SDSC Presidents Report
Its November already, where has the year gone? Looking back we have a lot to be
thankful for this year.
First off we have already had our first snowfall of the season. I know it’s not
enough to ride but it sure was exciting on Saturday to see all the white stuff falling
from the skies. Hopefully it’s a sign of good things to come for us this season.
Additionally the club is off to a great start this year. We have had several outings,
and great turn out at monthly meetings. Thank you to everyone that has come out
and joined in on the fun.
I would like to take a minute to say thank you to a few people.
Tammy Gaulke our Social Director has been busy since spring planning the I-cubs
game outing, planning the club trip to Saratoga, WY, ordering club shirts and
putting together the SDSC Christmas Party.
Barry Starmer & Zac Parry have been busy organizing trails. They have done a
tremendous job getting the trails in shape for this year’s season. Barry has been
working very close with the DNR at Big Creek on the bridge maintenance. Zac has
been working with our Groomer operators in hopes of getting all of our operators
certified and all of the required maintenance done.
John Kahler has kept us up to speed with all the ISSA happenings and is also
working on the groomer maintenance. John also does all of our grant work
applications for us.
Rob Rehms handles all the paperwork with our local municipalities and completes
our landowner agreements.
Charles Hamilton has been very busy updating the website & implementing the
PayPal account. Chuck has been working hard on membership drives and the
upcoming Christmas Party.
Klink keeps it all together. He keeps our budget in line, handles all our expenses,
keeps track of dues and has been a great asset this year to the club and board as
he has been a great sound board to us newer board members to show us how
things with the state work as well as provide us with advice.
Kenny Meusburger donates his time with the groomer; Kenny hosted this past
weekend’s groomer maintenance meeting at his place in Maxwell. Kenny has put
countless hours in over the years on the groomer and its maintenance.
Shawn Schulz is the guy that keeps us all posted on news and current events. It’s
Shawn that builds the Flakey every month, Its Shawn that sends out all the email
reminders throughout the year.
SDSC Presidents Report
The Vanderkamp boys put together a great drag race this year. We had a great turn out
of racers & a great turn out of spectators. The drags went off smoothly thanks to their
hard work.
Let’s not forget two very important groups. The volunteers ( That’s You!!!!) that have
helped out this year on the parade float, trails, drags & the groomer, as well as our club
sponsors who support us financially.
I am sure I have left someone out but it’s all these behind the scenes folks that have been
hard at work for months to get us ALL ready for the season. Without these hardworking
people and generous local businesses we would not have the club we have. The next
time you see these people or have a chance to stop into one of our local sponsorships
please remember to say thank you. It’s the VOLUNTEERS that make the club happen.
I personally am thankful for everyone in the club. This is my first year as the club
president & honestly I was not sure what I was getting myself into last spring but I can
honestly say I am enjoying this job and having a lot of fun. I would be lying if I said the
mini’s at the drags wasn’t my favorite thing so far this year. I don’t know who had more
fun that day, the kids racing as fast as they could or their families cheering them on to
victory.
I am looking forward to what this season will bring us. Its November we haven’t gotten a
chance to ride yet, but we have had a taste of snow, several great events with more to
come and tons of great people working hard to make the club great. This is all something
to be thankful for and when that white snow falls, I am sure we will all be like kids on
Christmas morning.
A couple quick reminders, don’t forget to contact Tammy or Chuck and get registered for
the Christmas Party. If you were at last weeks meeting you picked up a ticket for a
$100.00 drawing through Hicklin Power Sports in Grimes. Remember, you have to drop
your ticket off at Hicklin before Nov 30th and then come back to the December meeting
with your stub to find out if you won. If you were not there last month be sure to get out
there this month for another chance at winning. You can’t win if you don’t play!! A
special thank you to Levi at Hicklin Power Sports for this generous gift and club support.
If we missed you at our November meeting be sure to come out to our next meeting on
December 9th at 7:00 pm at the Nite Hawk in Slater, IA.
If you have any questions about our club or want to get involved please feel free to
contact me at 515.707.7237 or via email at [email protected]
Until then, think snow and I will see you on the trails!!!

Trailboss Bob
We had our first snow Nov 10 2014. We had a inch and a half so we were white.
A town in the upper peninsula of Michigan called Ishpeming got 36.1 inches just
the last week. As I write this letter I am a week away from the ISSA convention
in Dubuque and it sounds like it is going to be a good one with a snow show like
the old days. I am leaving Boone on Nov 20 and taking my snowmobiles to a
Polaris dealer in Fairbank iowa to get some work done on them. I am going to
stay in Dyersville Iowa thur night. I will spend the night with a snowmobile
buddy then on Friday I will go on to the convention. Then on sunday on the way
home I will pick up the sleds and take them home with me. I called out to
Wyoming and ordered my trail permits for two of my sleds. The toll free phone
number is(877) 996-7275. The permits are $35.00 per sled. Then they charge
$4.00 for each permit. even if you order more than one permit it is $4.00 for
each one. They will ask you if you want to donate to the search and rescue I give
them $2.00 for each permit. The color of the permits are pea green! The high
bridge trailblazers are going to sell and make pizzas again this year I usually sell
120 pizzas each year. Then you have to make them and deliver all of them , hard
to find some people. When I get the sled home from Fairbank they should all be
ready to go. I have most of the trail permits on them. My Yamaha that I ride on
big trips has Ontario, Quebec, Wisconsin, Michigan ,Wyoming and Iowa. My
trailer is ready to go.

During the Club Meeting this past week there was a discussion on antisnowmobiling companies and groups against motorized vehicles in the
National Parks and other areas. I have not posted the list here, but
there are several discussions online that you can checkout on your
own if you are interested. Some of these affect land use, etc.
