1 DECEMBER
A second chance to book this tour. We had been looking for some time for two of the best West End shows
with top price stalls seats. An opportunity to escape the winter and enjoy staying in the luxury Cavendish
Hotel in the heart of Mayfair. Shakespeare in Love is fantastic – superbly acted, a cheeky mixture of romance,
lots of comedy and of course how could one forget about “the bit with a dog”. Rave reviews from even the
most hardened of critics! You are certain to enjoy the play whether or not you have seen the film.
'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' is a homage to the golden age of the musical, highly entertaining, great original
songs, funny and beautifully presented. The action is set on the French Riviera, where a debonair English con
man masquerading as a disinherited prince seduces and persuades unattached ladies to part with their cash.
The Royal Academy of Arts is to host a major Rubens exhibition, with a focus on his influence on fellow
artists. Rubens and His Legacy will bring together a selection of Rubens' greatest masterpieces alongside
artists as diverse as Manet, Klimt and Turner.

April 2015
(3 nights)
Travel by Eurostar London to Lille to discover the great art galleries of Northern France; staying at the Carlton
Hotel, a beautiful 19th century building situated in the heart of the old part of the city next to the Grand Place
and surrounded by beautiful Flemish style buildings. There will be a visit to the new Louvre-Lens, an annex of
the Louvre in Paris, a modern state of the art building that houses exhibits on loan from the Louvre. Lille’s fine
art museum is the Palais des Beaux-Arts, a splendid Belle Époque building dating from the late 1890s with a
suitably illustrious art collection and superb sculpture galleries; there will be a tour of the highlights.
La Piscine - Musée d’Art et d’Industrie in Roubaix; as interesting for the building as for its exhibits, the
museum is a former art deco 1930’s swimming pool remodelled as a museum. It contains an unusual
collection of statues, paintings, ceramics and textiles.
The Château de Beloeil is a stately home that began life as a medieval fortress but over the centuries has been
transformed into a country home with a magnificent 17th century Baroque garden. The art collection and
library containing many rare books were saved from a fire in the original house. The Château hosts an
Amaryllis Festival with beautiful displays of some 5000 flowers in the main rooms. A tour of the house before
lunch and then a land train can transport you around the landscaped gardens. Ypres is so close to Lille that an

Europe when the house became the headquarters of the main allied commanders; one of the most
momentous decisions of the Second World War was taken in the old library in June 1944. An afternoon visit

Hidden Gardens
Exclusive visits to private gardens
From the Donnington Grove Hotel near Newbury
15 - 18 June 2015 (3 nights)
This new Hampshire tour includes gardens that are only occasionally open for private tours. They are all very
different, have superb planting and are cleverly designed to give all year round interest. You will stay at the
Donnington Grove Hotel and Country Club, a lovely converted private house set in 500 acres of grounds and
lakes.
The gardens include: The Down House, a 3-acre garden created with a large potager and its own vineyard
overlooking the Itchen Valley. Nearby Dean House, Kilmeston, described as one of Hampshire’s well-kept
secrets. An outstanding garden with hugely long wisteria tunnel and a superb walled garden with numerous
different varieties of vegetables and countless individual plants. In the Test Valley two magical gardens: The
Buildings, a lovely garden on the downs overlooking Broughton, which has received rave reviews from the
gardening press. The owners have used grasses to beautiful effect and the result is particularly good as an
inspiration for a dry garden. Ordnance House, a completely new garden designed and planted in less than
three years with a wide variety of herbaceous plants in formal and informal designs.
Chelsea gold medallist and garden designer Andrew McIndoe, Managing Director of Hillier’s will give a
guided tour of the lovely garden that he and his wife have created at Sandhill Farm. Then a very special visit
and tour to an inspirational lady who has turned her field near Hinton Ampner into acres of scented garden
roses, herbs and other classic English flowers. The scent is intoxicating, colours mesmerising from the tunnels
of garden roses flanked by a vast array of classic flowers and foliage. Rosebie Morton now supplies flowers
to major retail stores and Covent Garden.

of the most beautiful countryside in Wiltshire, this very successful history
festival has taken the country by storm. It is the largest festival dedicated to
history, with a series of top-class literary events offering a unique blend of
talks, discussions & debates. Alongside, a vast living history of through-the-ages encampments and a
stunning warbird air show. It is a celebration of the past like no other. The Chalke Valley History Festival plays
host to many of our most popular, passionate and leading historians, from Dan Snow, Antony Beevor,
Amanda Forman, Claire Tomalin and Michael Wood to leading academics and well-loved personalities such as

At this stage it is too early to confirm the literary talks but Heritage Touring has the opportunity to choose
lectures in advance and you will have the chance to decide on six out of a possible eight which we will have
reserved from the Festival highlights over this weekend. When published the programme will also be sent to

Longborough Festival Opera consistently offers high-quality country-house operatic performances within
the intimate setting of a beautifully restored barn converted into a 480-seat opera house in the glorious
Cotswold countryside with views across the Evenlode Valley. Enjoy an evening performance of Verdi’s
masterpiece Rigoletto, a tragic tale of passion, revenge and sacrifice. Filled with drama and emotion, the

the ‘Town of Books’
From the Green Dragon Hotel, Hereford
22 - 25 May 2015 (3 nights)
The Hay on Wye Festival continues to be the most sought after
literary event not only for audiences but also for writers, comedians,
musicians, past presidents, prime ministers and Governors of the Bank
of England! The greatest names in the literary world gather together
on the outskirts of this attractive small town, with its backdrop of hills
that form part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. They share new
visions of the literary world with the hundreds of visitors who return
year after year to an event that has its own unique atmosphere and is
always buzzing with anticipation and ideas. At this early stage we
cannot be precise as to who will be taking part but we will purchase
tickets for the highlights of the two days.
This weekend break includes two days at the Festival with tickets for
six literary events and the opportunity to attend other talks and activities. Hay is also known as Book Town, as
it includes no less than 40 bookshops specialising in second-hand, antique and new books. To ensure enough
time to enjoy both the little town of Hay and to attend the lectures, there will be an early dinner on both
evenings at the Swan Hotel in the centre of Hay.
You will stay at the Green Dragon Hotel adjacent to the Cathedral in Hereford. An historic but comfortable
hotel with a certain amount of character, chosen for its location within easy distance of Hay and with good rail

The Goodwood Revival is a magical step back in time, a celebration of the halcyon days of motor racing as it
used to be with all the accompanying spectacle and glamour of that era, with competitors and spectators
alike dressed in period fashions. The only sporting event in the world set entirely to a period theme. Grand

chips wrapped in 1950’s newspaper, parades of Ford Cortina’s, aerobatics featuring Spitfires and American
Mustangs and transport within the circuit provided by period vehicles - this occasion is the ultimate in an
authentic period experience!
To complement this event, what better way to travel? The British Pullman exudes an aura of elegance and
beauty; originally conceived as ‘Palaces on Wheels’, each lavishly appointed carriage is an original masterpiece
from the 1920’s and 30’s meticulously restored by skilled craftsmen. Intricate marquetry, inlaid mosaic floors
and softly shaded lamps all delicately illuminated by solid brass
fittings set the scene for your dalliance with the golden age of
