Stewardship Reflections
31st Sunday in Ordinary Time
“But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord,
‘Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the
poor, and if I extorted anything from anyone I shall
repay it four times over.’” LUKE 19:8
We are all called to graciously give back to the
Lord in proportion to the blessings we have been
given. This means everyone isn’t called to give
the same amount, but is called to give equal sacrifice. No amount is too small or insignificant! Open your heart, how is God calling you?
defraudé a
alguien, le devolveré cuatro veces más." Lucas 19: 8
Abre
tu corazón, ¿cómo te está llamando Dios?
Mission Sunday Reflection
31st Sunday in Ordinary Time
This coming week we celebrate two important days in the life of the Church; All Saints and All Souls Day. Each
feast day is intended to remind us of a particular aspect of our Christian faith.
All Saints Day, November 1, is celebrated to remind us of the basic nature and unity of the Church.
Many years ago (in the late 1970’s) there was a popular book titled “Made not Born.” This book discussed
implementation of the RCIA program in a time when the RCIA was first reintroduced after the Second Vatican
Council. The author’s point is—Christians are not born into the Faith, rather they are brought into the Faith by
the Sacrament of Baptism. Through Baptism we become members of the Church—the adopted sons and
daughters of God—and the brothers and sisters of Christ.
In Baptism we become members of the Church and members of the Kingdom of God. In the truest sense of the
word we become brothers and sisters in Christ through Baptism. As Catholics we are united to all the
baptized—those followers of Christ who lived long ago are truly our brothers and sisters. Because the Church is
a supernatural reality, that is unbounded by time or space, we can also say that we are mystically united to all
believers: we are united to future generations of followers of Christ.
All Souls Day, November 2, continues the basic message of All Saints yet with a specific intent. We are
reminded to pray for those who have died. Nothing unclean or imperfect can come into the presence of God and
since we all are imperfect there must be a way that our imperfection is reconciled. The Church’s doctrine
concerning Purgatory addresses this. Purgatory is the process through which we are fully reconciled with God.
God forgives the eternal consequences of sin when we seek forgiveness. We still must deal with the temporal
consequences of sin: “temporal punishment for sin.” Our prayers for the dead assist them in this process of full
reconciliation with God. The souls in Purgatory are bound for citizenship in Heaven; but only after the process
of cleansing.
Born”, (Hecho no Nacido).

Thanksgiving Baskets
SVDP will again this year be giving
Thanksgiving baskets to some of the
people who get food at the pantry. We will
need your help in this effort. We will be
giving away at least 150 baskets and will
give these baskets out during the week of
November 14.
A basket consists of the following items:
 1 pkg. stuffing
 1 box bisquick
 1 box instant potatoes
 1box cornbread mix
 2 cans corn
 2 cans green beans
 2 cans fruit cocktail
 1 large can sweet potatoes
 1 can cranberry sauce
 2 cans chicken broth
 1 large bottle cooking oil
 1 large box jello
 $10 check (made out to SVdP [St.
Vincent de Paul]) or cash to purchase
meat of the recipients choice
You may place the food in the grocery
carts in the narthex of the church or drop it
off at the pantry during our operating
hours. Thanking you for your generosity.
The usher ministry is in need of volunteers. The
purpose of ushering in church is not merely to
serve people, as in a theater or restaurant. Its
purpose is to serve God. If you feel that God is
calling you to serve in this wonderful ministry
answer the call by contacting Ana Seay
