D ear friends in Sacred Heart:
Welcome to our Families from Sacred Heart School! Remember you are always welcome to
celebrate our faith and praise the Lord every Sunday in Sacred Heart! You are important for us!
And without you our community is not the same.
Today we are giving the Catechetical Blessings to our Teachers in Sacred Heart School and to
our group of Catechists helping our CCD program. Thank you so much for their dedication, may
the Lord give you wisdom and strength to fulfill your mission in this year!
I invite you to participate in our Parish Pilgrimage on October 29th. We will walk through the
Holy Door, and celebrate the Mass in Holy Name Cathedral at 10:30 am. This is a life time experience. Do not miss this
opportunity! Sacred Heart will have a Coach Bus to provide the round trip transportation Parish-Holy Name CathedralParish for just $35 per person. Please reserve your seat before October 2nd.
Last weekend we had our second training session for all the Altar Servers! We have 37 Altar Servers for this year.
Please keep them in your prayers. This is a huge responsibility for them and they need the support and commitment from
their parents as well. So if your children are part of our AMAZING group, please help him /her to be responsible, arriving
on time when they have to serve. If they are not serving at Mass, they have to attend Mass anyway! It is not vacation for
them. Parents and Altar Servers must attend at their regular Sunday Mass. Please DO NOT SKIP SUNDAYS!
It has been around 4 months since the “To Teach who Christ Is” campaign finished the pulpit announcements. Thank
you so much for all the families supporting the campaign during this time; over $15,000 has been collected so far.
Please don’t forget to submit your donation! We will start soon with our first project. You will receive more information soon.
If you haven’t pledged to our Campaign, you can still do it! Please talk to me and I will explain to you the different
ways you can submit your pledge. Remember it is a 5 year commitment but you can cover your pledge at your convenience. If you prefer, you can submit your pledge “on line” as well!

“The tragic situation faced by our Christian brothers and

1. Do you know someone who is interested
in becoming a Catholic, or are you?
2. Are you a Catholic who was baptized but did not receive
any further catechesis, or the initiation sacraments of Confirmation, First Holy Communion, or Confession?
3. Are you a Catholic who would like to “brush-up” on your

If the answer to any of the above questions is “YES”, then
RCIA is meant for you or the one you know! The acronym
RCIA stands for the Rite of Catholic (Christian) Initiation of

praying & welcoming new members to God & the Church.
Our Parish RCIA Program will begin October 12th, 2016 &

7pm. The Rites will be at Easter Vigil Mass, Saturday, April

Is God Calling You?
The call of the Holy Spirit to consider a vocation may
sometimes be a gentle voice stirring the soul or a personal
longing in our hearts. It may be the urging of friends or
spouses. It can also find birth in the invitation of the pastors, deacons and parish leaders to pursue such an inquiry.
No matter the source of our questions, each of us needs to
be affirmed and encouraged to bring a call to a vocation
to prayerful discernment.
The Institute for Diaconal Studies invites all men who
feel the gentle nudge of the Holy Spirit to attend an Exploring the Diaconate session. It is a time to pray, discuss,
and learn more about the discernment process and the
formation program that aspirants and candidates pursue.
Please join us, with your wives, if married, as we explore the potential of a vocation, engage in dialogue and
pray in search of the next step. Visit usml.edu for dates.

September 2016
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Last year, in speaking to a conference in Rome, Pope Francis reminded the participants that “the vocation
to the priesthood is a gift that God gives to some for the good of all.” This weekend as we celebrate and pray for
our own seminarians in the Archdiocese of Chicago, I ask you once again for your financial support of them.
We currently have sixty-seven seminarians preparing for a life of service as your future pastors. Their motivation and enthusiasm for serving in the Church through a life-long commitment is inspiring to us all, promoting
us to offer in return our prayers, fraternal encouragement and financial support. Many of you have personally told
me how much you enjoy meeting our seminarians whenever they visit parishes and I know you come away from
those experiences with a renewed sense of hope for the future.
We in turn as a community need to stand with them during their years of preparation and for this reason I
invite you to join with me in making this year’s seminarian collection a great success. Contributions made to this
collection alleviate monthly expenses such as tuition and fees ($1,850), room and board ($950), formation programs ($250), and health insurance ($190) for each seminarian and will be used solely for the formation of new
priests for the Archdiocese of Chicago. You may make a one-time donation no less than your weekly contribution
to your parish, or establish a monthly contribution to the collection. Your gift, whatever the amount, will have a
great impact on our seminarians, as they see first-hand your willingness to stand in solidarity with them.
During the Renew My Church consultation, one of the top priorities identified was the need to promote vocations to the priesthood. We are doing everything possible in this regard, but I do need your support through
prayer and donations to the seminarian collection.
Thank you for your commitment to our seminarians. You can rely on me joining you in prayer for them as
well as my remembrance of your needs as I thank God for your many gifts.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Blase J. Cupich
Archbishop of Chicago
nosotros, animándonos a ofrecer a cambio nuestras oraciones, nuestro estímulo fraterno y nuestro apoyo financiero.
