Message from your Spiritually Adopted Baby: "Thank you for praying for me. My heart is beating!” Month 1: Your spiritually adopted baby has been quite active over the past month. Already your baby is 10,000 times bigger than at conception. Your baby has developed the foundations of his brain, spinal cord, and nervous system by the 20th day. Your baby is most vulnerable during the next month of being aborted. Pray that the Lord of Life might move the heart of his mother to give him the most precious gift of all - - the gift of life. The St. Vincent de Paul Society The St. Vincent de Paul Society will meet on Monday, November 21 at 6:15 P M in Room 104. New members are always welcome. Sacred Heart School Fellow Parishioners, Greetings in Christ! We often talk about collaboration in our workplaces, and one facet of leadership examines how well leaders can facilitate and encourage meaningful collaboration, in such a way that it impacts the mission and success of the organization. Our Archdiocese of course encourages this concept, and it really hit home in a powerful way last week. Recently, our School Board formed a Technology Committee, part of our strategic plan, looking at how to not only maintain, but grow and improve, our technology program in the immediate future. The Archdiocese offered to send the Archdiocesan Director of Academic Technology to help this committee, and through this link, we were invited to tour St. Philip Neri on the south side of the beltway. I very much thank their principal and technology instructor, because they were using a dynamic program that has much inspired our committee. As our team went down to visit, we learned that their program focuses on programming, and that there now exists many shape based, visual programming software systems, that allow even the youngest children to engage in programming, also called coding. In their school, students are programming various robotics devices, small systems that can then traverse a mat, get around obstacles, or follow a path, change directions a few times, and return to a base point. They also use small drones which run on a pre-programmed code, hovering for a few minutes and then shifting right or left a few meters before landing. They had other facets at work as well, including 3D printing, a major Archdiocesan initiative, and it was a very exciting day for us, especially because it helped us envision new opportunities for our children. Sometimes, none of us can see new opportunities unless we have help. Scripture tells us in Mark 6: 7-8: “he summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick—no food, no sack, no money in their belts.” This was perhaps the first example of our Church collaborating together the build the Kingdom. Hopefully, the joy our Technology Committee found in working with the Archdiocese and St. Philip Neri is another example of our Church continuing the call to collaborate. This week, let us pray for the grace to see where God is asking us to collaborate, and to allow that collaboration to indeed build His Kingdom. May God so bless us!
