Description
You are cordially invited to attend the 12th Annual The Beat Goes
On Conference on Tuesday, February 24, 2015. With an agenda
developed by UNCH Heart and Vascular Nursing Leadership, this
conference will introduce attendees to technology and therapies
such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and
arrhythmia management. Attendees will explore the psychosocial
aspects of heart transplant and a recent initiative to decrease the
length of stay in patients with ventricular assist devices.
Additionally, we welcome a former patient, his family, and their
UNCMC caretakers to share a case study and their personal
experiences with ECMO, a ventricular assist device, and finally a
heart transplant. Ideally, participants will be able to follow the case
study using prior presentations on each topic and utilize the shared
personal experiences to challenge their everyday assumptions to
providing holistic care.
Objectives
1. Describe the medical management and nursing care/
interventions for patients requiring extracorporeal oxygenation
membrane therapy (ECMO)..
2. Describe how cohesive interdisciplinary care reduces readmission
rates in patients with VADs.
3. Discuss the psychosocial aspects assessed during an extensive
heart transplant evaluation.
4. Discover potential challenges in providing holistic care after
listening to a patients account of their actual hospitalization.
5. Identify dietary guidelines indicated for patients with
cardiovascular disease.
6. Identify the different technologies and indications for their use
in the management of arrhythmias.
