Section 3: Supplemental (Non-Vacancy Specific) Recruitment Activities Undertaken
Alpha Media LLC, licensee of the above-referenced stations, has and will continue to
be an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer. As required by Section 73.2080 of
the Commission’s Rules, the stations have participated in several different
recruitment activities to ensure broad outreach, including the following:
1. Biloxi School District Career Exploration Day-student shadow. On March 6th,
2014 we had a student, “Guillermo”, shadow Patty Steele of WXYK/1071
The Monkey. Guillermo passed his MCT with high percentage and the next step
for his career exploration was to choose a field he might want to work in. The DJ
let him stay in the control room while she was on air and producing commercials
and showed him how her position interacted with the rest of the group. She
spoke about her personal job history and how she became interested and
employed in the broadcast industry. The request for station involvement from
Mary Muniz.
2. Tulane University Career Fair. On March 13th, 2013 two of our on air
personalities visited the Health Media Class career fair and spoke the specifics of
crafting a PSA and how the broadcast industry strives to keep people informed.
They also talked about their personal job history and how they became interested
and employed in the broadcast industry. One subject was about the history of
radio in America and the impacts on Americans today. We were invited to speak
by Mark Manevel.
3. Governor’s Job Fair Network. Alpha Media LLC co-sponsored the April 8th
2014 Job Fair at the Biloxi Civic Center. Our Local Sales Manager is on the
planning committee and helped execute this Career Fair. Including, but not
limited to, organizing, setup, layout and flow of traffic, basic set up of venue,
advertising, etc. The LSM attended the day-long event and manned the booth.
Several resumes and applications were taken.
4. Management Hiring Training. General Manager attended online course in July
2014 on how to hire and retain good people. Covered disseminating recruitment
ads for best possible candidate draw, ensuring equal opportunity employment
and preventing discrimination. The 30 minute course was given online by the
Leadership Academy.
5. Nativity Cub Scouts Pack 213 facility tour. Sarah Burke of the Boy Scouts of
America brought in cub scouts pack 213 (approximately 9 students) to tour the
radio stations on August 21st 2014. As they toured the building they stopped at
different departments and an employee would tell them the details of working in
that department of the radio station and encourage them to pursue a broadcast
career and the importance of remaining in school.
No organizations have requested notification of all job openings. Thus, all of the sources
listed above were selected by the Employment Unit. Seven times monthly, each station
broadcasts announcements identifying the stations as an Equal Employment Opportunity
Employers, encouraging minorities and women to apply. The announcements also give
notice to organizations that they may be added to a distribution list to be contacted by the
stations for all full-time vacancies. The stations Human Resource Department is listed as
the contact with stations physical address.
