SOMEONE A LITTLE NICER !
It’s February and
I’m contractually
obligated to talk
about “love” by the
Greeting Card industry, the Candy & Flower lobbies and 1 Corinthians 13. Well, I’ll get there…
Over a cup of coffee with my Uncle we commiserated over the
actions of someone who was
causing the family grief. In a
spontaneous ‘rant’, my usually
distinctive and measured uncle
went on and on about the
phrase, “I’m just doing what feels
good to me.” That phrase was
the mantra of a temporarily dysfunctional family member that
was causing lots of heartache
and pain for others.
As his volume rose to a crescendo it peaked with a statement that
was simple, yet profound, “When
did doing the right thing, the moral thing, become more important
than doing what ‘feels good’? It’s
insanity!” I just chuckled and took
another slurp of coffee.
I chuckled not at his words, because they were certainly true,
but at his uncharacteristic
demonstrative tone, volume and
gesticulation. As he came
back to his senses and usual
dignity, he calmly said,
“Seems like we switched personalities for a minute there.
Please excuse my rant.”
My refined uncle was giving a
longer version of one of my
favorite quotes:
“Don't be yourself — be
someone a little nicer.”

That takes discipline!
Being “nice” is usually synonymous with love. We often
confuse “affection” with love.
Certainly and hopefully we
feel affection for many of the
people we love. But Paul’s
definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13 goes way past an
affection that may come and
go with all kinds of circumstances. Paul’s love is one of
continual choices to live within certain standards and treat
others with very high standards. With Paul’s beautiful,
and in my opinion deeper,
definition of love we are left
with the following demands:
To be patient and kind.
To not be envious or boastful.
To not be rude, moody or attention seeking.
To forgive the past.
To love truth and to hate evil.
To choose to always protect,
trust, hope and persevere.

That takes discipline!
Love deeply with the deepest
source of love. If you believe
God really loves you, He will
really give you the strength to
love others in the deepest and
most sincerest of ways. And
remember, with God’s help,
“Don’t be yourself – be someone a little nicer!”

SUPER BOWL P ARTY AT GGN AZ
FEBRUARY 1, 2015
Join us on February 1 for this free event. This is a chance to
watch the game, eat and have a good time in an alcohol and
smoke free setting.
It is a pot luck event, so bring your favorite snacks and finger
food. Bring enough to share. Soft drinks will be provided by
the church.
Invite some friends and join us to watch the Seattle Seahawks
and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX. Watch it
play out on our GIANT screen.
If you are not interested in the football game
you can play table games. If you have a favorite table game, bring it with you. This is a
great time to acquaint others with your
church. Arrive anytime after 3:00pm.

We will be starting practices on February 8 for Easter Sunday. You do not need choir
experience to join the choir at this time. If you are interested, please contact Michelle

February is the month of love,
but sometimes we don't feel
loved from those around us.
We can also feel unworthy of
God's love because of our
actions.
I hope and pray that the Holy
Spirit will fall on you this month
so you can feel all of God's
love for you. If you know you
have something standing in
the way of your relationship;
accept God's love for you, believe he will forgive you of your
sins and confess anything that
is separating you from God.
Once you have God's love in

you his love for the people he
has placed in your life.
Youth Event - February 21
We will be going off campus
from 6:00 -10:00 p.m. The cost
will be around $10 plus the cost
of food. Tell me if you are interested in joining the group so

The heart is where we receive
the life that God offers and that
we long for - a life flowing
through us, in rivers, as Jesus
said; and it is through our
hearts that God wants to
change the world. Join me
in this month of Love, asking
the Lord to renew our hearts
and minds and to open our
eyes so that we might see our
world and the people in it
through His eyes. Let the wellspring of Christ's compassion
burst through us to our community, our neighbors and families, and to the uttermost parts
of the earth.
February 22 is our Alabaster
Offering or "Loud Money offering” as our pastor likes to call
it. Get your offering ready so
that you might be a part of the
buildings used to spread
Christ's compassion around
the world.
Sunday, February 22, is being
set aside as a day of prayer for
those trapped in human trafficking - modern slavery. This
is a huge problem and growing
bigger every day. Information
The mission books this year
have really been inspirational,
showing us how the Lords
compassion is flowing around
the world. If you haven't read
them there is still time to do so
and be counted as a reader. The book stand is in the
foyer. Those who have
books; PLEASE read and
RETURN them so that others
may be able to read how the
Lord is working around
the world.
Our church is partnering with
other churches in our commu-
nity reaching out to the homeless in our area. On the first Friday of each month we gather at
the church and make up sack
lunches, then distribute among
the homeless and needy in Garden Grove. If you are interested
in this ministry and are able to
do so, join us on February 6
at 9:30. Laura Woods and Dennis Harmon spearhead this particular outreach. We are also
helping to provide items needed
for a shower program. There is
information available in the foyer
as well as baskets for needed
items.

"Jesus, take away the fog, the
clouds and the veil. Help me to
see your wondrous Love and
grace given so freely to me.
Give me eyes to see how I
might share your compassion with the people you know
by name and love so dearly.”

Get involved in a class or group so you can make some real connections in the
church. Learn, share, and/or interact with other caring Christians at GGNaz.
Sundays at 9:00 a.m.
We have children’s and youth classes which are grouped by age or school grade.
Children can also join our Nazarene Scouting program, Caravan.
College & Career: meet above the Fellowship Hall—last room on the Euclid side.
We have two other adults’ classes. Ron Kindell leads a class based on the Nazarene Curriculum. Mike
Buck leads a class, which is studying Books of the Bible. Both classes meet in the Fellowship Hall.
Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. : Paul Eyskens leads the Men’s Life Group. They meet upstairs in the College/Career room (see above).
Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. : Adult Bible Study meets in the Fellowship Hall and is led by Pastor
Dan. College/Career meets above the Fellowship Hall—last room lower parking lot end. Our Teens
meet with Pastor Gina in the Youth Center.
