There are scores of instances in the Four Gospels which indicate
Jesus praying. He often would go off alone to pray, but He also prayed
with others publicly; He prayed before He made a choice, before
He healed someone, and He was just as likely to pray after as well.
St. Paul exhorts us to “pray constantly, never ceasing.” Jesus, perhaps
more than any other, fulfilled this admonition. He provides to us
the perfect example of both how we should pray and in what ways.
Prayer is at the foundation of our faith; it is at the core of a stewardship way of life. Developing an ongoing, consistent and active
prayer life is paramount for each of us.
Prayer not only indicates our constant awareness of God, but it
enhances our lives, and is an indication of our total trust in God.
Trust in God is also an important facet of stewardship. Knowing
that we are in God’s hands and in His care is what strengthens us
and allows us to make the commitment Jesus has asked us to make.
One of Jesus’ final prayers is one which offers us the suggestion of
how we need to approach life: “Father, into thy hands I commend

“Levantándose muy temprano, antes del amanecer, salió y se fue a

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima,/
Queridos parroquianos y amigos de Nuestra Señora de Fátima,
Lent is just around the corner. It is one
of my favorite times of the Catholic year.
Ash Wednesday is February 18. Many
people will find their ways into Catholic
and other Christian churches to receive a
visible mark on their foreheads. It marks
the beginning of this new season. It’s a
time for us to look back and to look forward. It’s a fixed amount of time to work
on our spiritual life. It gives us a chance
to get rid of some baggage or start living
a better way. And it ends with the Sacred
Triduum and then the Resurrection on
Easter Sunday.
La Cuaresma está a la vuelta de la esquina. Es uno de mis tiempos
favoritos del año católico. El Miércoles de Ceniza es el 18 de febrero.
Mucha gente encontrar su camino hacia la iglesia Católica y otras
iglesias cristianas para recibir una marca visible en la frente. Marca
el comienzo de esta nueva temporada. Es un momento para nosotros
mirar hacia atrás y mirar hacia adelante. Es una cantidad fija de

spending more time in prayer, or doing more spiritual reading.

How will I firm up the Lenten habits of prayer, fasting
and almsgiving?
I do this now, so that when Lent arrives I’m ready to roll. I entered
Lent before without a plan and all of sudden it’s the third Sunday
and all I’ve done is eat Filet-O-Fish sandwiches on the Fridays, if I
remember to do that. I don’t want to be that Fr. Jim. Join me this year
and create a plan for your Lenten Journey now.

Healing grace
Have you ever been so depressed that you prayed a prayer
similar to Job’s prayer in our first reading? That honesty
of Job’s was a hallmark of his trust in God. When we pray,
and pray for others, God is pleased with our trust. In those
moments God can give us his healing grace so that we can
help others have spiritual healing, as well. Jesus lives that
perfectly in our Gospel and we are called imitate that.

Esa honestidad de Job fue un sello distintivo de su confianza
en Dios. Cuando oramos, y oramos por otros, Dios está
contento con nuestra confianza. En esos momentos Dios
puede darnos su gracia sanadora para que podamos ayudar

◆◆ On the two days of fasting only one full meal is allowed. Two
other meals may be taken, but together they should not equal
another full meal. Meat is not allowed. Eating between meals is
not permitted, but liquids are allowed.
◆◆ Where health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the
law does not oblige.
In order to deepen our love of Christ, Catholics are encouraged to:
participate at daily Mass, pray more fervently, give generously to religious and charitable work, do some act of penance and self-denial,
especially regarding alcoholic drink and social entertainment.
◆◆ A las personas de 14 años de edad o mayores les obliga la
abstinencia (no comer carne) todos los viernes de Cuaresma.
◆◆ Quienes ya cumplieron 18 años hasta los 60 años de edad les

PSA2015
Our parish goal for the 2015 Pastoral Services Appeal is for at least
50% of families to pledge $103,000 to support faith formation,
outreach ministries, clergy formation, and support and parish and
diocesan advancement. Gifts made over that amount will go toward
getting us one bite closer to our dream of building a new church. The
PSA provides a convenient way for all of us, no matter what our time
limitations, to take an active role in the mission of the church. As a
guide to a proportionate gift, please consider pledging a percent of
your income, or the pay for one or two hours work each month for
ten months. You can submit your PSA pledge envelope during Masses
this weekend or next, or return them to the parish office.
La meta de nuestra parroquia para el Pedido para los Servicios

New Colors in the Church / Los Colores Nuevos
en la Iglesia
The goal of this three part series is to give everyone an insight into
our new interior colors and how to let them help you pray better. In
choosing a darker shade for the central panels, the goal is to emphasize the altar. Hopefully the darker shade draws eyes inward to
focus on the central mystery of our Sunday prayer: Jesus as altar and
sacrifice. The walls are a lighter color, but still darker than before. This
will give warmth throughout the building.

OLF PARISH SCHOOL NEWS
Celebration of Catholic Schools Week:
Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service
Our week kicked-off with the Sunday 9am Children’s Mass where
many of our students took on active roles including choir members,
greeters, readers, and Offertory participants. Our school campus
was abuzz all day with student-led tours, classroom visits, a schoolwide Science Fair display and student-made/student run science
games to play. We appreciate all of the visitors who took the time to
drop by and especially want to thank all of the OLF staff, students
and parents that gave of their time and talent to help make this day
so successful.
One of the many highlights of the week was Community Appreciation Day. All classes went to a San Clemente establishment to present them with a certificate and to thank them for their dedication
to our town.
Our TK students visited the parish office and K students went to
the SC Sports Complex. First graders visited Senor de Casa; second
graders went to the San Clemente life guards; and third grade
students visited City Hall. OLF fourth grade students visited Family
Assistance Ministries; 5th graders went to the local fire station;
and the sixth grade class visited the sheriff volunteers. Our seventh
grade class went to Rainbow Sandals and our eighth grade students
visited the San Clemente Boys & Girls Club.
