Participemos de lleno en la Misa
Let’s participate fully in Mass
La celebración de la eucaristía o misa debe envolver toda la comunidad. Jesús invita a todos a escuchar la Palabra de Dios y recibir su cuerpo y su
sangre. La misa no es una oración privada sino la
oración del pueblo de fe, la Iglesia. Ofrecemos
nuestras propias oraciones pero lo hacemos juntos
con nuestros hermanos y hermanas en el Señor. Y
nos unimos en oración comunal.
¿Cómo participamos?
Algunas personas vienen a misa
y no hablan a nadie ni cantan.
Parecen pasivos. En realidad,
estamos llamados a acoger a
otros, saludarles, y aun ofrecerles un saludo de paz. Queremos
sentir que somos una comunidad y fortalecerla.
Cantamos: Estamos llamados a cantar con todo nuestro corazón mientras que estamos alabando a Dios juntos. San
Agustín dijo “Cantar a Dios es
orar dos veces,” una vez con
palabras y otra vez con melodía.
Después de la primera
lectura nos sentamos y reflexionamos sobre la lectura cantando
el responsorial. Cantamos canciones de alegría, alabanza, perdón, lucha y más.
Mientras que cantamos, estamos orando.

The celebration of the Eucharist or Mass involves
the whole community. Jesus invites everyone to
hear the Word of God and receive his Body and
Blood. It is not a private prayer but the prayer of
the people of faith, the Church. We all offer our
own prayers but we do it together with our brothers and sisters in the Lord. And we join in common prayer.
How do we participate?
Some people come to Mass and
speak to no one and don’t sing.
They seem passive. But we are
called to welcome others, greet
them, and offer them a sign of
peace. We are asked to sing our
hearts out as we together praise
God in song. St. Augustine said
“To sing to God is to pray
twice,” once with words and once with music.
After the first reading we
sit and reflect singing a responsorial song meditating on the
words We sing joyful songs,
songs of praise and struggle,
and more. As we sing, we pray.
Many people come to Mass at
St. Pius V because the music is
alive and engaging. It lifts our spirits. We show
the lyrics on a screen for all to see because we
want everyone to sing the praises of our God. Le-

levanta el espíritu. Ponemos las palabras de las
canciones en la pantalla para que todos las vean

Procesiones: Entramos en procesiones
que nos llevan al altar. Entramos el templo por
nuestra cuenta pero nos unimos cantando mientras que el sacerdote, monaguillos, y lectores entran en procesión solemne atrás de la cruz. Nos
paramos mientras que el sacerdote y monaguillos
hacen procesión con el libro de los evangelios.
Tenemos otra procesión para llevar nuestra ofrenda al altar. Todos debemos entrar aunque no tengamos dinero para la colecta porque somos del
pueblo y tenemos algo que ofrecer a Dios, como
nuestras alegrías, penas y gracias.
Entramos en procesión para recibir la comunión, y finalmente, hay procesión de salida que hacemos cantando la canción de
envío para vivir el evangelio
y llevarlo a otras personas.
Posturas y gestos:
Comenzamos la misa parados cantando la canción de
inicio. Nos persignamos con
el símbolo de Dios Trino.
Nos golpeamos el pecho para expresar nuestro arrepentimiento.
Durante las dos lecturas nos sentamos para escuchar y reflexionar pero nos paramos para
el evangelio, mostrando nuestro respeto y atención al mensaje de Jesús. Nos cogimos las manos
durante el Padre Nuestro, un símbolo fuerte de
nuestra unidad como Iglesia. Parados recibimos la
comunión en la boca o en las manos.
Unas personas quieren ponerse de rodillas
durante la misa, una postura con una historia variada. Los primeros cristianos se pararon durante
la misa por respeto. Hincarse fue una postura de
mostrar penitencia. Pero después de cientos de
años, la gente empezó a hincarse, no por penitencia sino por reverencia. Casi en todas partes del
mundo los católicos se paran durante la misa pero
en EEUU los obispos han querido que nos hinquemos durante la oración eucarística.

Responses: During the Mass the people
respond in different ways, usually to the priest,
e.g., And with your spirit, or Amen, Praise to you
Lord Jesus Christ after the gospel Reading, or
beginning the preface, “It iis right and just,” etc.
It is important that everyone participate and respond in a loud voice. This helps anímate the assembly and give life to the celebration.
Processions: We join in processions that
lead us to the altar. We enter church on our own,
then join in song for servers, lectors, deacon and
priest process behind the cross in procession—a
solemn entrance. We stand and sing for the procession of the priest and servers who carry the
book of the Gospels to be read.
We join another procession as we walk to
the altar to present our personal offering in the
collection. Everyone should participate in the procession because we all have something to give to
God. If we have no money, we still come forward
to offer our joys, sorrows, or our thanks to God.
The procession symolizes and enacts our
offering. At communion we join in another procession as we come forward to
receive the Body and Blood of Jesus.
Finally, we conclude Mass by singing a
recessional song as we process out to
live the Gospel and bring the good news
to others.
Postures and gestures: We
begin Mass standing to receive the ministers and sing an opening song. We
make the sign of the cross as a symbol
of our unity with the Triune God. We
beat our breast during the penitential rite as a
sign of our repentance.
During the two readings we sit to listen and
reflect but we stand during the Gospel to show our
respect and attention to the message of Jesus.
We hold hands across the church while praying
the Our Father, a powerful symbol of our unity as
church. We receive communion in our mouths or
in our hands while standing.
Some people like to kneel at times during
the Mass, a posture that has had a varied history.
The early Christians celebrated Mass standing out
of respect. Kneeling was primarily a posture of penitence. After hundreds of years, people began to
kneel at Mass, not out of penitence but reverence.
In most parts of the world, Catholics continue to
stand during the eucharistic prayer but the U.S.
bishops have recently wanted people to kneel.
