O NLINE C ATHOLIC R ESOURCES Prince of Peace Catholic Church: www.popcc.org Diocese of St. Petersburg: www.dosp.org Florida Catholic Conference: www.flaccb.org PRINCE OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH 4 FEBRUARY 1, 2015 Letter From The Pastor Dear Parishioners, I am speaking at all church Masses this weekend about the 2015 Diocese of St. Petersburg Annual Pastoral Appeal, themed, “My Good and Faithful Servant.” Thank you to the 847 families who participated in the 2014 appeal. In 2014 our assessment was $200,192 and we collected $215,271.60. The difference has been applied to our diocesan school assessment. Prayer and sacrificial giving have blessed our parish with success! For 2015, the diocese has increased its total assessment 1.3% ($11,500,000 to $11,650,000). In turn, our parish assessment has increased 6% to $211,625. Currently, there are 1,461 registered families in the parish. One of the goals this year is to surpass last year’s participation rate of 58%. What can we do to motivate all our parishioners to participate in some fashion? The 2015 APA prayer found on the front page of the bulletin will be offered as the conclusion of the Prayer of the Faithful at Masses this weekend. Please continue to offer this prayer over the next several weeks. May the Lord bless your discernment and sacrificial offering to the 2015 Annual Pastoral Appeal. Thank you for being a good and faithful servant. Monday, February 2 is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, the unofficial conclusion of the Christmas season and Candlemass Day. Please bring candles from home to the 8:00 a.m. Mass on the day to be blessed for use throughout the year. Tuesday, February 3 is the Memorial of St. Blaise. The blessing of throats will take place as the conclusion of the 8:00 a.m. Mass. It is also Father Augustine’s 40th anniversary of Priesthood. We offer our prayerful, best wishes to Father as he celebrates this milestone of ministry. After all Masses next weekend, you are invited to the Conesa Center for receptions to offer your personal best wishes to Father. Also, everyone is invited to join Father on Thursday, February 12 at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of Thanksgiving. These are busy days filled with opportunities to express our faith in love, service and gratitude. May the Lord strengthen us in our work. God’s blessings to you - Father Kovanis Father Sebastian Our visiting priest, Father Sebastian has returned to Germany. We are grateful for his priestly ministry, help and dedication to Prince of Peace. We are looking forward to welcoming him in the near future.
