Stay warm everyone and we will see you soon! Mike Rey Hi Everyone, 2015 is in full force already, we have just returned from the yearly MOCSEM Planning summit and it was the highest attendance we have ever had. We welcomed the 5 new board members, I am looking forward to the new energy displayed at the summit. We also had great discussions with other clubs from around the state, sadly 4 of the other clubs invited had to cancel at last minute, but we did share time with our good friends and partners at the Mid-Michigan Mustang Club and the Western Michigan Mustang Club. The Accelerator Content The Boss’s Corner ………………...Page 2 About MOSSEM…………………….Page 3 MOCSEM Minutes…………………..Page 4 It is such a great thing to work together with the other clubs and share ideas and visions with each other. I can tell you that you better mark your calendars for 2019 when the 55th Anniversary of Mustang will be celebrated, as Michigan already has a vision and everyone is on board to put on an event that everyone will appreciate and enjoy! I do NOT plan to be around then, but I am sure I won't be too far away and will probably sit on that show committee at least. We secured some cool events for 2015 on the calendar, such as the Gale Halderman Barn Tour that everyone enjoyed so much in 2014 and have bombarded me to please set up for 2015. It has been set for May 30th, with a pig roast provided by the club. Also as I mentioned at past general meeting the 2015 Downriver Cruise will be different for us this year, new location and added surprises not done in the past, such as a special car show within the event. Don't forget we will be featuring "50 Years of Shelby" and the "SVT Homecoming" along with some other Mustang Member of the Month…..Page 5 MOCSEM Suggested Event’s.…....Page 6 Mustang Number One Pass code.Page 7 Ford Donates Shelby GT350R…..Page 8 Racer’s Corner……….……….……Page 9 Detroit Auto Show in Review……...Page 10 Interesting Mustang Moment………Page11 MOSCESM Summit in Review.…....Page11 The Accelerator Page 3 About MOCSEM Newsletter The Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan (MOCSEM) was founded in November 1975 by a group of individuals with the desire to protect and preserve the Ford Mustang as one of the most attractive and fun filled cars ever made. We are enthusiasts of all ages with a love affair with the many generations of America’s Premiere Pony Car. Whether it’s a coupe, convertible or fastback from 1964½ to the current model or the 2004 Cobra, we love them all. The mission of club members is to collect, restore, and preserve the history of the Mustang along with the stories of the people and the roles that they played in making this one of the great cars of the 20th Century. Although ownership is not a requirement for membership, your enthusiasm, expertise, and / or love of the automobile are most welcome. Many of our club members own one or more Mustangs in varying body styles, models and years. Club members are always exchanging information, providing sources for parts, literature and helpful hints for restoring or maintaining their Mustangs. Our members are a diverse group of individuals, located throughout Southeastern Michigan and all share a great appreciation for the Ford Mustang. Our general membership meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month. Our monthly newsletter, The Accelerator, provides the members with reports on club activities, technical information, advertisements and business service locations and more. According to SplashData – a company specializing in password management – the word “mustang” was the 16th most common password found on the Internet in 2014, the only car moniker that found its way into the top 25. Not only that, Mustang is a slayer of superheroes – more popular than “Batman” and “Superman” as people’s secret code for accessing their personal networks and accounts. “We’re flattered people want to use ‘mustang’ as their password, but alone, it just isn’t strong enough to be secure,” said Keith Moss, Ford Director of Cyber Security. “We encourage people to use ‘mustang,’ but we recommend they strengthen their password by mixing upper and lower case letters, numbers, acronyms and symbols to make it unique.” Keep in mind that using the same password on all websites is not recommended; a password manager can help keep multiple Mustang-related passwords organized and easy-to-access. While you should always keep your Mustang-inspired password a secret, wear your appreciation for the iconic pony car proudly and loudly. The Accelerator Interesting Mustang Moment in History Page 11 MOCSEM Summit in Review-Bridgett Davis Upon a 900 plus mile road trip to the promise land and Mecca of the Ford Mustang, as one of the newest board members of the MOCSEM family, I can share the 2015 summit was not only productive but a journey well worth the venture. The first production Mustang rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan on March 9, 1964, and was introduced to the public at the New York World’s Fair on April 17, 1964. Via the three major American television networks of the day the event aired across the nation on April 19, 1964. With all eleven board members in attendance as well as John Clor of Ford Performance and representatives from both the Mid-Michigan Mustang Club and the Western Michigan Mustang Club a coming together of the Mustang community resulted in the open sharing of information on how we as followers of the Ford gospel and the Mustang way of life can share our passion with others. Making its first silver screen appearance the Mustang not only appeared on TV but the same year was in James Bond film Goldfinger which was released in September of 1964. It was one of the most successful product launches in automotive history. The Mustang sold over one million units in its first 18 months on the market. The Mustang remains in production today after many decades and numerous revisions. Discussing not only normal club agendas for the year we openly discussed how the Michigan Mustang Club community has in recent come together as one, role modeling not a competition for members but how we as Ford and Mustang enthusiasts have crossed the club boundaries to simply enjoy the common interest of the Ford Mustang. Looking forward to 2015, in continuing the celebration of 50 years of the iconic pony MOCSEM would like to thank each and every member and we look forward to seeing everyone at coming events as we continue to grow our family.
