Career Services 403-220-3700 [email protected] Employer Career Fair Tip Sheet 1. Ensure that any email communication about the career fair is being forwarded to the attending individual. We find that small, but important details, can easily fall through the cracks! Ensure that any email communication about your participation in an upcoming career fair is relayed to the attending individual(s). Email [email protected] if your contact information should be switched for someone else’s. 2. Review the confirmation package right away. We want to keep you well-informed, so we sent all the details directly to your inbox! If you haven’t already, be sure to thoroughly review the information enclosed in our confirmation package. To be sure you’re ahead of the game, keep your eye open for any deadlines, shipping information and catering info. You can also find the confirmation package here, listed under the career fair you’ve registered for. 3. Make the fair a part of your larger recruitment strategy. The best way to draw students to your booth is brand recognition. To get the most out of your presence at the upcoming career fair and fairs in the future, consider participating in additional events on campus throughout the academic year. We offer plenty of campus recruitment opportunities for employers, as well as a number of forums to connect with students & raise your corporate profile! Find more information on our upcoming events and opportunities here and be sure to promote your involvement when you are meeting students at the fair! 4. Consider creating a ‘handbill’ for your upcoming information session (or other events) on campus. Students love invitations that come directly from employers. If you’ve got another campus appearance coming up, be sure to advertise to students at the career fair! Giving them a small printed handbill ensures they won’t forget the time or date. Tip: Contact Andy at [email protected] to find out if you should include a student registration link or not for your information session or other event! 5. Create a QR code for your job posting. We all carry our smartphones around with us everywhere we go… why not use this to your advantage? Creating a QR code for your job posting enables students to pull it up on the spot. Plus, you’d be helping us contribute to a sustainable campus! We’re into saving trees. 6. Engage U of C students on social media before you come to campus. Career Services utilizes our social media channels as the chief advertising tool. It’s the most engaging, cost effective and easiest way to reach students. Facebook mention, Instagram tag and especially Tweet at student clubs, faculties and high social media ranking individuals on campus. 2 7. Participate in our Live Twitter/Instagram Feed at the fair. Use designated hashtag indicated on our Twitter and other social media channels at the fair to see content displayed to everyone live on our social media wall. This is a very easy way to get engagement from students and takes minimal effort for great visual kick-back. 8. Check out our campus map before you come. We know that campus can be confusing (who designs these things, anyway?). Check out our interactive room finder to ensure you know where to go on the day of your event, or feel free to contact us at 403-220-8020 in advance for more detailed directions! 9. Dress appropriately for the weather. I know, I know. This is something you’d expect from your mother… not us! We respect that, but we always hate seeing shivering employers unloading their cars on a cold winter day. We just want you to be happy (and comfortable)! We’ll have volunteers there to assist you, but please plan ahead and prepare for our notoriously shifty Calgary weather! 10. Make sure your signage is bright & colorful. Bring SWAG & visual aids! Bright lights, noise, interaction! Be fun! Just about every exhibitor will have pens to give away, so when thinking of swag to bring to a Career Fair, try to think about what fun items will set you apart from other booths. Even if the students take your free stuff and leave, if the promotional giveaway item is awesome they’ll think of you every time they look at your logo on the side of it. 11. Consider bringing a wifi hotspot. If you’ve got one, a hotspot is handy to have at a career fair. We do offer wifi to employers, and will ensure you’ve got the login information at your fingertips when you arrive. However, some fairs will accommodate upwards of 1500 people at any given time, all using the same wifi- which may cause your connection to be slow or spotty. 12. Bring a water bottle and a snack. At most fairs, we offer catering (check your confirmation package to find out). However, you may find yourself wanting to stick around your booth if the traffic is good! No one wants to be hungry, so make sure to pack a healthy snack. We also provide water for employers, so a re-fillable water bottle will ensure you stay hydrated while you introduce yourself five thousand times. 13. Location, Location, Location. The best booths get booked early, so reach out to one of our Employer Relations Specialists as soon as possible to secure some prime real estate at the career fair. The most accessible spots are 3 reserved for our sponsors- Consider a sponsorship package today! Regular registrants are placed in order of registration date. 14. Electrify your booth. Do you need electrical? For regular registration spots, be sure you’ve included a request for electrical in your CareerLink registration. If you haven’t already, you can log into your account and adjust your career fair registration to include access to power for a $35 fee. Note: Electrical is available at no cost to sponsors. Please ensure you’ve indicated on your registration if you’d like this included at your booth!
