3rd West African Clean Energy & Environment Exhibition & Conference 10 - 12 February 2015 Accra International Conference Centre www.wacee.net CONFERENCE PARTNERS PATRON ORGANISERS Delegation der Deutschen Wirtschaft in Ghana Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana Content 4 Welcoming addresses 12 Visitor Information 14 Thank you 16 Conference Programme 25 Selection of speaker profiles 38 ABC Quickfinder 40 Exhibitors’ List 60 Index - Exhibitors’ list (Field of Activity) welcoming addresses Honorable Akwasi Oppong-Fosu Minister of Environment, Science Technology and Innovation Ghana is at the dawn of a new era. Renewable energy technologies enable us to produce energy from materials that are regenerative and normally would be considered as waste that cause harm to the environment. This exhibition and conference will help Ghana and Africa realize alternatives to solving its environmental issues and bring nature back to its original ecological cycle. Hence, striving to achieve a healthy environment, given that the advent of climate change and global warming is paramount, the employment of clean energy technologies is crucial to securing Ghana’s future. The WACEE 15 is an important trade show in this direction. Therefore, we as the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation will support any initiative that comes out of this trade show. Honorable Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah Minister of Energy and Petroleum Ghana’s rapid economic growth has triggered the need for supporting energy infrastructure such as Renewable Energy technologies. As a result, the Government of Ghana has set structures in place such as the Renewable Energy Act, to promote the exploration of clean energy and environmental resources for the benefit of its populace. Ghana is an exporter of energy to countries in the West African sub-region, and we are pleased that the WACEE serves as a platform for power generators, technology suppliers, investor, industry experts and political and economic decision makers from the West African sub-region and beyond. To develop and facilitate the formulation of energy sector policies is the ministries task and conferences such as WACEE serve as platform for policy impact assessment. Therefore, we urge the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana to continue organizing such a wonderful event, and we assure our full commitment and support for the upcoming WACEE 15. Sustainably harnessing Ghana’s resources to enhance national access to power is our primary concern as the Ministry of Energy. Hence, all initiatives such as the West African Clean Energy and Environment Conference (WACEE) that seek to promote the development of Ghana’s Renewable Energy and Environment sector are welcome. 4 Honorable Julius Debrah Minister of Local Government and Rural Development A major concern for the Ministry of local Government and Rural development is waste and liquid waste management and treatment. Environmental disasters and disease occur when the requisite methods are not used in the proper disposal of waste. water and energy problems. Waste to energy and source separation is on of the options, the Ministry intends to explore. The 3rd West African Clean Energy & Environment Exhibition & Conference 2015 is going to focus on waste management and water treatment, which will unearth practical solutions to solve some of our waste and rural I believe this years discussions will go a long way to helping curb the waste problems facing our local governments and Rural areas in Ghana. Hence, we express our gratitude to the organization of WACEE `15. Ambassador Ruediger John German Embassy Accra West Africa can look back on an impressive development over the last years. This is not least reflected in high growth rates of energy consumption. German Industry and Commerce (AHK) in Accra and the German trade show specialists fairtrade organize the third WACEE this year. WACEE is an international exhibition and conference specializing in the balanced development of the energy and environmental sector. In the course of a few years, WACEE has become a true success-story – 51 exhibitors coming from 8 countries present their products and services this year. I look particularly forward to visiting the official “made in Germany”- pavilion with 20 German exhibitors in addition to an information stand. Especially emerging markets with a fastmoving industrialization process need solutions for sustainable growth in order to save the legacy for future generations. Ghana has therefore decided to seek for answers to these challenges in renewable energy sources, especially wind and solar. German businesses and institutions can help with that, because they are global market leaders. We are glad that the Delegation of I would be glad to meet you there! 5 Ambassador Frédéric Clavier French Embassy Accra I congratulate and acknowledge the organizers of this third edition of the “West African Clean Energy and Environment Exhibition” for the choice of topics selected: energetic efficacy, electric engineering, environmental technologies, treatment and recycling of solid wastes such as water treatment are indeed actual and important topics in Ghana. The water sector and sanitation is also another important sector in which the AFD has financed five projects recently (3 in the Central Region, 1 in the Easter Region and 1 in the Northern Region) for a total of 45,8 M€. The agency has also intervened in support for Ghana Water Company Limited through a non-sovereign loan. In rural areas, a water supply and sanitation project for small towns and pre-urban areas has been funded by the AFD (Brong Ahafo region, March 2008 to December 2012). The water treatment such as solid wastes represents a great challenge in Accra and in various African agglomerations as well. The development of “clean” energies, renewable (solar, biomass) is also a challenge. Some of our companies have already harnessed to respond. These few projects are still on the “spotlights” for the country needs which remains very important in these areas. Henceforward, there is no doubt that the private sector and companies should be encouraged to play a key role in these areas either through public service concessions or under the “public private partnership” (PPP). I fully measure it through the French companies I meet according to their missions in Ghana. Indeed, the traditional door interventions remain crucial in most of these sectors. The French Agency for development have therefore made energy one of its key areas in Ghana. Among its recent intervention, I think of the 4 turbines rehabilitation at the Kpong barrage (50M€), the Ghana-Burkina Faso electric interconnection and a 330 KV Kumasi-Bolgatanga line creation through a non-sovereign loan of 141 M€ at Gridco (electric transmission operator) whose tender is in process, as well as Proparco participation in the consortium of the Takoradi 2 central electric (11,2M€). In this respect, the new legislative framework under discussion, will be a very important direction of the business community on areas still not exposed to international competition. I wish you a very good exhibition and congratulate the organizers for their initiative. 6 7 Message of welcome by the organizers Patrick Martens, Delegate of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana and Martin März, CEO of fairtrade On behalf of the entire organizing team of AHK Ghana and fairtrade, we have the great pleasure to welcome all our distinguished guests, exhibitors and visitors to WACEE 2015.
