Lavoie et Fils began in 1953, in the hamlet
of St-Isidore in northern Alberta and was
originally established by Philippe and Emma
Lavoie and their 9 sons, after having arrived
from Quebec. Lavoie et Fils existed as a
combination dairy and grain operation.
Looking back in 2014
In 1994, a decision was made to expand
and construct a new dairy facility at a new
location. By November 1995, construction
was complete to house up to 500 milking
cows. As of January 1999, the business
was separated into three groups, one of
which is the dairy operation known as
Enterprise Lavoie 1999.
In March we had a family bowling night.
Our year started off with a very windy AGM
meeting; wind gusts as high as 90km/h.
Despite the wind we still had a good turn
out. Dale and Ashley Van Sickle gave us a
presentation on Genetic Mating Systems.
Promoting the dairy industry was done
through the Barrhead Street Festival and
giving people a tour to Otten Dairy. This
gave about 275 people the chance to see
first hand where their milk comes from.
July we hosted the Annual Summer Picnic.
The afternoon the kids (and adults); had fun
with the horizontal bungee, mechanical bull,
bouncy house, and many more activities.
The evening kicked off with a great supper
followed by entertainment with Lisa HewittThe Little 'Ole Opry.
The CRHC along with Martin Deerline
sponsored the Arie Moes Memorial
Scholarship. This year it was presented to
Holly Charles.
We had a great year that was supported by
many sponsors and our fellow dairy
producers. We look forward to what 2015
will bring us.
