On February 10, the nominations for Exalted Ruler, Esteemed Leading, Loyal and Lecturing Knights, Lodge Secretary, Lodge Treasurer, Lodge Tiler and five year Trustee will be accepted during our Lodge meeting. February 24 additional nominations may be accepted and the elections will be held. The elections and initiation that evening will be conducted by our PERs. This is your Lodge, be active in it, be involved in it, and be positive about it. Bring any new ideas to the attention of your officers. Make things happen for your Lodge. Your voice needs to be heard, your actions need to be seen, and your desire to help move our Lodge forward needs to be shown. I would like to thank all of you for your support this past year. Together we have made a difference. It takes the efforts of our entire membership to make positive changes. We have added many new members this year; let’s keep them interested and active. We have also made huge strides to bring back our stray members. Lets finish this Elk year on a positive note; contact an Elk who may not be active or bring in another new member. Our strength is in our numbers. Our goal, as Elks, is to help our community, to assist those in need, and to have fun while we do it. We need to have a positive and lasting impression with those in our community. They need to know what and who Elks are and what we stand for. Pass the word. ELKDOM, A 150 YEAR LEGACY, ARE YOU DOING YOUR PART? Tim Murray TRUSTEES MESSAGE We have the ATM now in the Club Room; so please everyone use it instead of going to the bar and asking for cash back on your card. We have a new game in the Club Room - a fun game. The Trustees have a lot of unfinished business as of now, so all I can say is it is current and ongoing. Thank you to everyone for all the help on all the projects that were going on over the holidays. Lance Wright Trustee Chair Nominations of officers for 2015-2016 will be held at the general meeting on February 10. Elections will be held at the general meeting on February 24. MAH JONGG Play or learn a fun game of strategy and skill. Join us every Thursday at 1 pm. For additional information, call Donnette at 574-3267. NEWS FROM THE HOUSE COMMITTEE The House Committee would like to thank all the volunteer members, guests, and employees who made this year and the holiday season a success. The Club Room and Dining Room both are doing well. The New Year’s Eve party and New Year’s Day in the Club Room had good turnouts. Your participation is what makes a difference and creates a good Lodge. During the year, the House Committee has attempted to give the members a little something by limiting cover charges on Friday nights and removing additional drink charges during entertainment. The Lodge has also made significant improvements to the facilities by adding new shades, carpeting, and reworking the decks. Below are a couple of reminders of things that need to be followed. The Elks Statutes and Dixie Elks House Committee Rules require that a guest must sign in the guest book along with the sponsoring member. Members are responsible for the guest while visiting the Lodge. When the sponsoring member leaves, the guest must also leave. It is the responsibility of all Elks to insure that guests and visiting Elks are signed in the guest book. Guest books are located at the front entry and by the door of the Club Room (bar area). If you don’t find a guest book, see the Club Room bartender. Access to the Lodge is through the front entry. Other entries are intended for on-duty workers and emergencies. The entry doors are to be kept closed unless attended by an entry control person. There is a key card access for members just to the right of the entry door. If not a member or a visiting Elk, a buzzer is located next to the door. Lodge members should have their membership cards with them while at the Lodge. Members, guests and visiting Elks are required to have government issued identification showing proof of age when in the Club Room or having an alcoholic beverage. Minors are not allowed in the Club Room. The House Committee and employees thank you for your support. The Girl Scouts of Utah are very proud and happy to have found a sponsorship in Elk Lodge 1743. Until this time there have been no service clubs, businesses or churches that have sponsored Girl Scout Troops in St. George area. The Elks have shown themselves to be leaders. Girl Scouts of the USA is the largest organization for girls in the world and was charted by United States Congress in 1950. Girl Scouts empowers girls and helps teach values such as honesty, fairness, courage, compassion, character, sisterhood, confidence, and citizenship through activities including camping, community service, learning first aid, and earning badges by acquiring practical skills. The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Girls experience activities in science and technology, business economic literacy, outdoor and environment awareness, fun and friendships while at the same time foster development of leadership skills and self-esteem On Thursdays between 5 and 7:30 pm you may see them in their uniforms at the Elks Lodge. They will be girls from Troop 717 and Troop 71. Ask them for a Girl Scout Handshake. If you know of any girls interested in Girl Scouting, please contact: Mary Weissman 435-656-0769.
