Her focus is on learning effectively in the home and in the classroom. Collaborative Advocacy at Many Levels: A Blueprint of Change Working together, school employees, parents and students can effectively develop a balanced Research Based Coalition for Literacy in a community with a way to help struggling readers. Lyon has designed a state wide initiative to bring together parents and leaders from the education legislative, business, and medical community and the U.S. Department of Education. Research and evaluation at higher education levels provide support to collect data. Analysis of that data ensured program effectiveness. The Federal Funded Study included response to reading intervention and use of technology within classrooms of hundreds of at-risk students. Diane will add pieces of her personal story including her own experiences with dyslexia, which provides a different level of attention and urgency, and what she has learned from raising her son who lives with dyslexia. She will share her son’s story of how he successfully supported himself through 4 years of college, completed Law School, and passed the Bar Exam in 2010. 2:30pm-3:00pm Panel Discussion: Designing the Future Join us as we celebrate Designing the Future with a diverse panel of guests within the dyslexia community who have each found personal achievement. 3:15pm-4:30pm Gayle McNurlen, Ph.D., OTR Assistive Technology Consultant, Region 10 Education Service Center, Richardson TX Gayle is an occupational therapist by background.
