HO-EL TAKES THE SPOTLIGHT
Here is our third installment on Chamber introductions. This month, I’d like to introduce
our Vice Chairman Legislative Affairs, Ho-El Park, Law Office of Ho-El Park, P.C.
Ho-El Park serves the community in several capacities. As a Director and
Vice Chairman of Legislative Affairs for the West Orange County Regional
Chamber of Commerce Ho-El has taken gone through great efforts to support the local business community. Furthermore, Ho-El is an Attorney that
practices in the areas of business and real estate. He services mostly business
and real estate owners and their related parties, in their litigation and/or
transactional needs.

As an owner of a law practice, Ho-El is also a business owner that suffers the daily rigors that
take hold of an owner. His products are his “legal services”.

Lee & Perrin Real Estate
“Accordingly, the Chamber of Commerce is a great venue for fellow business owners to share
ideas, network, and brainstorm to figure out ways to benefit each other on a much bigger
scale at a local level,” said Ho-El.

All businesses have challenges and the Chamber is an ideal forum where members can tell
their “war stories” and help each other in overcoming and/ or avoiding these challenges.
Chambers also maintain close ties with our legislators who hear these challenges and make
laws to address them. Ho-El is a strong advocate of this thought, it is valuable and the members should get involved actively in collectively voicing their concerns to our legislators.
Chambers are more than a marketing tool; they are an experience in itself.

NEW NOTABLE LAWS ON DISCRIMINATION AND HARASSMENT
Ringing in the New Year also means new laws are taking effect. Starting January 2015, there are many notable laws that
our business members should be concerned about. In this issue, I would like to highlight three laws dealing with discrimination and harassment.
AB 1443. This law expands harassment protection under Fair Employment and Housing Act to unpaid interns and volunteers. It also prohibits discrimination against unpaid interns. In addition, it extends religious belief protections and religious accommodation requirements to anyone in an apprenticeship training program, unpaid internship, or other similar
programs that provides unpaid experience.
AB 1660. This prohibits employer from discriminating against a person because he/she holds or presents a Driver’s License that is issued to undocumented persons (ones who can submit satisfactory proof of identity and residency in California (also known as “AB 60 driver’s licenses”). It also prevents an employer from requiring a person to submit a driver’s
license unless otherwise required by law. Moreover, employer is required to treat any driver’s license information as private and confidential.
AB1792. This law prohibits discrimination and retaliation against employees receiving public assistance (meaning the
Medi-Cal program).

OUTWARD GROWTH
A presence in not only the cities of Buena Park, La Palma and Stanton but also the entire West Orange County Region is a
distinct quality that the WOCRCOC enjoys. Since the merger the Chamber has expanded its reach to over 16 cities in the
region; this expansion has been a primary byproduct of our Ambassador’s outreach.
Meet-Up, Social Media and close partnerships with our base cities have played a vital role in Stakeholder expansion.
Our latest Holiday Meet-Up attracted multiple businesses from across the region to meet with vital business leaders in an
informal atmosphere. Social Media on the other hand simplifies a search for everything that our Chamber is involved in.
Most importantly, however is our partnership with our base cities and the security it provides for our businesses.
With these tools in hand, the WOCRCOC continues to grow in its partnerships across West Orange County.
