The Lord’s Day
February 1, 2015
Reflection
That is what mortals misunderstand. They say of temporal suffering, ‘no future bliss can
make up for it,’ not knowing that Heaven, once attained, will work backwards and turn even
that agony into a glory.”
— C.S. Lewis, The Great Divorce
— Isaiah 40:28-31
Call to Worship
Worship Leader: Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
All: He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
Worship Leader: He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even
youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
All: but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on
wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Hymn of Praise #8
“Praise to the Lord, the Almighty”
Neander
Invocation (followed by the Lord’s Prayer)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we
forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is
the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Call to Confession
— from Isaiah 57:15
For thus says the high and lofty one
who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in
the high and holy place,
and also with those who are contrite and humble in spirit, to revive
the spirit of the humble,
and to revive the heart of the contrite.
Prayer of Confession
All: Merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and
deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved
you
with our whole heart and mind and strength.
We have not loved our neighbors
as ourselves.
In your mercy forgive what we have been,
help us amend what we are,
and direct what we shall be,
so that we may delight in your will and walk in your
ways, to the glory of your holy name.
Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Silent Confession
Words of Encouragement
— from Titus 3:4-5
When the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us: not because of
righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.
Songs of Renewal
CCLI License #902705
Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above;
Praise His name - I'm fixed upon it - Name of God's redeeming love.
Hither to Thy love has blest me; Thou hast bro't me to this place;
And I know Thy hand will bring me safely home by Thy good grace.
Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger, bought me with His precious blood.
O to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee:
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love;
Here's my heart, O take and seal it; seal it for Thy courts above.
Oh that day when freed from sinning, I shall see Thy lovely face;
Full arrayed in blood-washed linen, how I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace.
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry; bring Thy promises to pass.
For I know Thy pow’r will keep me, till I’m home with Thee at last.

(Chorus 1)
I believe in God our Father, I believe in Christ the Son
I believe in the Holy Spirit, Our God is three in One

For I believe in the Name of Jesus
Our judge and our defender, Suffered and crucified
Forgiveness is in You,
Descended into darkness, You rose in glorious life
Forever seated high

I believe in You
I believe You rose again
I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord
Chorus 1
(Chorus 2)
I believe in life eternal, I believe in the virgin birth
I believe in the saints’ communion, And in Your holy church
I believe in the resurrection, When Jesus comes again
For I believe in the Name of Jesus

Presentation of Tithes and Offerings
Doxology
Let all things their creator bless, and worship him with humbleness!
O praise him, Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, and praise the Spirit, Three in One,
O praise him! O praise him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Amen.
Confession of Faith
From the Heidelberg Catechism
Worship Leader: What is your only comfort in life and in death?
All: That I am not my own, but belong – body and soul, in life and in death – to my
faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious
blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in
such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in
heaven. In fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to
Him, Christ, by His Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me
wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for Him.
Worship Leader: What must you know to live and die in the joy of this comfort?
All: Three things: first, the greatness of my sin and misery; second, how I am set free
from all my sins and misery; and third, how I am to thank God for such a deliverance.

Sermon
“Accepting the Kingdom”
Rev. Grant Carroll
Mark 4:1-34
Meditation & Prayer
The Sacrament of The Lord’s Supper
Communion, also called The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist, is the family meal of Christians.
We invite all committed followers of Jesus Christ to share in this sacrament: those who are
baptized members of a congregation that proclaims the gospel, who are at peace with God
and their neighbor, and who seek strength to live in a deeper communion with Jesus. If you
are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend
this time in prayer. We hope that this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship
with Jesus Christ and with his people, the Church.
(Gluten free communion bread is available upon request; please speak to the pastor before
the service or alert your server during communion.)
Closing Hymn #508
Benediction
“I Will Sing the Wondrous Story”
Rowley/Bilhorn
Mark 4:1-34
Again he began to teach beside the sea. And a very large crowd gathered about him, so that he
got into a boat and sat in it on the sea, and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land. 2 And he
was teaching them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them: 3 “Listen! Behold, a
sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and
devoured it. 5 Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it
sprang up, since it had no depth of soil.6 And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no
root, it withered away. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it
yielded no grain. 8 And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing
and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.”
9
And he said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
10
And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the
parables. 11 And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but
for those outside everything is in parables, 12 so that
“they may indeed see but not perceive,
and may indeed hear but not understand,
lest they should turn and be forgiven.”
13
And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all
the parables? 14 The sower sows the word. 15 And these are the ones along the path, where the word is
sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. 16 And
these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive
it with joy. 17 And they have no root in themselves, butendure for a while; then, when tribulation or
persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. 18 And others are the ones
sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, 19 but the cares of the world and the
deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves
unfruitful. 20 But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it
and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.”
21
And he said to them, “Is a lamp brought in to be put under a basket, or under a bed, and not
on a stand? 22 For nothing is hidden except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret except to come
to light. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”
24
And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be
measured to you, and still more will be added to you. 25 For to the one who has, more will be given,
and from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”
26
And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. 27 He
sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. 28 The earth
produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 But when the grain is
ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
30
And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use
for it? 31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the
seeds on earth, 32 yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and
puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”
33
With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it. 34 He did
not speak to them without a parable, but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

PUBLIX PARTNER PROGRAM - Publix Super Markets has a great program that will
enable Faith Christian School to make money every time you shop at Publix. It’s simple! All
you need to do is present a FCS - Publix Partners card when you shop, and Publix will
handle everything else! You can pick up a card in the Narthex or in the rear of the sanctuary.
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL OFFERINGS - This winter and spring we will look at how
the church became what it is today starting from the Patristic writers and going through the
Church Councils, the Great Schism, the Crusades, the Inquisition, and yes, the Reformation.
Erik McDaniel is teaching this class on church history in L14 (Vic Minish’s classroom).
Rick Searle is teaching an Inquirer’s Class for anyone interested in joining the church, in the
Board Room.
SMALL GROUPS ARE UNDERWAY - Please see the chart on the former page for time
and location.
KICK (KID’S IN CHRIST’S KINGDOM) and POYO (PARENTS OF YOUNG ONES)
On Wednesday evenings, Erik and the Sr. Highers are leading our kids (grades pre-K to 6th)
in an hour of games, worship, teaching, and discipleship in the Commons starting at 6:00
p.m. and ending around 7:15 p.m. (sensitive to bedtimes!). For adults to fellowship and
study, there is a men’s gathering (in the board room near the commons) and women’s
gathering at the same time (meeting in the church office). One week a month, we all gather
together (kids and adults) for an outward-facing service night where the kids and adults serve
in the community together.
MEN'S RETREAT, MARCH 13 & 14 ~ SPEAKER: DR. PECK MALLORY
Men have a reputation for not asking for directions when it becomes apparent that we are
not going where we thought we were going. Paul tells us in Philippians 1:6 with confidence
that we WILL reach our destination. "And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work
in you WILL bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." The problem is that in the
here and now, we often fail to see much progress. At work there is disappointment; at home
we often fail to love as we should. We can grumble and complain, and wonder if perhaps
we've taken a wrong turn. Where is the joy of our salvation? Please join us at Shocco
Springs, Friday evening and Saturday morning, March 13 & 14, for food, fellowship and an
opportunity to be encouraged about what God is doing to complete in us what He has
begun. The cost is $80.00. Hope to see you there!

WHAT WE BELIEVE
• We believe the Bible is the written word of
God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without
error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is
the revelation of God’s truth and is infallible
and authoritative in all matters of faith and
practice
• We believe in the Holy Trinity. There is
one God, who exists eternally in three
persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy
Spirit.
• We believe that all are sinners and totally
unable to save themselves from God’s
displeasure, except by His mercy.
• We believe that salvation is by God alone as
He sovereignly chooses those He will save.
We believe His choice is based on His grace,
not on any human individual merit, or
foreseen faith.
• We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal
Son of God, who through His perfect life and
sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who
will trust in Him, alone, for salvation.
The Vision of Faith
Presbyterian Church is
To become a fellowship of
believers who are experiencing
the transforming power
of the Gospel
