CELEBRATING THE MONTH OF
OCTOBER WITH MARY
“The Power of the rosary will bring blessings into our lives
too numerous to count, It can clear confusion from our
thoughts, chase trouble from our hearts, resolve problems
that plague us, restore us to health, and fill us with
happiness and hope”
~Immaculee Ilibagiza (author of Left to Tell, Led by Faith).
In our Catholic identity and spirituality, the months of May and
October are revered as the sublime months of our
Blessed Mother Mary. October is a very important month
for several reasons: the Church celebrates her mission of
defending human life from conception to natural death as
we celebrate the Respect Life Sunday on the weekend of
October 3rd and 4th. More so, it is also the month that
our Blessed Mother fulfilled her promise to the little
children of Fatima, by making nature (the Sun) change its
course (Oct. 13, 1917). This actually brings to our mind,
the event of the passing over of the Jordan River by the
Israelites Joshua 3:15-17. The Scripture recorded that
immediately the priests carrying the Ark stepped into the
River, it divided into two. Our Mother Mary has the
potential to change the course of nature and to spiritually
nurture all her children who seek refuge in her
Immaculate Heart.
This tenth month is a month of encounter, a month of crossing over.
So in this blessed month of October and the subsequent months, we shall
encounter the richness of our God in the different events that underline our
personal life and our life as members of the Church. People may ask:
where can we encounter God? When can we encounter God? How can we
encounter God? And why do we need to encounter God in our seemingly
self-sufficient postmodern world where people can get whatever they want
and relate with whomever the wish?
To encounter God is still very imperative as it was for the men and
women whose faith profiles, spiritual journeys, and enriching stories filled
not only the pages of the Sacred Scripture but also the Church’s
hagiographical archives as seen in the story of Elijah, the conversion of St.
Paul, the repentance of St. Mary Magdalene and the confession of St.
Augustine. In these men and women, we appreciate that any encounter
with God remains memorable in one’s spiritual journey. In this graceful and
beautiful Marian month of October, we are humbly invited to bring our
individual stories of successes and failures; of joys and sorrows; blessings
and curses; health and sicknesses to the Lord. May we learn to allow the
Lord to accompany us in our fears and despondency as in the case of the
two disciples on the way to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35). This month of
October is also a gracious moment to touch the garment of Jesus (Mark 5:
28). It is a sublime opportunity for Jesus to touch us as He did in the case
of the daughter of Jarius when Jesus touched her and exclaimed “Talita
Kum” (Little girl I say to you get up) (Mark 5: 41).
In our Sacred Heart Parish, as we joyfully walk with Mary the Mother
of the Church Mater Ecclesiae during this month of October, the Lord is
offering us different opportunities to renew our strength and revive our
commitments as we participate in Respect Life Sunday (Oct 1st and 2nd);
Rosary Rally (Oct. 8th); pray for our dear heroes of faith who have gone
before us (Bereavement Mass Oct. 17th); Community Rosary (after the
7:30am Mass); and the Divine Mercy Chaplet (Mon—Fri at 3pm); Holy Hour
(every Thursday); Bible Study in Spanish (every Friday, except the first
Friday, at 7pm) and Bible Study in English (every Tuesday at 8:30am) and
much more.

Immaculee Ilibagiza (autora de Left to Tell, Led by Faith).
podemos encontrar a Dios? ¿Cómo podemos encontrar a Dios?
de éxitos y fracasos; de alegrías y tristezas; de bendiciones y maldiciones;
