Lent is a penitential season of
prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
Do you need to be more prayerful,
more generous or more forgiving;
can you reconcile with someone? The point is to grow
spiritually. So, if you don't pray enough, don't just give
up dessert - set aside time for prayer each day.

Feast of Saint Patrick, Bishop
Tuesday, March 17
Saint Patrick was born in Scotland around 385. At the
age of 14, he was captured by a raiding party and taken to
Ireland to tend sheep. During his captivity he turned to
God in prayer and, as a young adult, he studied for the
priesthood. Later, Patrick became a Bishop. He preached
the Gospel and converted many throughout Ireland for
over 40 years. He died in 461 and is the Patron Saint of
Ireland.
Feast of Saint Joseph
Thursday, March 19
We know that St. Joseph: came
from the royal lineage of King
David, was the chaste husband of
the Blessed Virgin Mary, was the
foster father of Jesus, a carpenter, and a righteous man.
He is the patron saint of: the universal Church, of fathers,
the dying, and of social justice.
In honor of his feast day, we will distribute St. Joseph’s
pastries after the 8:30 a.m. Mass in the Rectory.

Lenten Regulations
Abstinence: All Catholics who have reached their 14th
year are bound to abstain totally from meat on all Fridays
during Lent.
Fasting: All Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59
inclusive, are also bound to observe the law of fasting on
Good Friday. This practice involves limiting oneself to a
single full meal and avoiding food between meals. Light
sustenance may be taken on two other occasions in the
course of the day.
Easter Duty: After they have been initiated into the
Most Holy Eucharist, all the faithful are bound by the
obligation of receiving Communion at least once a year.
This precept must be fulfilled during the Easter season unless for a good reason - it is fulfilled at another time
during the year.

During our last PPC meeting, on February 24th, we
discussed: the upcoming Bread and Soup Supper and our
annual Ministry Fair. If you have anything that you wish
to be brought up at an upcoming meeting, please drop a
note off at the Rectory.

Cuarto Domingo de Cuaresma
Tanto amó Dios al mundo… (Juan 3, 16)
¿Con qué podríamos comparar el amor de Dios?
¿Quién podría sumergirse hasta sus profundidades o encumbrarse a sus alturas? Cuando Dios se reveló a Moisés,
se identificó con su atributo más sobresaliente: “¡Yo soy
el Señor, el Señor Dios, compasivo y clemente, paciente,
misericordioso y fiel!” (Éxodo 34, 6-7). ¿Quién podría
comprender semejante bondad? ¿Hay algo en la tierra o
en el cielo que se le parezca?
Tan potente es el amor de Dios que el pecado y la
iniquidad no lo resisten. Así también nosotros, si negamos
o rechazamos la fuerza de este amor, corremos el peligro
de separarnos de él y sufrir la muerte física y espiritual. El
amor de Dios es más poderoso que la muerte misma, porque “Dios es tan misericordioso y nos amó tanto, que nos
dio vida juntamente con Cristo cuando todavía estábamos
muertos a causa de nuestros pecados” (Efesios 2, 4-5).
Gracias a Jesús, tenemos acceso al insondable amor del
Padre. La muerte y la resurrección de Cristo son las revelaciones supremas del amor divino. Jesús nos ha redimido
del pecado y de las tinieblas y nos ha dado una vida nueva
e incorruptible en el Espíritu.
Si creemos en el inmenso amor del Padre, ¿por qué a
veces Dios nos parece tan lejano? ¿Por qué nos parecen
tan abstractas las verdades de nuestra fe? Dios es generoso en amor, pero nos llama a corresponderle ese amor renunciando al pecado y poniéndonos bajo el resplandor de
su luz. Nuestro peor enemigo es el pecado en el mundo y
también en nuestro corazón. Nadie que disfrute de la oscuridad busca la luz, pero si renunciamos al pecado y nos
acercamos a Cristo, él disipa las tinieblas y nos resucita a
la vida eterna. El segundo impedimento más grande para
conocer la plenitud del amor de Dios es el desconocimiento de su amor y de las verdades de nuestra salvación.
Preocúpate hermano de aprenderlas, especialmente estudiando el Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica.
“Padre amado, te pedimos que tu luz y tu amor iluminen
a todos tus hijos para que podamos ver y rechazar las
obras de la oscuridad.”
Para que Dios, que es rico en misericordia, bendiga a
quienes son llamados por Jesús a servirlo en Su Iglesia
como sacerdotes, diáconos, y en la vida consagrada.
