“Walk This Way”
Jay Rogers
How are you walking? Lord willing, we are walking as a faithful Christian. let us continue in
the path that “leadeth unto life” (Matthew 7:13-14). Let us go forward with the attitude of
rejoicing because of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Our prayer should be that this attitude will
cause our light (Matthew 5:14-16) to shine even brighter than it has ever shined before.
As Christians we are not perfect, but we are forgiven, blessed and hopeful! Let’s commit
ourselves (everyone) to doing even more for the Lord’s Body! Doing more must include walking
more and/or further as Christians.
Matthew 5:41 says “And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.”
(King James Version).
Jesus is teaching that if one compels us to go one mile, we should go another mile also.
The Lord is teaching that one should be willing to give more than that which is normally
expected of him. The second mile is the real test of Christianity, it demands that one go all the
way with the Lord. John 14:6
What is the purpose of the Second Mile? I believe we as Christians should go beyond the
sinner and even the good moral person in our duty to others and the Lord. We should show the
world the difference in the world and Christianity or being of the world or being in Christ. I
challenge each of us to express the real spirit of Christianity.
“The Second Mile.” Christ is there and it is where real Christianity begins.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE OF THINGS!
 A Sunday school teacher asked
her children, as they were on the
way to church service, “And why
is it necessary to be quiet in
church?” One bright girl replied,
“Because people are sleeping.”
 Six-year old Angie and her fouryear-old brother Joel were sitting
together. Joel giggled, sang, and
talked. Finally, big sister had
enough. “You’re not suppose to
talk in church.” “Why? Who’s
going to stop me?” Joel asked.
Angie pointed to the back of the
church and said, “See those men
standing at the door? They’re
hushers.”

“ART OF FISHING”
I can remember when we got a
boat when I was younger. We went
fishing and fished all day long. Nobody
caught a fish the whole day. We thought
about leaving, and I started reeling in
my pole so we could leave and I started
yelling “I GOT ONE!” I was so excited I
almost fell out of the boat. After I
clamed down dad helped me get the fish
in the boat, I was all smiles for the rest
of the day. At the end of the day, I was
the only one that caught a fish.
Some people may think that was
a waist of time, but not my greatgranddaddy, Glen “Boat” Utley and me.
As soon as we got home we took it down
to show “boat” my great granddaddy my
first fish I had ever caught. I was so
excited about it and so was he. Dad has
told me stories about going fishing when
he was younger with his granddad and
dad. They planned their trips about
what snacks they would eat while
fishing. He said some days they would
catch a lot of fish and eat lots of snacks
and then sometimes they wouldn’t catch
any fish, but they still ate a lot of snacks.
Sometimes while riding down to St.
Jude for treatment I think to myself,
“What a great day to go fishing!”
Jesus knew how to fish. We read
in (John 21:3-6) that the disciples
decided to go fishing and fished all
night. When Jesus walked by the shore,
He asked, “Children, have ye any meat?”
(The disciples didn’t know that the man
on the shore was Jesus.) They answered
Him, “No”. Jesus then told them to cast
their nets on the other side. When the
disciples did what Jesus told them, they
caught so many fish they couldn’t lift the
nets in the boat. They knew then that
the man on the shore was Jesus, The
Master Fisherman. Jesus helped the
disciples catch many fish, but Jesus is
not concerned about fish. However he is
concerned about bringing men to God.
We read in Matthew 4:18-22 where
Jesus called Peter, Andrew, James and
John from their boats and said, “Follow
me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Each one of us today needs to be
“fishers of men”. Proverbs 11:30 says,
“The Fruit of the righteous is a tree of
life, And he that winneth souls is wise.”
If we do not win souls to Christ or if men
will not come to Jesus their souls are in
danger of everlasting destruction. Souls
will be eternally lost without the Gospel
(II Thessalonians 1:7-9).
Let each one of us seek to do
God’s will. God loved us so much that
He gave His Son to die on the cross for
our sins (John 3:16). Christ came to
SAVE THE LOST. Luke 19:10 says, “For
the Son of Man is come to seek and to
save that which was lost.”
Let us all be “fishers of men”. No
one should be lost in Hell, God has done
to much to save us.
