Vocations Let us pray for women and men who are suffering in the aftermath of an abortion, that they may find healing, consolation and strength through the sacraments and prayer. “Let each of you lead the life that the Lord has assigned, to which God has called you.” If you are considering a vocation to the consecrated life or priesthood, call Father J. D. Jaffe 703-841-2514 or write [email protected] 1 PASTOR’S PIECE “You will look for me but not find (me), and where I am you cannot come.” (Jn 7:34) These may be appropriate words for the next couple of weeks. It’s my yearly get-away before Lent. I won’t be going to Mardi Gras; beads are for praying not throwing. I’m headed to the mountains to look for snow. Hopefully, it won’t be in my backyard in Virginia but on the slopes. If you need a priest, please call a neighboring parish. My brother priests will be glad to help, except the pastor of St. John’s in Leesburg (he’ll be with me). Our offices will be open as normal and our parochial staff is at your service. For those at St. Stephen’s there is no need to break any good habits of devotion to the Eucharist. Thankfully, Deacon Jack will be sharing his ministry and daily leading the parish in a Communion Service. In the mean time, for the next two Sundays, bring out your palms! I hope to collect our dried up palms from last Palm Sunday (or even before). The palms that we have adorning a crucifix, a holy image or maybe they are part of those sundries that never really found a special place. Regardless, bring them to church and deposit them in the specially marked basket. We’ll burn them after St. Stephen’s 10:45am Mass, Sunday, February 15, and prepare them to be our Ash Wednesday ashes. Join us for the ceremony. Christ’s Peace, Fr. Murphy Men’s Conference, March 7 Masses at St. Stephen the Martyr and St. Katharine Drexel can be offered for living and deceased loved ones. Please call the parish office to schedule. Larry Richards and author Neal Lozano exploring the presence of sin and evil in our lives and how to overcome them. Breakfast, lunch and Mass with Bishop Loverde are included. Registration begins January 1. Please note the new conference location: Foxchase Manor in Manassas.
