Under the Patronage of His Excellency Engineer Abdullah Al-Hussayen The Minister of Water and Electricity Water Arabia 2015 Conference & Exhibition Innovative & Reliable Water and Wastewater Technologies for Sustainable Water Quality 17 to 19 February, 2015 Le Meridien | Khobar, Saudi Arabia Supported by: 2 | Water Arabia 2015 Water Arabia 2015 Conference & Exhibition Innovative & Reliable Water and Wastewater Technologies for Sustainable Water Quality H.E. Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Alsaud Deputy Minister for Water Affairs Ministry of Water and Electricity Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Fellow Water Professionals and Concerned Citizens: The Water Arabia 2015 conference is an excellent opportunity to focus on our collective efforts and develop solutions to resolve critical water sustainability issues in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. This Conference and Exhibition has been designed to provide capacity building, showcase innovative products and services from local and international companies and provide a collaborative platform in which government and industry representatives can discuss sustainability issues with an emphasis on water. The Saudi government recognizes that water is our most precious natural resource and is highly committed to manage and develop water resources in a rational, integrated, efficient and sustainable way for the benefit of current and future generations, by applying good governance and best management practices to ensure that water is utilized in line with strategic national social and economic goals. The government has already implemented plans to provide service delivery compatible with a high standard of living for the growing population to ensure respect of priorities with regards to environment, safety and public health, to grow public awareness regarding the value of water upon our citizens and encourage conservation of this precious resource in all uses. Modernizing service delivery up to the level of international standard practices and expanding the infrastructure of water and wastewater to fully cover all parts of the Kingdom has become one of the top priorities of the government. During the last five years, a large number of water infrastructure projects, worth billions of Saudi Riyals have been completed including installation of new desalination plants and to upgrade drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities and transmission networks. Specific areas that we seek to improve include reuse of treated wastewater for agriculture, municipal and industrial sectors and the need to develop highly energy efficient methods of water desalination using renewable energy. The organizing committee looks forward to water professionals, industry leaders, and corporate managers to attend this conference which will help in sustainable management of the water resources of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region. Sincerely Yours, Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Alsaud Water Arabia 2015 | 3 Water Arabia 2015 Conference & Exhibition Innovative & Reliable Water and Wastewater Technologies for Sustainable Water Quality Hany K. Abu Khadra Executive Director, Community Services Saudi Aramco Conference Committee Chairman Dear Water and Wastewater Professionals, I welcome you to the 4th biennial Water Arabia Conference and Exhibition. Living and working in Saudi Arabia and the GCC, we are all well aware that water is our most precious resource. Because of this, Saudi Aramco is committed to water conservation and sustainable development and we are proud to be working with the Saudi Arabian Water Environment Association (SAWEA), the Ministry of Water and Electricity (MOWE), the Water Environment Federation (WEF), the International Desalination Association (IDA) and Dammam University to plan and organize Water Arabia 2015. Water Arabia 2015 has been organized to emphasize the critical need for government and industry to work together to use water resources efficiently and sparingly. The conference and the exhibition will highlight innovative ideas and technologies from around the world, which we can use in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) regions to sustain our water resources while expanding our economies. The water scarcity and quality issues that will become more critical as our population and industry grow must be addressed in order to ensure sustainability of our way of life. This year’s conference will start with three excellent workshops on Tuesday, February 17. The workshops will provide basic design fundamentals for Sanitary and Industrial Wastewater design and basic Desalination Design. The workshops will be provided at no cost for any water or wastewater professionals who would like to attend. Engineers and others professionals who need continuing Educational Credits (CECs) will receive credits for completing these workshops. The conference will feature internationally recognized key-note speakers following which we will open the exhibition. In the afternoon, we will begin the technical presentations which will continue through Wednesday, February 19. This year SAWEA is adding a “Poster Contest” to the events. Young engineers and university students are encouraged to present projects through the use of poster boards. All poster contest participants will receive a free one-year membership to WEF and the winner will receive a prize. In conclusion, thanks to His Excellency Abdullah Al Hussayen, the Minister of Water and Electricity, for his patronage and support of this worthwhile event. We also appreciate the efforts of those who worked to organize the conference and Exhibition, the sponsors, exhibitors, technical presenters and delegates. Best Regards, H. K.
