WORKING LUNCH OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AFRICAN FIRST
LADIES AGAINST HIV/AIDS
INVITATION TO THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA
WHAT:
The Organization of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA) in
collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Control and Prevention (CDC) takes
up the issue of Polio, or poliomyelitis, an infectious viral disease affecting
African countries. Polio eradication is an issue facing countries across Africa
with a constant threat of reinfection from migration and travel. On the event,
African Union First Ladies will “call to action” in a continent-wide effort of
leadership and political commitment to Africa’s polio free future for women
and children.

BACKGOUND:
Organization of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA) was established by African
First Ladies as a collective voice for Africa’s most vulnerable people, women and children
infected and affected by HIV and AIDS. Today, OAFLA has more than forty (40) African
First Ladies as its active members, each leading her national chapter to do exemplary work
in the areas of HIV/AIDS, empowering women and children.
