He spoke of the expansion of the program, it being taken on board by other clubs and the support that they are getting from suburban clubs (such as MASH). • The gathering then enjoyed the much improved range of menu options now on offer for dinner. • After the meal, Lesley Hewitt introduced Lauren. • Lauren, a student at Daylesford Secondary School, spoke of her experience in “The Defying the Drift” program with visits to Agricultural Colleges and her intent to follow a scholastic path to a career in ergronomy. From Daylesford to Melbourne University to study and achieve a Batchelor of Agriculture, with world-wide opportunities in food, fibre and fuel, she will go a long way. • A fellow student, Kirstie Ford, was to speak tonight but was unable to come. We may hear from her a later stage. • Part of the program includes training and practice at public speaking; a skill that Lauren is developing nicely. • In the program, approximately 25 students are taken at a time. The cost is subsidised by Rotary Clubs form country and city. • The Defying the Drift programs fits well with our agricultural scholarship program. It should make take up of the scholarships more popular. • Ron Brown conducted an entertaining sergeant session. Many fines and many laughs; good work Ron! • A reminder that volunteers are needed for the next Farmer’s Market on 7th February. Editor’s Notes: YOUR FEEDBACK ON THE LAKE WANTED! Hi everyone - in Frank Page’s (Friends of Lake Daylesford) last posting on 13 January reference was made to Council wanting feedback on the lake from both residents and visitors. This will help them focus their efforts in the most important areas as they work on improving the overall lake reserve. So, now's your chance! Ben Shoo from Urban Design is assisting council with their planned upgrade of the lake reserve and he will be gathering your feedback. On Friday 6 February from 10.30 am he will be conducting some 'walk and talk' sessions and this is your invitation to attend and take part. The sessions will commence from the Boat House Cafe at 10.30 am. To help with numbers please call Paulette Pleasance at council to confirm your participation - Tel. 5321 6142 As Daylesford Rotary are involved with the Peace Mile Improvement project and have the intention of looking at restoration of the old pavilion as another project, a strong Rotary presence is desirable.
