* While stocks last
52 keen Greensborough RSL
veterans and members boarded
the bus and headed to Canberra
for a weekend of discovery at
the Canberra War Memorial
.
The weather was fine and sunny
and allowed for exploring the
outside of the memorial in quiet
reflection or simply enjoying a
coffee and taking in the view of
Anzac Parade. For some it was
their first visit to our nation's
capital and they were not
disappointed. The interactive
areas within the memorial were
popular, tears were shed when
relatives names were found on
the Roll of Honour. Hours were spent wandering through dedicated areas for the Second World War, Korean War, Vietnam
War and the more recent Gulf War. The Hall of Valour and Aircraft Hall
were popular locations with some returning two or three times to revisit
something they missed the first time. The Kokoda Trail and Vietnam
displays were quite realistic and no doubt stirred memories of time
served.
Members of our committee placed a wreath on behalf of the
Greensborough RSL at the Last Post ceremony in memory of the fallen
.
McDonald's at Albury was the chosen choice for a quick snack on the
return journey and the staff behind the counter nearly passed out when
our group walked in! A photo board is on display in the Members Bar so
if you have any photos to contribute, please pin them to the board for all
to check out.
The Committee look forward to another Big Day out in the not too
distant future, so look for information in the newsletter or notice boards
throughout the club.
Thank you for your support

B Grade / Greensborough Blue Hogs
Last SUMMER season unfortunately there was not
much to write about. After several seasons
struggling to be competitive in “A” Grade despite
a handful of reasonable efforts we fell away in the
latter part of the season and finished second
bottom on the ladder. Due to B Grade Finals result
two teams were promoted to “A” Grade and
therefore “Hogs” were relegated to “B“ Grade.
We have been very competitive in “B” Grade and
finished the season strongly to end up exactly
equal for First and Second on the ladder with
Monty Socs who defeated us twice and look likely
to have a play-off for top position to determine
which team is automatically promoted to “A”
Grade.
If the Premier team is different then two teams go
up and two teams instead of one are relegated from
“A” Grade (as was the case with “Hogs” in the last
Summer season)
FINALS are on!... and we can WIN IT!
Hopefully the next report I can say we were
Premiers
Special thanks to Alan Briggs who was a founder
of the team @ Heidelberg RSL who after decades
as a player has retired but is continuing as
Non-playing Captain. Thanks Al…Go HOGS!
