November 7the is our next meeting held at St Frances X Cabrini Catholic Church 12687 California St, Yucaipa, Ca 92399. It will be held in Room 8 and will have signage to tell people where to go. Last week we wrote about the 5 most important characteristics of a Stephen Minister: Compassion, Full of Faith, Skilled, Trustworthy, and Christ Centered. These 5 Traits are emphasized in our training, throughout our service, and hopefully throughout our lives. All of us in the ministry are very aware that it is always Jesus who is the Leader, Power, and Healer of us ministers and our care receivers. Jesus is always the center of our Stephen Ministry: loving, giving, supporting, and molding us into the people and care givers He wants us to be. The 5 characteristics listed above make up one of the tools called The Care Giver’s Compass. It is a diagram of what it means to be a Stephen Minister, and like a compass it guides us in the path that will enable us to reach our goals. At the end of each weekly class, we consider ways in which what we learned this particular week relates to our 5 goals. It really is a guide that helps us spiritually as well as mentally and physically. One of the many prayers used by the Stephen Ministry is this, El martes 11 de octubre a las 6:00 de la tarde tendremos una sesión de entrenamiento para nuevos lectores en ESPAÑOL, invitamos a que se unan a este importante ministerio en nuestra parroquia. Help us to see others who are in need. We are your ears. Help us to listen to their cares and concerns. We are your hands and feet. Help us to reach out with a caring touch and walk with them during their time of need. We are your voice. Help us to speak your words of love and peace. Help us always to see your presence in each person we meet.” A Year of Mercy Bishop Gerald Barnes is featured in a new video series produced by the Dept. of Communications that is designed to help our Catholic faithful reflect on the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy during this Jubilee Year. The church takes this day to remember all those who have died and “gone before us marked with the sign of faith.” In faith, we believe that we remain united with our loved ones because the Kingdom of God is not bound by death.
