Royal Chicano Air Force artists Stan
Padilla, Juanishi Orosco, and Esteban
Villa, will have their art on display at the
Robert T. Matsui Art Gallery. The exhibition
honors the upcoming restoration of the
historic Sacramento mural Metamorphosis,
located on the eastern façade of the
Downtown Plaza parking lot at 3rd & L. The
mural was painted in 1977 by Royal
Chicano Air Force (RCAF) founding
members Padilla, Orosco, and Villa; and
now the mural will be restored by its
creators in 2015. This exhibition features
paintings, drawings, and mixed media by
the three artists.
Originally known as The Rebel Chicano Art
Front (RCAF), the collective was founded
to foster the arts of the Chicano/Latino
community,
educate
young
people,
promote political awareness, and foster
support for Cesar Chavez and the United
Farm Workers in the heavily-agricultural
Sacramento-Davis area.
