THE TRIDUUM
Lent ends when the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday begins,
because the Mass of the Lord’s Supper ushers in the Holy Triduum, a liturgical
season in its own right and the shortest of the liturgical year.
Holy Thursday is more than just the lead-in to Good Friday; it is, in fact, the oldest
of the celebrations of Holy Week. And with good reason: Holy Thursday is the day
on which Catholics commemorate the institution of three pillars of the Catholic Faith:
the Sacrament of Holy Communion, the Sacramental priesthood, and the Mass.
`During the Last Supper, Christ blessed the bread and wine with the very words that
priests use today to consecrate the Body and Blood of Christ during the Mass and
the Divine Liturgy. In telling His disciples to "Do this in remembrance of Me," He
instituted the Mass and made them the first priests.
(Information obtained from Catholic Answers. and about religion)
HOLY WEEK SCHEDULE
Holy Thursday Mass will be celebrated at St. Clare at 7pm followed
by silent adoration at the Altar of Repose until midnight. Good Friday services in the Church from 12 noon
to 3pm in English, 4pm in the Church parking lot, there will be a
re-enactment of the Stations of the Cross prayed in Spanish, 7pm
there will be bi-lingual services in the church. Mass on Holy
Saturday at 7pm—this Mass will include reception of new Catholics and lasts
about 3 hours. Easter Sunday Masses will be celebrated at 7:30, 9, 11 & 12:45

commemorate Christ’s sacrifice in prayer.
Be a part of carrying the cross & placing it on top!
*This is a family event so parents and siblings are welcome*

Making the most of Holy Week:
Here are a few suggestions to use with your family.
* Use the palms distributed at mass to make a cross to place in the home over the front door during
the week. Purchase an Easter Lily to donate to church.
* Attend evening service on Holy Thursday at church. Discuss what you would say
or do if you knew it was your last supper. Think about how brave Jesus was to
know what he was going to experience at dawn. Serve grapes and pass around a
loaf of bread to symbolize the wine and bread Jesus shared with His disciples.
Share as a family any changes each person experienced during Lent. What did
each person learn about themselves?
* Decide as a family to abstain from dining out on Good Friday. Consider making a
simple dinner. Cover any crosses at home with purple fabric and do not uncover
until Easter morning. Join the Just Chillin’2 group on a hike if you have children
ages 8 and up.
* Attend Easter Sunday services and celebrate Christ’s resurrection!
Friendly Reminders: Home Study Holy Week Prayer Service is coming up on
Monday, March 30th at 7PM in the Parish Hall. Please call R.E. office
at 252.6950 to RSVP.

From the Prayer of the Archdiocese for Military Services
Almighty God and Father, look with love upon our men and women in uniform and protect them in their time of need. Give
them health and stability and allow them to return to their loved ones whole and unshaken. Be with their families and
sustain them in these uncertain times. Hear us as we present our prayers to You through Christ our Lord.
CARE FOR
CREATION
The U.S. Catholic Bishops recognize that global
climate change is a moral issue which threatens
Creation, places added burdens on poor people,
and compromises the common good of all.
Numerous Holy Fathers including Pope Benedict
and now Pope Francis have spoken specifically
about our moral obligation to curb human actions
and choices that seriously contribute to global
warming. We are called to care for creation not
only as responsible citizens, but also as followers
of Christ! Be informed about Catholic teaching on
this topic and how you can be involved in making a
positive difference. ATTEND A FREE INFORMATIONAL EVENING AT THE NEWHALL PUBLIC LIBRARY, APRIL 8TH FROM 6:30PM TO 7:30PM IN
THE COMMUNITY ROOM. Check out these websites:
www.catholicclimatecovenant.org and http://
www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/faithfulcitizenship/
You are invited to join with the
Santa Clarita Grandmothers (and
others) for Peace as we hold our
monthly vigil at the corner of
McBean Parkway and Valencia Blvd.
**** Our usual meeting day is the
first Sunday of the month—however, we will not
meet on Easter Sunday. Instead, we will be
meeting today — Palm Sunday, March 29th.
3:00pm to 4:00pm. You are welcome to bring your
own sign or borrow one of ours. For more info, call:

Need Prayer?
REMEMBER THE SOWER
Every Tuesday at 7pm in the Church join us
for music, prayer and praise. The Sower
has joined us at St. Clare—check it out!
Are you aware that you can leave a prayer
request on our website? Just go to st-clare.org
and click on “Community”. You will find the
official place to be able to type in a request for
you or a loved one. Let your community help
pray for you and check it frequently, so you
can keep others in prayer too.
