message for World Food Day, 2010. Page 4 October 19, 2014 A MINUTE IN THE CHURCH; ONE MINUTE CATHOLIC APOLOGETICS Apologetics- the branch of theology concerned with the defense and rational justification of Christianity (in our case, Catholicism). Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks for a reason for your hope. 1 Peter 3:15 Same Sex “Marriage” Same-sex “marriage” is a real hot-button issue these days. Many people are asking, “Why is the Catholic Church so opposed to gay marriage?” First of all, the Church proclaims loudly that all people, regardless of sexual orientation or anything else, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. She also teaches that any sexual relations, heterosexual or homosexual, outside of marriage are sinful and immoral. The Church believes that marriage is not merely a human institution, but a Sacrament, designed by God and given by Christ, who quoted Genesis 2:24- “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, and be joined to his wife: and they shall become one flesh.” So marriage always has been and always will be the union of one man and one woman in a sacramental bond. This is the way that God has designed marriage, and human beings have no authority to redefine it. Many will tout the fact that a majority of Catholics today believe that gays should be allowed to marry. But the Church cannot “change the rules” and define doctrine by popular opinion. She is tasked with teaching and upholding the truths that God has given to mankind. 33 DAYS TO MORNING GLORY A RETREAT WITH MARY, OUR BLESSED MOTHER It is meant to inspire and empower anyone to draw closer to Jesus through Mary. Take this retreat and let St. Louis de Monfort, St. Maximillian Kolbe, Blessed John Paul II and Blessed Mother Teresa lead you into the mystical wonder of the Immaculate Heart.
