WELCOME PACKET WITH REQUIRED FORMS A welcome packet will be mailed to all campers by June 12, 2015. This packet will contain forms that must be returned at least one week prior to the beginning of your child’s camp. If you register after June 12, you must pick up a packet from the Registration department in Elkton Station or download the forms from the website at www.cecil.edu. Campers will not be permitted in the classroom until all of the required forms are on file in the Youth Educational Services office. Emergency #’s and going home plans: Page 15 If you forget to return your forms, you must report to the camp office before dropping your child off at camp and complete the required forms. T-SHIRT PICKUP If you order a T-shirt for your child, it will be mailed to you in your welcome packet or you may pick it up from Elkton Station, Room 229, before camp begins, or from the camp office once camp starts. LUNCH All campers will be supervised during lunch. Staff will escort and supervise students during lunch and return them to their afternoon activity. Refrigeration will be provided. Please do not send insulated lunch boxes. The campers tend to lose them and they require much more space in the refrigerator than a disposable bag. Campers will not be permitted to purchase lunch or use the vending machines on campus. SNACKS If your child is staying for after care it can be a very long day. You may send an additional snack and drink for your camper for the end of the day. BEFORE AND AFTER CARE - NO CHARGE Before care meets from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. and after care meets from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Campers can play games, read books, and work on arts and crafts. Destination camps do NOT offer before and after care. LATE PICK-UP Children not picked up within 15 minutes of the ending time of camp will be sent to aftercare to wait for their parents. KIK 590 Hydrangea Albright – Comedy or Tragedy: (YPTP Two Week Camp) A theatre accidentally hires two different playwrights to write a play about Hydrangea Albright, a young girl whose family is cursed with bad luck. One playwright sees her story as a tragedy filled with disappointment and sadness, while the other playwright sees Hydrangea’s story as a whimsical comedy in which failure leads to new opportunity. While the playwrights argue, duel with their pens and even rewrite each other’s scenes, we meet an array of eccentric characters in this play-within-a-play. Youth Educational Services partners with select credit departments to provide students with reallife experiences and understanding of career options. Train with professors and adjunct faculty to get an advanced taste of career options. 3-D Modeling and Animation: Design and produce a short 3-D animation including characters, props and environments that are completely your own. KIC 511 Camp Scrubs: Camp Scrubs is the place to explore the amazing world of medicine. Campers will learn real-life medical skills like taking blood pressure, using stethoscopes, and CPR while they hear from medical professionals and educators about the many careers in health care. Camp Scrubs provides an activity-filled week of fun and learning about health and medicine. NOTE: Portion of the day will be held at Union Hospital. Students should expect to spend a great deal of the day on their feet. KIC 535 Cecil Engineering Challenge: Civil and mechanical engineers build bridges and machines as well as design systems that make our everyday life possible. Spend the week applying scientific knowledge, mathematics and ingenuity to develop solutions to technical problems. Blast off into a fun-filled week of challenges as you build and launch scale model rockets and planes, race balloon vehicles, build the strongest bridge, and more. KIC 513 11 Clay Works: NEW Explore the techniques to create forms out of clay. Build using your hands, pinch, coil, and slab to bring your piece from a concept in your brain to a reality. Explore surface decoration, textures and glazes. No previous art experience is necessary. Just have a desire to create and love being messy. KIC 538 Digital Illustration: Join us for an introduction to the world of digital illustration. Illustrators work to create commercials and ads as well as throughout the media industry. You can find out where you would fit in. Use Photoshop and computer tablets to create several projects that will familiarize you with Photoshop as well as the illustration industry. Note: Previous drawing experience is required. KIC 514 Digital Imaging: Do you enjoy editing photos? This week put your creativity to the test by using the tools of Adobe Photoshop to create and manipulate images. We will complete projects such as photo restoration, image with text, collages, abstract design, magazine ads and much more. Everyone is welcome to bring in their own images or take photos throughout the week to edit. KIC 530 Digital Photography I: Join us for a weeklong immersion into the world of digital photography. What makes some images stand out more than others? Student will learn the fundamentals of composition, color, design and lighting, which are the fundamental building blocks to strong imagery. In addition, we will teach you how to use the different modes on your DSLR camera. Cameras are provided for the camp but feel free to bring your own camera too. We will also introduce students to professional post production in Adobe Photoshop Bridge, Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. And finally, students will print their photographs on our state-of-the-art Canon and Epson ink jet printers to produce a final portfolio. KIC 515 Digital Photography II: This photography workshop is for our return students and those who have extensive experience with the use of DSLR cameras and Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Further your technical skills and begin to develop your personal style. This workshop builds upon the skills in Digital Photography I, where we learned to control light, master our DSLR camera, and find dynamic compositions. This workshop will focus on the importance of conceptualization, metaphor, symbolism and self-expression. We will work in the studio again but with more advanced light modifiers. In our outdoor portraits, we’ll work on more complex posing techniques. And in the state-of-the-art Macintosh computer lab, we’ll further our knowledge in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Terms and tools such as quick mask, blending modes, cloning and transform will become a part of the student’s Photoshop vocabulary. We will complete another portfolio of advanced photographs. KIC 516 Learn to Draw: NEW Whether you are just beginning, or want to further your skills, this class will help you sharpen your visual observation, introduce you to a variety of drawing methods and tools, and explore conceptual ideas of image making. Using your own action figures, clay or other inanimate objects, you will create a short film that will amaze your family and friends. Use a wide range of techniques and media to explore, imagine, and create unique works of art. Draw, paint, print, collage, and build 3-D sculptures. Enjoy creating with textures, patterns, and layers of design—the possibilities are endless! KIC 540 Video Production I: You will use digital video cameras and editing software to create a short movie. Participate in every aspect of movie creation, including concept development, script writing, storyboarding, operating a digital camera and sound equipment, acting, and editing using Final Cut Pro. KIC 526 Physics, Flight, and Rocketry: Using models and hands-on projects, you will build a flight project to test theories of flight. See who can build the rocket that goes the highest or plane that flies the furthest. What do design, wind drag and friction all have to do with the success of your flight? KIC 521 Video Production II: Video Production II expands to the techniques of video production. Emphasis is placed on problemsolving scenarios and hands-on experience. Several short video programs are directed and produced. Students work on an individual basis as well as in teams. KIC 527 Rock Band: So you want to be a rock superstar? This camp offers budding musicians a unique opportunity to play in bands, write their own music, and record demos. Students will spend their days fine-tuning their music skills, culminating in a performance at the end of the week that features them as the star.
