Please join us to pray for those who
cannot pray for themselves. Would you
like to do something special for your
loved ones who have crossed over from
this world to the next? You can participate in the spiritual work of mercy,
"Praying for the Dead." On the second Friday of
each month we will be PRAYING THE STATIONS
OF THE CROSS FOR THE POOR SOULS IN
PURGATORY. Stations of the Cross will be held
at 6:30pm in the church. Please join us to remember our loved ones and those souls in purgatory
who have no one to pray for them.

and chapel next weekend. If you wish to order
flowers, please call Alice Bolchoz (843-766-7202)

OF ADULTS (RCIA) PROGRAM:
Our next class will be Wednesday,
January 25, 2017.
For more
information, contact Sr. Colie at 843556-0801.
The Knights of Columbus would like to THANK
ALL THOSE WHO BOUGHT THE KEEP
CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS MAGNETS during
Advent. Our hope is that the over 200 magnets
made their way on to motor vehicles to remind
and inform people of the Reason for the Season.
We would like to thank those who simply made
donations. The $1,131 raised will be given to
the Columbus HOPE (Helping Other People
Everyday) Foundation which is dedicated to
helping our mentally challenged citizens.
SANCTUARY LIGHTS in the church and the
chapel are lit this week in loving memory of
Deputy Joseph John Matuskovic with love
from Mom and Dad.
FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY: Want to start a New Year's
resolution that you can keep, and
at the same time help your family?
Blessed Sacrament will be offering Financial Peace
University class to our parishioners and community, beginning on February 13th. This up-lifting,
biblically based program on personal finance has
something for everyone no matter your situation in
life. The class meets for 9 weeks, one night a
week, with small-group discussions to help encourage accountability and discipleship. FPU teaches
members how to handle money God's way, and His
ways work! For more information, please plan to
attend the Preview/Enrollment Meeting on February 2nd in the parish hall at 7 p.m. Families, couples, teenagers, and singles are all invited to attend this truly life-changing class!
The Sisters of Saint Elisabeth Convent (Belarus) will be available after
the Masses at Blessed Sacrament
Church on February 25 and 26 to
sell their HANDMADE RELIGIOUS
ARTICLES AND SOUVENIRS. For
more than 15 years, the sisters have
been rendering spiritual, social and financial support to the sick and suffering at the National Psychiatric Clinic, the boarding home for children with
special needs and mentally challenged adults and
TB clinic. Please help support the many people in
need by purchasing items of devotion for yourself
and your loved ones.
BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC SCHOOL
Congratulations and thanks to the Blessed Sacrament Parish Athletic Association. The First Annual Chili Cook-off and Oyster Roast was a great success! There were many great tasting chili
recipes from parents, parishioners and friends! It was truly a night of fun!
Catholic Schools Week begins on January 29th with the Open House for families and friends
from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Applications for enrollment will be available, and teachers of all grades
will be available to answer any questions you may have about the school. Catholic Schools Week
will end with the H.S.A.-sponsored 4th Annual Trivia Night and Silent Auction on Saturday, February 4th, in the parish hall beginning at 6:30 p.m. This is an adult-only event (21 years old and
above), and there are 8 people per team. So, now is the time to organize a team of family and
friends and join us! (If you don't have a team, trivia sponsors will do their best to find a team for
you!) The cost is $15 a player or $120 per team of 8 players. Deadline to register is January
27th.
There are a lot of amazing students at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School. Sometimes things
"just happen" that make one say "Wow!" In K3, the students enjoy listening to their teachers read
stories to them. Being just 3 years old, it is amazing how their attention and interest can be captured.
Our basketball season is in full swing. Some of our younger teams won their first games this
past week. Please check our Facebook page for the game schedules!
Thank you - families, parishioners, and other friends - for your support of BSCS as a Tradition
of Excellence - Engaging the Mind, Challenging the Body, Enlightening the Soul. Helping students reach their God-given potential since 1948.

RESPECT LIFE
S C R I P T U R E
READINGS: When Jesus
begins to preach, he starts
by saying "Repent" (today's
Gospel). When John the
Baptist began to preach, he
said, "Repent" (see Mt. 3:1-2). When Peter began to
preach on the day of Pentecost, he said, "Repent" (see
Acts 2:38). The readings talk today about light breaking
into darkness. Repentance, whose Greek words mean a
change of the mind, is enlightenment that what one may
have thought was right is actually wrong, and what one
thought led to happiness and fulfillment actually does
not. The imperative to repent, furthermore, comes about
precisely because light has broken into darkness. Jesus
says in today's Gospel passage that the reason, motive,
and basis for repentance is that "the Kingdom of heaven
is at hand." A kingdom has broken into the world;
therefore, we see its light, are attracted by it, and begin
to move in its direction. This means breaking from sin
and from all that leads us away from the light.
The great darkness of our day is the myth that some
human lives, particularly those in the womb, just don't
count. To so many, these lives are not worthy of
constitutional protection, not worthy of our public
witness, and not even worthy of discussion. Often, this
is because of the very phenomenon Paul describes in the
second reading. "I belong to this political party." "I
belong to that organization." "I follow this particular
philosophy or theology." Based on many of these false
divisions among us, some try to justify "the right to
choose" abortion. Yet Christ breaks through these false
divisions. If all are one in Christ Jesus, it is because he
has united all human life to himself and given us all an
equal call to salvation and eternal life. Raising human
life to the heights of heaven he has raised men and
women, born and unborn. There is only one human
nature, and by the Incarnation and the Paschal Mystery,
everyone who shares that human nature now also shares
access to the very life of God. Because of that, we uphold
the dignity of every person. This indeed is the light that
has broken into our darkness, the Kingdom of God that
ushers us to repentance. (www.priestsforlife.org)
