TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Habakkuk 1:2-3; 2:2-4
The prophet Habakkuk cries out despairingly to God
because of the state Jerusalem has fallen into. He asks
why God does nothing to stop the violence and misery.
God assures him that a time will come when only the just
and faithful will live.
Second Reading: 2 Timothy 1:6-8, 13-14
Paul writes to Timothy from prison and urges him to
continue to spread the gospel without fear or shame. He
also tells Timothy to draw upon the strength of the Holy
Spirit to help him face the hardships he will encounter
while preaching.
Gospel: Luke 17:5-10
The disciples ask Jesus to increase their faith. Jesus
replies that "faith the size of a mustard seed could
transplant a sycamore," indicating that a person either
has faith, strong and complete, or none at all. Jesus also
explains that a servant will not receive gratitude for
simply following his master's orders. In the same way,
we are all God's servants doing no more than our duty
when we obey God's commands.

Primera Lectura: Habacuc 1:2-3, 2:2-4
El profeta Habacuc se queja desesperadamente con
Dios por el estado en que ha caído Jerusalén. Le
pregunta a Dios por qué no hace nada para detener la
violencia y miseria. Dios le asegura que el momento
llegará cuando sólo los justos y fieles vivirán.
Segunda Lectura: 2 Timoteo 1:6-8, 13-14
Pablo le escribe a Timoteo desde la prisión y lo incita a
seguir divulgando el evangelio sin miedo ni vergüenza.
También le dice que saque fuerzas del Espíritu Santo
para que lo ayude a afrontar las dificultades que
encontrará al predicar.
Evangelio: San Lucas 17:5-10
Los discípulos le piden a Dios más fé. Jesús les dice
que “la fé del tamaño de una semilla de mostaza podría
transplantar una morera”, indicando que una persona
tiene fé que es fuerte y completa, o no la tiene. Jesús
explica que un sirviente no recibirá gratitud por
simplemente seguir las órdenes de su amo. Del mismo
modo, nosotros somos sirvientes de Dios llevando a
cabo nuestra obligación al obedecer sus mandamientos.

Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 2, 2016
“BELOVED. I remind you to stir into flame the gift of
God that you have through the imposition of my
hands. For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice
but rather of power and love and self control. So do
not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord, nor
of me, a prisoner for his sake, but bear your share of
hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes
from God…Guard that rich trust with the help of the
Holy Spirit that dwells within us…we have done what
we were obliged to do.”
Paul used an image of a fire to be stirred up, as when he
first laid hands on Timothy. The same gesture was used
the day we were baptized, and we too are to stir up that
flame, that ardor as a disciple of the Lord.
Remember the devastating forest fires last spring in
Alberta, Canada? An entire town eaten up by violent,
relentless flame. Wild fires in California came into our
homes as we watched the evening news. We can
almost hear the crackling flames and smell the burning
trees. The fire has power to kill, as we sadly see on
television, when homes are destroyed. But the flame of
faith gives life and cannot be extinguished.
Fire can give warmth and stimulate life. The fire of the
Holy Spirit becomes the driving force for us to live as His
witnesses. We are to guard what was entrusted to us,
but not as a dog protecting his bone, but as a disciple on
fire to bring Christ’s warmth and love to the world. Did
He not tell us He came to cast fire on the earth?;;
OCTOBER – MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY: We
begin a new month with Our Blessed Mother as part of
our focus. Friday is the feast of the Holy Rosary. We
encourage this prayer to be said at home each day.
During this month, every Saturday at 8:00 A.M. we invite
all to join us in this special devotion.
FIRST FRIDAY: Mass will be celebrated at 8 A.M. and
7 P.M. It is a special day of reparation for our own sins
and those of all humankind.
RCIA: A wonderful meeting last Tuesday in English.
Come, join in the formation of others in the faith. This
week RCIA in Spanish.
YEAR OF MERCY: Keep the date. Sunday October

30 our pilgrimage for the Year of Mercy. With parishes
from the deanery we will enter through the ‘Holy Door’ of
Most Sacred Heart Church in Wallington, designated as
one the places to pray and receive the FULL forgiveness
of sin. One hour of special grace and prayer. Sunday,

PARKING? Please be aware that there are two parking
lots for weekend masses – both on Passaic Street. The
first on the south side opposite Midland Avenue, next to
the railroad, the second just below the white house next
to the church. Use them to make it easy to get to mass
on time.

sister? If we do not show our concern for vocations,

ANOINTING OF THE SICK

Saturday, October 8 at 12 noon we will celebrate mass
and confer the sacrament of healing. Those who are
elderly, faxing surgery, or who are ill, are most welcome
to pray and receive the gift of this sacrament. If someone
needs transportation, please call the parish office.
REGISTERED IN THE PARISH? If not, we are unable
to write letters of reference and recommendation for
sponsorship, employment. Sign in today.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
SIGN THE ATTENDANCE BOOK
If you are a parent or guardian of a child in our Religious
Education Program, your signature is required that at the
end of the Mass you attend. The Mass attendance book
will be at the back left side. Make sure you do not leave
without signing.
Those that have not registered your children to be part of
the program please note that there will only be
registrations after twelve on Sunday.
PARENTS MEETING
The first Parents Meeting of the year will take place
Tuesday October 11 at 6PM in Church. Please plan to
attend.
SACRAMENT CANDIDATES
Sunday October 16, 2016 all families with children that
are going to receive sacraments this year will be
presenting their children at the 10:30am Mass in English

“Amados: Por eso les recomiendo que reaviven el
don de Dios que han recibido por la imposición de
mis manos. Porque el Espíritu que Dios nos ha
dado no es un espíritu de temor, sino de fortaleza,
de amor y de sobriedad. No se avergüencen del
testimonio de nuestro Señor, ni tampoco de mí, que
soy su prisionero. Al contrario, compartan conmigo
los sufrimientos que es necesario padecer por el
Evangelio, animados con la fortaleza de Dios…
Conserven lo que se les ha confiado, con la ayuda
del Espíritu Santo que habita en nosotros… no
hemos hecho más que cumplir con nuestro deber.”
San Pablo utiliza la imagen de un fuego que se atiza,
como cuando impuso sus manos sobre Timoteo por
primera vez. El mismo gesto se usó el día de nuestro
bautizo, y nosotros debemos también atizar esa llama,
la pasión de ser discípulos del Señor.
¿Recuerda los devastadores fuegos forestales de la
última primavera en Alberta, Canadá? Una población
entera devorada por una violenta e implacable llama.
También pudimos ver en las noticias como el fuego
devastó hogares en California. Prácticamente podemos
escuchar el crujir de las llamas y oler los árboles que se
queman.
El fuego tiene poder para matar, como
tristemente vemos en la televisión cuando destruye
casas. La llama de la fe en cambio da vida y no puede
extinguirse.
El fuego puede dar calor y estimular vida. El fuego del
Espíritu Santo se convierte en una fuerza que nos
impulsa a vivir como Sus testigos. Debemos conservar
lo que se nos ha confiado, pero no como un perro que
protege su hueso, sino como un discípulo lleno del calor
del fuego de Cristo con amor al mundo. ¿No nos dijo El
que había venido a prender fuego al mundo?
OCTUBRE MES DEL SANTO ROSARIO:
Comenzamos un nuevo mes con Nuestra Madre como
parte de nuestro enfoque. El viernes es la fiesta del
Santo Rosario. Animamos a esta oración a decirla en
casa todos los días. Durante este mes, los sábados a
las 8 a.m. invitamos a todos a unirse a nosotros en este
culto especial.
PRIMER VIERNES: misa será celebrada a las 8 a.m. y
7:00 Es un día especial de reparación por nuestros
propios pecados y los de toda la humanidad.
RICA: Una maravillosa reunión el pasado martes en
Inglés. Ven y únete a la formación de otros en la fe. Esta
semana en español.
¿ESTACIONAMIENTO? Por favor, tenga en cuenta que
hay dos lugares para estacionarse para las misas de fin
de semana - tanto en la calle Passaic. La primera en el
lado opuesto al sur de Midland Avenue, junto a la vía
férrea, el segundo justo debajo de la casa blanca al lado
de la iglesia. Utilizarlos para hacer más fácil para llegar
a la misa a tiempo.

Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón en Wallington, designado
como uno de los lugares para orar y recibir el perdón de
los pecado. A una hora de gracia y de oración especial.

estacionamiento detrás de la iglesia a las 3:30.)
EN SU CARIDAD: por favor, ore por todos los que están
enfermos, en hospitales, rehabilitación o en el hogar y
sus cuidadores. Por favor incluya Joan Garrigan, Edna y

nuestra oración para entrar en la gloria de Dios en la
actualidad..
¿PREGUNTA? ¿Dijiste una oración por los sacerdotes,
que otros pueden considerar la vocación al sacerdocio?
¿Le pidió a alguien acerca de ser un sacerdote o
religiosa? Si no mostramos nuestra preocupación por
las vocaciones, ¿dónde está nuestro futuro?
EDUCACION RELIGIOSA
FIRME EL LIBRO DE ASISTENCIA
Los padres que tienen niños en el catecismo se les
requiere firmar al final de la Misa, el libro de Asistencia.
El libro de Asistencia a Misa se encuentra a la parte de
atrás al lado Izquierdo. Asegúrese de firmar antes de
irse.
Aquellos que aun no han matriculado a sus hijos en el
catecismo favor de notar que solo habrá matriculas
después de las 12M el domingo.
REUNIÓN DE PADRES
La primera y más importante reunión de padres de este
año tendrá lugar el domingo 9 de octubre a las 10:00am
en el Salón Parroquial. Su asistencia es indispensable.
