Ministry to
The Sick
2015
I… You… We are One
ABCD
Yo… Usted… Nosotros, somos uno
For centuries, the Catholic Church has performed
more works of charity than any other organization in
the world. Why? Because God is love, and through
that powerful statement, He teaches us that it is in
giving that we receive. His message is simple—
to love God above all else and to love others. It is
through His love that I seek your help. You are the
answer to someone’s prayers, and together, we are
changing lives.
United, as one family of God, we feed the hungry,
cloth the poor, care for the sick and dying, and touch
the hearts of those in despair. With the guidance of
the Holy Spirit, we nourish and educate our children,
both spiritually and intellectually. We assist the
poorest of our parishes and schools so that all persons
may encounter Jesus Christ. We provide shelter for
the homeless. As Catholics, we consistently defend
and respect the dignity of all human life, work to
eliminate prejudice, and promote social justice. We
journey together by sharing in the sacraments—from
baptism to receiving the Eucharist, to confirmation
and penance, to marriage and anointing the sick.
And this year, we are blessed with sixty-five men
studying in our seminaries answering their call to the
priesthood to become shepherds of Christ here in
south Florida. You make all this possible.
alimentamos y educamos a nuestros hijos, tanto
Jesucristo. Proporcionamos refugio a las personas sin
hogar. Como católicos, constantemente defendemos
y respetamos la dignidad de toda vida humana;
Let us unite through our support of this year’s ABCD
so that I… you… and we can continue to carry out
the good works of Jesus Christ here in South Florida.

Demons to Drive Out
Los Demonios Que Hay Que Sacar
Jesus rebuked him and said, “Quiet!
Come out of him!” The unclean spirit
convulsed him and with a loud cry
came out of him. Mark 1:25-26.
The gospels regularly describe
Jesus’ conflict with the powers of
darkness. He heals sickness. He
forgives sins. He drives out demons.
We, who are the body of Christ in the world
today, have the responsibility to carry on that mission of
Christ. Many demons need to be cast out of our world,
not simply demonic spirits themselves, but also other
demons that cause suffering in many ways.
Our ABCD, the annual Archbishop’s Charities and
Development campaign, strives to free many suffering in
South Florida because of a variety of demons.
The demon of poverty. In these precarious
economic times many struggle to sustain themselves
and their families. Through our ABCD we have paid down
and off debts of poorer schools and parishes, so that
they can use their income not just to service bank debts
but to provide pastoral programs. Our archdiocesan
homes for the low income elderly give security and
comfort. Immigrants, migrants and needy children all
benefit through a variety of archdiocesan programs.
The demon of hopelessness. Alcohol and
substance abuse services, counseling services, child
development services, and elderly services are among
the offerings of Catholic Charities.
The demon of sickness. The Archdiocese
provide skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities, home
health assisted living and hospice care.
The demon of ignorance.
Schools in
economically challenged areas receive subsidies to
continue operations.
One parish cannot provide all these services,
but all of our 107 parishes working together can. ABCD
means our stewardship for the Archdiocesan Church.
Thank you for your support.
pastorales. Nuestros hogares arquidiocesanos para
alojar a personas mayores brindan seguridad y confort a
operando.
Una parroquia no puede proveer todos esos
servicios, pero las 107 parroquias que componen la
Arquidiócesis pueden hacerlo, trabajando juntas. El
ABCD significa nuestro Stewardship para la Iglesia
Arquidiocesana. Gracias por su apoyo.
Yours in Christ,
Suyos en Cristo,
