Baptism Preparation If you are expectant parents, please arrange to attend our Baptismal Instruction Program before the birth of your child. Baptismal Instruction and Baptisms must be scheduled in person, at the rectory. There is a processing fee of $25. St. Blaise Tuesday, February 3 is the Feast of St. Blaise. In celebration of his feast day, we will bless throats during the 7 and 8 a.m. Masses. Donations to our Food Pantry consist of non-perishable foods: such as soups, sauces, pasta, rice, cereals, dry milk, canned vegetables, as well as toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, etc.) Please check expiration dates before donating food. How to Report Abuse The Archdiocese takes very seriously any and all allegations of sexual misconduct by members of the clergy, Religious and lay staff of the Archdiocese. They meet the first Monday of the month (except for January and February). Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18. Ashes will be given at the 7 a.m., 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Masses. At 12 noon and 3:30 p.m. there will be Ash Wednesday services only. Here are our 2015 Lenten Regulations regarding Fast and Abstinence: 1. The days of both Fast and Abstinence during Lent are Ash Wednesday (February 18) and Good Friday (April 3) The other Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence. On a day of Fast, only one full meal is permitted. Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast. On a day of Abstinence, no meat may be eaten. Those who have reached the age of 14 are obliged by the law of abstinence. 2. The obligation to observe the laws of Fast and Abstinence “substantially,” or as a whole, is a serious obligation. 3. The Fridays of the year, outside of Lent, are designated as days of penance, but each individual may substitute for the traditional abstinence from meat some other practice of voluntary self-denial as penance. 4. The time for fulfilling the Paschal Precept (Easter Duty*) extends from the First Sunday of Lent (February 22) to the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity, (May 31). *Canon 920, §1. All the faithful, after they have been initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, are bound by the obligation of receiving Communion at least once a year. Stations of the Cross During Lent, we will observe Stations of the Cross on the Fridays of Lent at 7 p.m. Please join us as we recall Jesus’ journey to Calvary. Annulment Information Evening An Annulment Information Evening is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. (Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange). A staff member of the Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Newark will provide basic information about annulments; the requirements for annulments, and how to begin the process of petitioning for an annulment.
