T.Raghavendra 14. D.Venkatesh About the College S.V.Agricultural College, Tirupathi was established in the year 1960. The Department of Plant Physiology was constituted in the year 1978. M.Sc(Ag) and Ph.D programme in Plant Physiology was initiated in the year 1985 and 2011 respectively .The Plant Physiology Club (APAU) was started in the year 1985 aiming at integration of Plant Physiologists of ANGRAU for teaching and research advancements through the conduct of meetings About the Seminar India has made great strides in increasing food grain production since the Green Revolution era of the mid-sixties. In the recent past, the growth rates in horticulture, livestock and fishery sectors have been impressive and have significantly contributed towards agricultural gross domestic product (GDP agri). The average agriculture sector growth over the last three years has remained around 3.7%. Nevertheless, the declining total factor productivity, diminishing and degrading natural resources and stagnating farm incomes have become major concerns. The impact of trade liberalization on agriculture and the global climate change are new challenges. At the same time, new opportunities are emerging for Indian agriculture. Commercialization of agriculture, diversification towards high-value commodities and integration with the global markets are the new opportunities. It appears that the Indian agriculture, being at the cross-roads, is currently facing both unprecedented challenges and unparalleled opportunities. Plant Physiologists consistently played an important role by elucidating various conventional physiological and biochemical processes with implications in crop improvement through breeding or by molecular approaches. Green revolution has made us self- sufficient in food grain production because of the development of high yielding varieties having high harvest index, photo-insensitivity and high fertilizer responsiveness. However, uncontrolled and disproportionate application of fertilizers has also resulted in deficiencies and toxicity of nutrients in our soil, besides creating problem of pollution of underground water resources. There is an urgent need of developing strategies to alleviate these disorders in order to boost crop productivity. Studies on basic processes like photosynthesis and other biochemical functions for ultimate synthesis of agricultural produce under biotic and abiotic stresses are of tremendous significance. Therefore in order to meet ever increasing demand of food grains, physiological and molecular interventions are need of the hour to enhance crop quality as well as quantity. Plant Physiology has immensely contributed and provided advances in plant sciences research in agriculture, forestry, horticulture, and plant molecular biology. Therefore, it was envisaged to conduct a ISPP South Zonal Seminar on “Crop physiology: Emerging Challenges and Opportunities for Sustainable Agriculture” at S.V. Agricultural College Tirupati. Hopefully, academics and agricultural scientists from various universities as well as research institutes across South Zone of ISPP will participate and exchange their meaningful research outcome. Technical sessions The seminar consists of invited lectures and poster presentations covering the following areas : 1. Physiological aspects of crop productivity, crop modelling, nutrio-physiology and growth regulators. 2. Physiological and molecular approaches for abiotic and biotic stress and its management. 3. Biotechnological and nanotechnological interventions for enhancing crop productivity. 4. Natural resources management, biodiversity and germplasm conservation. 5. Sustainable agriculture in relation to climate change. 6. Physiology of horticultural, plantation and medicinal plants. Scientific program and abstract The seminar features invited talks and poster presentation only. Participants are requested to send typed abstract in duplicate on good quality A4 size paper leaving 2.5 cm margin along with a soft copy of the same through email attachment. The file should have the name of the author. The abstract should be typed in English using MS word single space ( Font : Times New Roman, Font size : 12) and should not exceed 250 words . Abstract should contain title of the paper, name of authors, followed by their address and email. The name of the author presenting the paper should be underlined. The hard copy of the abstract should be sent to Dr. G. Rama Rao , Organizing Secretary. The soft copy of the abstract should be submitted by email to [email protected] on or before 20th February 2015. Presentation guidelines Invited Lectures: There will be invited lectures on the theme of the seminar by different scientists from renowned research institutions. Poster presentation: There will be a structured and organized poster session on that day to encourage the participants. The best poster in each session will be considered for award. 1 x 1m area will be provided for the poster necessary materials for poster display will be provided. Registration : Participants are requested to register on or before 20th February 2015 by paying the registration fees (Non refundable) at the following dates through demand draft drawn
