LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR
The heavens were opened and the voice of the Father
thundered: This is my beloved Son, listen to Him.
Dear Parishioners,
For the new year of 2015, we might benefit to look at
these three ways to deepen our friendship with Christ. If the
meaning of life is to be found in friendship with Christ, then should
not our highest priority in life be to constantly deepen that
friendship as we age? There are three simple but necessary ways
to do this.
First, we have to gradually develop a mature life of
prayer. Prayer involves saying prayers and asking for good things
from God. But it also involves reading and meditating on the
Bible, and filling our hearts with gratitude for God's many gifts.
Keeping a diary at Mass as Matthew Kelly advocates, spending
time in the Blessed Sacrament chapel; reading the daily readings
in the ”Magnificat” or some such booklet daily, all these are good
starts.
Second, we have to build our lives around the
sacraments. When John the Baptist called Jesus the "Lamb of
God," he was alluding to the Old Testament lamb sacrificed right
before the Exodus from Egypt. The blood of that lamb saved the
Israelites from slavery. In New Testament times, that prophetic
image is fulfilled in the Eucharist - the body and blood of the real
sacrificial lamb, Christ himself, who saves us from sin. Coming to
Mass every Sunday is a start. Adoring the Blessed Sacrament,
receiving Holy Communion, and opening our hearts to God in
confession, anointing of the sick, and the other sacraments draws
us deeper into that mystery of salvation by linking our lives more
intimately with Christ's.
Third, to deepen our friendship with Christ we have to
make God's will our first concern. One key aspect of friendship is
wanting and liking the same things. Friendship with Christ, then,
means wanting and working for whatever Christ wants and works
for. Today's Psalm puts it beautifully: "Here I am, Lord, I come to
do your will... To do your will, O my God, is my delight." And what
does God's will include? The Ten Commandments, first of all,
and loving our neighbor as ourselves. Prayer, sacraments, and
obedience to Christ's plan: these are the foundation stones of a
meaningful life, a life anchored in heaven, where our friendship
with Christ will reach its everlasting fulfillment. Fr Dan

REFLECTION ON STEWARDSHIP - “John answered
them all, I baptize you with water; but he who is mightier than I is
coming…he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit... ” (Luke 3:16)
Catechism for Adults states that “Jesus‟ immersion in the water
is a sign for all human beings of the need to die to themselves to
do God’s will.” In other words, as baptized Catholics there is only
one simple gift that we need to give to Jesus. The only gift God
wants is a complete offering of ourselves. Once we surrender
ourselves to God in this way, we will know in our hearts what else
God might call us to do. – Twice per month we witness baptisms
here at St. Jerome Parish and we welcome those newly baptized
into our Catholic community. We promise to do all that we can to
support them in their new life in Christ. We do this through our
weekly offering of our time, talent, and treasure. Some will teach
them, but the money we all give will enable St. Jerome Parish to
support all those baptized in their Christian life through fine
religious education and school materials, clean classrooms, and a
welcoming Catholic community. Thank you for your faithful
stewardship.

Queridos Feligreses:
Para el nuevo año 2015, sería muy beneficioso ahondar
en estas tres formas de profundizar en nuestra amistad con
Cristo. Si el significado de la vida debe ser aumentar nuestra
amistad con Cristo, entonces, ¿No deberia ser nuestra más alta
prioridad en la vida el constantemente profundizar en esa
amistad a medida que envejecemos?
Es necesario hacerlo; hay tres formas simples para
lograrlo. En primer lugar, tenemos que desarrollar y
gradualmente madurar una vida de oración. La oración implica
rezar y pedir cosas buenas a Dios; también implica leer y meditar
en la Biblia y llenar nuestros corazones de gratitud por los dones
recibidos de Dios. Llevar un diario de la Misa como nos
recomienda Matthew Kelly, pasar tiempo cada dia en la Capilla
de Adoracion con el Santísimo Sacramento leyendo las Lecturas
diarias del "Magnificat" o alguna otra lectura parecida. Esto sería
un buen comienzo.
En segundo lugar, tenemos que construir nuestras vidas
alrededor de los Sacramentos. Cuando San Juan Bautista llamó
a Jesús el "Cordero de Dios" se refería al cordero del Antiguo
Testamento que fue sacrificado justo antes del Exodo de Egipto.
La sangre del cordero salvó a los israelitas de la esclavitud. En
tiempos del Nuevo Testamento, esa imagen profética se cumple
en la Eucaristía - el Cuerpo y la Sangre del sacrificio del
verdadero Cordero, Cristo mismo, quien nos salva del pecado. El
venir a Misa todos los domingos es un comienzo.
La adoración al Santísimo Sacramento, recibir la
Sagrada Comunión y abrir nuestros corazones a Dios en
confesión, unción de los enfermos y los demás Sacramentos nos
acercan más profundamente hacia ese misterio de la salvación
uniendo nuestras vidas más íntimamente con Cristo. En tercer
lugar, para profundizar en nuestra amistad con Cristo tenemos
que hacer que Dios sea nuestra primera preocupación. Un
aspecto clave de la amistad es querer y preferir las mismas
cosas. Entonces la amistad con Cristo significa decidir que se
quiere trabajar para quien Cristo ama y trabaja. El Salmo de hoy
nos lo dice de una manera maravillosa: "Aquí estoy, Señor,
vengo a hacer tu voluntad... porque hacer tu voluntad, O
Dios mío, es mi deleite". ¿Y cual es la voluntad de Dios? ¿Que
quiere El que hagamos? En primer lugar los Diez Mandamientos,
amar a nuestro prójimo como a nosotros mismos, hacer oración,
lrecibir los Sacramentos y la obediencia al plan de Cristo: estas
son las piedras angulares de una vida significativa, anclada en el
cielo, donde nuestra amistad con Cristo alcanzará su plenitud
eterna. Padre Dan

respondió a todos, “Yo bautizo con agua; pero aquel que es
mas poderoso que yo se acerca… el los bautizara con el
Espíritu Santo…” (Lucas 3:16). El Catecismo afirma que "la
REFLEXION SOBRE LAS ESCRITURAS -
inmersión de Jesús en el agua es una señal para todos los seres
humanos sobre la necesidad de morir en sí mismos para hacer la
voluntad de Dios." En otras palabras, como católicos bautizados
sólo hay un simple regalo que tenemos que dar a Jesús. El único
regalo que Dios quiere es una ofrenda completa de nosotros
mismos. Una vez que nos entregamos a Dios de esta manera,
nosotros sabremos en nuestros corazones que lo que Dios nos
pida lo haremos. – Dos veces al mes nosotros somos testigos de
los bautizos aquí en la Parroquia San Jerónimo y les damos la
bienvenida a los recién nuevos bautizados dentro de nuestra
Comunidad Católica. Nosotros prometemos hacer todo lo que
sea posible para apoyarlos en su nueva vida en Cristo.
Realizamos esto a través de nuestra ofrenda semanal de nuestro
tiempo, talento y tesoro. Algunos les van a dar una enseñanza,
pero el dinero que todos nosotros damos va a hacer posible que
San Jerónimo soporte a todos aquellos bautizados en su vida
Cristiana a través de educación religiosa de calidad y material
escolar, salones limpios y una calurosa comunidad Católica.
Gracias por su fiel compromiso.
FORMACIÓN PARA EL MINISTERIO CRISTIANO.
¿Quieres aprender mas de tu Religión Católica? ¿Quieres
servir mejor en algún ministerio y no sabes cómo? Te
invitamos a que participes en el programa de Formación para
el Ministerio Cristiano donde se ofrece una formación
teológica, espiritual y bíblica basado en la doctrina Católica
impartidos por instructores aprobados y calificados con
grados de Maestría o Doctorado en las ramas de la Teología.
Cada sesión o clase incluye oración y el contenido teológico
esta diseñado para una audiencia adulta. Te invitamos a
que te registres a las clases que se ofrecerán aquí en
nuestra iglesia, todos los jueves a partir del 8 de Enero en
el Centro Padre Raye. Las clases son ofrecidas por la
Arquidiócesis y el costo es $25. Al final del programa, si
asistes a todas las clases recibes un reconocimiento por
parte del Cardenal DiNardo celebrado en una ceremonia.

La segunda colecta de hoy es para apoyar la IGLESIA EN
AMÉRICA LATINA que proporciona ayuda para proyectos y
programas pastorales de Diócesis pobres en América Latina y el
Caribe. Por medio de nuestras donaciones les ayudamos a
organizar programas catequéticos y liderazgos laicos, Ministerios
para la juventud, programas de evangelización y de formación
para los religiosos, sacerdotes y diáconos. Los seminaristas
diocesanos en Colombia agradecen a este programa por ayudar
a proveer un ambiente de aprendizaje enriquecedor para sus
estudios. La colecta para la iglesia en América Latina proporciona
al seminario la capacidad de crecer y ofrecer mejores servicios
para sus estudiantes. Los católicos en América Latina y el Caribe
enfrentan muchos problemas cuando se trata de compartir su fe;
Sin embargo, la esperanza siempre brilla y la luz surge por
medio de sus donaciones. Por ejemplo, en la diócesis de San
Miguel, El Salvador, los jóvenes de la parroquia de la Sagrada
Familia corren un alto riesgo de violencia y actividades de las
pandillas. En respuesta, la parroquia diseñó un programa de
liderazgo para abordar la necesidad de los jóvenes de
habilidades de pensamiento crítico y educación en valores y
enriquecimiento de la juventud. La parroquia espera ayudar a los
jóvenes que viven en estas zonas de alta vulnerabilidad a crear
una cultura de solidaridad y paz dentro de sus barrios. La
parroquia actualmente involucra a un grupo de 75 jóvenes
adultos que se convertirán en líderes juveniles para difundir el
mensaje del Evangelio en sus vecindarios y romper el ciclo de

positivo del regalo de la
sexualidad como una parte
buena y esencial del amor y la vida. Es nuestra esperanza que
este curso les brindará a sus adolescentes el conocimiento y la
comprensión que tienen relación con el significado y propósito de
su identidad, su sexualidad y de su propia existencia. Para
revisar el contenido de la TEOLOGÍA DEL CUERPO PARA
ADOLESCENTES y ver un DVD explicativo de los autores,
invitamos a los padres a asistir a una sesión informative el
domingo 25 de enero a las 6:30 en el OUTBACK. Las sesiones

Today’s second collection supports the CHURCH IN LATIN
AMERICA which provides support for pastoral projects in
financially poor dioceses in Latin America and the Caribbean and
funds catechetical and lay leadership programs, youth ministry,
evangelization programs, formation programs for religious,
priests and deacons. Diocesan seminarians in Columbia thank
the Catholic faithful and the bishops of the United States for
assisting to provide an enriching learning environment for their
studies. The Collection for the Church in Latin America provided
the seminary with the ability to grow and provide better services
for their students. Catholics in Latin America and the Caribbean
face many challenges when it comes to sharing their faith; yet the

Diocese of San Miguel, El Salvador, the youth of Holy Family
Educando Mente, Corazón y Espíritu
Parish are at high risk for violence and gang activity. In response,
the parish designed a youth enrichment and leadership program
to address young people’s need for critical-thinking skills and
values education. The parish hopes to help the youth living in
these high-vulnerability areas create a culture of solidarity and
peace within their neighborhoods. The parish currently engages a
group of 75 young adults. They will become youth leaders to
spread the gospel message in their neighborhoods and break the
cycle of violence. The generosity of the faithful here in the United
States has helped countless people throughout Latin America and
the Caribbean. Just a few examples of what recent grants have
provided include: In Colombia, the Collection provided the
resources and programs needed to prepare children for
First Communion + In Guadalajara, Mexico, the Collection
enabled the Dominican Sisters of Charity to start a peace
education program for youth and allowed them to establish
a Catholic Educational Center. + In Mexico City, a grant
from the Collection enabled a parish to strengthen the
bonds of married couples through the use of marriage
renewal retreats and provided the opportunity to create a
second initiative centered on the prevention of domestic
violence. + In El Salvador, a parish is now able to
administer a program for youth at high-risk. The program
addresses the needs for values education and acquisition
critical thinking skills. The goal is to engage individuals who
will become youth leaders illuminated by the Word of God.
These individuals in turn will help others make decisions
and a better life through the Gospel message in their daily
