January Scholarships and Announcements - 2015 Valley Center High School- will host a Financial Aide informational meeting about the FAFSA forms for all students and their parents on January 15, from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. in the Library. Don’t miss this very important meeting. College Goal Sunday will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015. More information will be presented next month. Wichita State University – New at WSU is the Honors College Koch Scholars Program for incoming freshmen Honors College students majoring in Business or Engineering. Students must apply by February 1, 2015. High school seniors with a 3.7 GPA or a 27 composite ACT are eligible for the Honors College and the Koch Scholar Program. Up to ten scholarships will be awarded for the fall 2015. Honors College scholarship are renewable for up to three additional years of study toward a degree in Engineering or Business, with preference given to those students declaring a major in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Accounting, Economics, Finance, human Resources, or Management Information Systems. Koch Scholars agree to participate in program activities and workshop coordinated by the Honors College. Awards are up to $7,500 each year for in-state tuition. Wichita State – Recently, WSU received approval to implement an amendment to their admission policy for the 2-15-16 school year. The policy change grants students who meet the 2013-14 Qualified Admissions standards automatic consideration for admission to the university. Students must have a composite ACT score of 21 or higher, rank in the top 1/3 of their graduating class after seven or eight semesters or complete the current pre-college curriculum with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Fall 2015 scholarships are still available for graduating senior in May 2015. Wichita State – is planning their 13th Annual Student Ambassador Society Leadership Conference. All high school students are invited to WSU for a day of inspiration and leadership on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. The conference will begin in the morning and last until mid-afternoon, with lunch provided. Students will hear from experienced leaders, learn leadership skills they can use throughout life and interact with other driven and encouraging students. Registration open in January and is $15 per student. Interested students should visit www.wichita.edu/saslead for additional information. Kansas State University – K-State has partnered with the Kansas Hispanic Education and Development Foundation of Wichita, KS to match scholarship amounts for a KHEDF scholarship recipients who attend K-State. The application deadline for the KHEDF scholarship is February 1, 2015, and high school seniors from the Wichita metro area are eligible to apply. Interested Hispanic students can download the application at www.khedf.org/application-form/ Pittsburg State University – Minimum requirements for the Honors College at Pittsburg State University are a 3.5 GPA and a 28 ACT composite. Interested students can download an application at www.pittstate.edu/admin/vpaa/honorscollege.html. The application deadline is February 1, 2015. The Wichita Alumnae Panhellenic Scholarship – is designed to encourage young women to consider sorority membership as part of their collegiate experience. Ideal candidates for the scholarship are women who exemplify scholarship, leadership, service and involvement. In addition, an ideal candidate is a woman who is interested in pursuing sorority membership at the college of her choice. Applications are available in the guidance office and must be postmarked by Friday, January 30, 2015. Kansas Board of Regents Scholarships – Students who want to apply for any of the following scholarships: The Kansas Ethnic Minority Scholarship, Kansas Nursing Service Scholarship, Kansas State Scholarship, or the Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship should apply on line at www.kansasregents.org. A completed application requires: 1) The FAFSA completed and submitted online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or by mail, 2) Detaching, completing, and mailing the application form (s) in the brochure or applying online at www.kansasregents.org, 3) your signature and a $12.00 processing fee are required to complete the application. (Make check/money order payable to KBOR.) 4) Submitting additional required materials. Common eligibility criteria requires the recipient to be a Kansas resident, enroll in a qualified program, enroll at a Kansas College or university and not already by awarded an undergraduate degree, unless you are applying for the Nursing or Teaching Service Scholarship. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all application materials before May 1, 2015, as there is limited funding available in many of the student aid programs. The online application for the 2015-16 year will be available in early January 2015. Fort Hays State University – final deadline date for scholarship applications is February 15, 2015. Applications must be submitted online at www.fhsu.edu/finaid. Fort Hays State University – Leadership Studies Program. FHSU has developed a reputation as one of the premier collegiate academic leadership programs, with their program being one of only 20 of its kind in the country. Scholarships are available for first-time freshmen who want to study leadership. Students can apply on-line at www.fhsu.edu/finaid. University of Kansas – the Hixson Opportunity Award is specifically designed for students who have faced significant challenges that may hinder their ability to attend college, and thus, the award amounts are significant. Each recipient will have the opportunity to receive up to $20, 000 for educational expenses ($5,000 per year for up to four years). This award is to ten entering freshmen attending KU who are residents of the state of Kansas. The application and additional information about the scholarship program are available on line at www.scholarships.ku.edu/hixson.shtml. Deadline date is February 1, 2015. Barton Community College Sports medicine Department is recruiting students interested in joining their student athletic training staff while pursuing their educational interest. DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Organization sponsored by Little Arkansas Chapter in Valley Center has listed a variety of scholarships which are posted on the guidance bulletin board. Why not check it out? McConnell Officers’ Spouses’ Charitable Association (MOSCA) – Offers scholarships to United States Air Force dependents for high school seniors. Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Qualifying students can download the application at www.mcconnellosc.org Completed packet must be postmarked by March 2, 2015. All information can be found on the application. KACRAO (Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers) award four scholarships worth $250. Students applying must have a 3.25 GPA or higher based on seven cumulative semesters. Students must also plan to attend one of the KACRAO member schools. USA Funds will award $1500 scholarships to students with economic need, are member of an ethnic minority group or are physically disabled. They will accept application online at www.usafunds.org/scholarship. ESA Foundation Board of Directors offers more than 160 scholarships a year for deserving students. Information about the scholarships, requirements, and applications is available on their website at www.epsilonsigmaalpha.org/esaf Click on Scholarship Application on the left sidebar. Click on ESA Foundation Scholarship Application and Guidelines to print the application. Go back to items under ESA Foundation Scholarship and click on current list of ESAF Scholarship available by State. Click on Kansas to learn which scholarships are applicable for state residents. Print the list. Each scholarship will need a full set of documents and fees. Deadline date is February 1, 2015. Westar Energy Craft Scholarship Program – has several scholarships available for high school seniors. They include General Line Worker Scholarship, Power Plant Operator Scholarship and Line Worker Scholarship. Information concerning these scholarships are posted on the counseling bulletin board in the commons. Deadline date is March 16, 2015. Applications are available online at WestarEnergy.com: click on “Scholarship Opportunities” under the Community Programs tab located at the bottom of the home page. Oklahoma State University –Eligibility criteria for the Honors College is ACT of 27 or higher with a GPA of 3.75 or higher. New freshman Honors College applications must be postmarked or submitted electronically by February 1, 2015. Johnson County Community College - offers The Sunflower Grant Scholarship ($850 for each semester) for JCCC students who meet four requirements and complete the admission and financial aid process. The four requirements are: 1) Be a first generation college student (parents/guardians have not graduated from an institution of higher education). 2) Demonstrate financial need (based on information provided on the FAFSA). 3) Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident. 4) Be entering college for the first time.
