Lent is a time to set our eyes on Easter and how we going to arrive there. I hope you have thought and prayed about how you are to honor the season of Lent, searching for a way to become more Christ like; more faith-filled. Remember the three areas that the Ash Wednesday Gospel gave to us: 1) improving our relationship with God; 2) improving our relationship with others; 3) bringing better habits into the care of our bodies. Try to pick something for each area. This past weekend, I announced the need that Father Juan Pablo (the pastor of San Francisco de Asis) has for a newer, four-wheel drive truck. He asked for our assistance. While I do not have an exact cost figure, we probably need to raise $20,000. The road conditions in his parish are so bad that this vehicle is a “must”. If you can help, please put something in the collection basket for “Honduras Truck” or send to the parish office. This is a direct need for the pastor and people of Honduras and I ask that you join me in supporting them. Do not forget the Stations of the Cross that are held each Friday during Lent at 7 PM. We are also having Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Fridays from 9:15 to 5:15 during Lent. Come and spend some quiet time with the Lord. God’s Blessings and Love, Bible Study Begins Soon! On Thursday evening, March 5th from 7:00-9:00pm, a series will begin called “Walking Toward Eternity: Daring to Walk the Walk.” This study shows how to put our Catholic faith into practice through prayer and action. The series will introduce seven key virtues and outline practical steps for living them out in daily life. Registration ahead of time is not necessary. Deut 6, 16). View this bulletin online at www.TheCatholicDirectory.com HOLY SPIRIT CHURCH Today, we will have a second collection for the Black and Indian Missions that are served through the Archdiocese. We have also included some information about another worthy organization that helps Native American Indians who live in poverty on the reservations. Not too long ago, the Sioux Indians occupied much of the American Great Plains. They lived in harmony with the elk and buffalo, and their world spread throughout what is now the Dakotas and Minnesota. Their homes were the outdoors. The grass of the plains was their floor; the sky above formed their ceiling. They respected the land, and in return, the land provided for their existence. Today, many American Indians live on reservations where the land they once cherished can no longer provide for them as it once did. Life on the reservations now is more disheartening than ever, as the struggle to keep their traditions alive conflicts with the never-ending cycle of poverty, unemployment, depression, and suicide. The American Indian Relief Council fights to overcome the challenges of the reservations by spending program dollars on emergency relief for clothing, shelter, and food services. Your donations make a direct impact on the lives of Native American Indians living in poverty. Visit the website at: www.airc.orgor call 1.800.370.0872 for more information on how to help.
