Nobles the only place we can find potential Shriners is at Blue Lodge. POTENTATE “2015” RICHARD QUINDLEY Some Thoughts From the Potentate First of all, Lady Connie and I would like to thank everyone that attended my installation on January 17th. For me it was a truly humbling experience. When I looked out at all of you there after being Fezed, I was at a loss for words. A special thanks goes out to everyone who helped make the weekend so memorable, and especially to Ed and Ellie for chairing the weekend, the past Potentates for their assistance and guidance and the famous Bektash Stewards for their hospitality. Now that the installation is over it's time to go to work. One of my top priorities this year is membership. If we do not stop this downward spiral we are in, by 2025 we will be down to 150 members. And our shrine as we know it will not exist. In that light, the Divan and myself are going to be very active in getting new members and keeping our current ones active. We will be dedicating time at each finance meeting to membership. We would also welcome any ideas from the nobility. If you have some please either attend the Finally I would like to urge you all to attend as many functions as you can. Bring your friends so they can see some of the things we do. Go out and join a club or unit, or become more involved in the ones you are in. Remember that as a team we can keep our organization strong, as this past weekend proved. When I was raised as Master of the Lodge the installing officer put a cable tow on the floor and said, "This cable tow is your lodge, if you want it to move you have to pull and guide it, not push it." Just Thinking Dick Quindley, Potentate 2015 Proud To Be a Shrine Mason THE BEKTASH NEWS WANTS YOUR PHOTOS FROM RECENT SHRINE EVENTS Let your fellow Shriners know what your Unit or Club is doing. Shriners Hospitals for Children is a network of hospitals dedicated to providing one-of-a-kind specialty pediatric care, innova ve research and understanding teaching programs. In April 1973 the Board of Directors of the Interna onal Council officially recognized the Interna onal Associa on of Shrine Yacht Clubs "IASYC". The IASYC body represents among its affiliated Shrine Temple Yacht Clubs the ambassadors of good will among the boa ng fraternity. Bektash Mariners Shrine Yacht Club was founded in March 2012, and Joined the IASYC in May that same year. BMSYC is an inner body providing good fellowship among members of Bektash Shrine who share an interest in boats, boa ng and kindred pleasuressuch as skiing, fishing and cruising. Since its incep on the club has lived up to its Masonic principals and has grown in membership each year. During 2014, all summer mee ngs have been well a ended and held at waterfront loca ons. Boat cruises have taken place as well. All Nobles interested in joining this res ul and adventurous BMSYC should get in touch with Commodore Noble Ray Desrochers at (603) 934-5198 or (603) 387-5791. 12 The Bektash News RECORDER’S CORNER Congratula ons to Ill. Richard A. Quindley for being installed as Potentate and to the rest of the elected and appointed Divan of Bektash Shriner at the Installa on Ceremonial in Nashua, NH on January 17, 2015. It was a great weekend filled with fun for all in a endance. Let’s all strive to make this a banner year for all of our Officers, Nobility and their Ladies Thank you all for elec ng me as your Recorder for the year 2015. I will try my hardest to perform the du es of this office to the best of my ability and to the standards set by my predecessors’. Please join me in thanking Joel Weinstein for the excellent job he has done as Recorder of Bektash Shriners for the last five years. His ability to organize and implement procedures, that we will con nue to use in the days and years ahead, are exemplary. Joel, from all of us, thank you for a job, “Well Done”. Next up will be our Valen nes Dinner-Dance Party on February 14, 2015 here at the Mosque. The Commi ee hopes to see a large turnout for this event. Please plan to a end and join us for good food and a fun evening of dancing and mee ng old friends. Pro-Temp Staffing, LLC 316 S. Main Street Concord, NH 03302 Phone: 603-228-6535 or 1-800-261-TEMP(8367) E-mail:[email protected] February 2015 13 Our number priority as Shriners has to be membership. At this past weekend Installa on, the Black Camel took away 27 of our members. Later we installed 5 new Shriners into Bektash. That is not a good ra o. We are grateful for our new Shriners, but by days end our membership had been reduced by 22 Nobles. We all need to work on this problem. The message is the same for Bektash Nobles. It is membership, membership and membership. One sugges on is to visit your Blue Lodge as o en as you can and try to help them out with their membership. They need the help as much as we do. Each one of us knows a good man that is not a Mason. To cure this problem, the brothers of your Lodge will have ideas for you as to how to get your non Masonic friend interested in the order. The bo om line is we have to find a way to stop the memberships decline. If we don’t, in a few years, we will be reduced to empty buildings. Please ask yourself, “what have I done for membership lately?” Yours in the faith, Guild “Bushie” Hill Recorder ALAN’S OF BOSCAWEN 133 N MAIN ST BOSCAWEN NH 03303 603.753.6631 Any event booked by the Shriners will receive a 10% discount. Sell Bektash 2015 Cash Calendars We hope you all purchase or get involved on becoming part of the 2015 Cash Calendars Raffle. A repeat of our successful past events will be made for 2015. A copy of our ad is on the adjacent page. Take a look, it’s great! We will have a total of 2500 to sell as we did in 2014. This is a major fund raiser for Bektash. It is in the same league as Bingo and the “Fez”tival of Trees. It is and has been the major fund raiser for several of our sister Shrine Centers. Here’s how you can easily become part of this exciting fund raiser! No upfront investment or upfront cash required. We supply the calendars on consignment to your Unit, Club or a Noble, your choice. Your Unit, Club or Bektash Charity can earn a commission of $2.00 for each calendar sold. The $2.00 commission will be paid in July 2016. As a bonus, when all 2500 calendars are sold the commission will be increased to $3.00 for each calendar sold by the Unit, Club or Noble. The $3.00 commission will be paid in 2016 to the Unit, Club or Bektash Charity of your choice, once we sell all 2500 calendars. 1900 were sold 0n 2013. Help us sell all 2500 for 2015. We can do it! If the Noble does not belong to a Unit or Club, the Noble, his family and friends can sell the Calendars with the commission paid to a Bektash Charity of their choice. We will have these beautiful full color calendars in July. Based on what we have experienced for in the last two years we feel that the calendars will sell out quickly. So, get yours in July and help Bektash sell all 2500. Contact the Bektash Office at 603-225-5372 so that we can get you started. Thanks. Joel Weinstein Recorder 2015 will be here before we know it. Maybe you'll want to do it again and join our unit, but even if you don't you'll have a day to remember! And we'll even take a photo of you with the unit. The money to provide these needed services at 22 hospitals comes from many sources: community donations; fundraising events; investment income; and support from the Shriners International. As health care costs increase, Shriners Hospitals needs your help, more than ever, to continue to provide more specialized care, offer medical education and conduct more research. Too many people believe that if they cannot donate or leave a large sum or money, their gift will not count. Every contribution helps. In order to encourage donors to contribute to Shriners Hospitals for Children, the HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAR CLUB was established in 1972. The club is named for its goal of adding 100 million dollars to the endowment fund through gifts or bequests of $100 or more. HOWTOJOIN There are three ways to become a member of the 100 Million Dollar Club: (1) By contributing $100 or more to Shriners Hospitals for Children; (2) By having your will include a bequest of $100 or more to Shriners Hospitals for Children; or (3) By adding a provision to an existing will leaving $100 or more to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Shriners. Please fill out the form on the right and send your contribution to Bektash Shriner's Recorder Joel Weinstein. WHATYOURECEIVE Each donor receives a handsome 100 Million Dollar Club certificate.
