THE CONFERENCE
Vancouver Island and its nearby neighbours
have unique emergency preparedness needs
because we are island communities. We live
in a seismically active region, face oceanbased threats of tsunamis and tanker spills,
experience severe and sudden floods, and
have communities in heavily forested and
fire-sensitive areas. With our unique
isolation, there is a need to build teamwork
among island communities and to share our
success stories.
This is the ninth conference to bring together
island emergency preparedness volunteers
and staff, giving them an opportunity to meet
each other, establish mutual help networks,
and hear from some experts in the emergency
preparedness field.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Registration priority will be given to active
volunteers and professional staff from Powell
River, Vancouver Island, and neighbouring
islands working in:
• Search and Rescue (Land/Air/Water)
• Amateur Radio
• Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness
Coordinators
• Emergency Social Services
• Emergency Preparedness Personnel; and
• Related Community Work
Space is limited. Reserve Now!
This conference will bring 350 dedicated
volunteers together. Participants will learn new
skills and gain knowledge from experts, share
experiences and information, build bridges
between Island communities as well as the
various groups of volunteers with a renewed
commitment to helping in their communities.
