Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe - November 23, 2014
Dear Parishioners,
This weekend we celebrate the final Sunday of the Season of Ordinary Time with the
celebration of the Solemnity of Christ the King. Pope Pius XI instituted this feast in
1925 for the universal Church in his encyclical Quas Primas. He noted an increasing
denial of Jesus and connected this lack of faith to the rise of secularism. At the time
of Quas Primas, many Christians began to doubt Christ's authority and existence, as
well as the Church’s authority. The Feast of Christ the King was instituted during a
time when respect for Christ and the Church was diminishing and when the proclamation ‘Christ is King’
needed to be heard around the world.
In his encyclical, Pius XI wrote; “Men must look for the peace of Christ in the Kingdom of Christ; and
that We promised to do as far as lay in Our power. In the Kingdom of Christ, that is, it seemed to Us that
peace could not be more effectually restored nor fixed upon a firmer basis than through the restoration of
the Empire of Our Lord. We were led in the meantime to indulge the hope of a brighter future at the sight
of a more widespread and keener interest evinced in Christ and his Church, the one Source of Salvation ...” What Pope Pius XI wrote nearly 100 years ago is as true today as it was then; only on the firm
foundation of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom that He was sent to establish will we discover the hope, peace
and security that we desire. Christ was sent to proclaim that the Kingdom of God was at hand, a Kingdom
based upon forgiveness, mercy, reconciliation and above all, love. It is an everlasting Kingdom, a part of
which we can begin to experience today and will ultimately be fully realized when Jesus comes again at
the end of time. Today we celebrate the fact that Christ is King and Lord and that his Kingdom extends
from each or our hearts to the ends of the world.

Este fin de semana concluimos el año litúrgico con la celebración de la solemnidad de Cristo Rey, Rey deuniverso. La fiesta de Cristo Rey fue instaurada por el Papa Pío XI el 11 de diciembre de 1925. El Papa
quiso motivar a los católicos a reconocer en público que el mandatario de la Iglesia es Cristo Rey. Durante
el anuncio del Reino, Jesús nos muestra lo que éste significa para nosotros como Salvación, Revelación y
Reconciliación ante la mentira mortal del pecado que existe en el mundo. Jesús responde a Pilatos cuando
le pregunta si en verdad Él es el Rey de los judíos: "Mi Reino no es de este mundo. Si mi Reino fuera de
este mundo mi gente habría combatido para que no fuese entregado a los judíos; pero mi Reino no es de
aquí" (Jn 18:36). Jesús no es el Rey de un mundo de miedo, mentira y pecado, Él es el Rey del Reino de
Dios que trae y al que nos conduce.
Creemos que Jesus fue enviado al mundo para iniciar el reinado de Dios y todavía ya podemos
experimentarlo en el presente y lo llegará plenamente cuando el Señor volverá para su secunda venida.
Hoy, celebramos el gran hecho que Jesus es nuestro Rey personal, el Rey de nuestros corazones y también
Rey del mundo y el pues todo del universo.

Everyone is welcome in the chapel, any
hour of any day, to spend time in prayer
and Adoration of the Lord.
Please make some time to visit your chapel,

of knowing that Jesus is always there for you. He’s
waiting to spend time with us. The chapel is open at all
times for any of us to visit.

Your pre-made sandwiches
are very much appreciated but if you’re unable to
make sandwiches, donations of sandwich fixings are
also welcome.
Any kind of canned food and breakfast cereal works
well and is very much needed. Monetary donations
help with purchasing food items. Men and women’s
clothing are needed and the women’s clothing is exchanged with a women’s shelter.
Please bring donations the first Friday of every
month between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. The truck
leaves promptly at 9:00 a.m. Thank you for your

A generous amount of food was donated by school
families, faith formation families and parishioners via
the baskets in the vestibules, along with various food
drives. The Catholic Daughters collected donations and
purchased gifts to accompany our Christmas baskets.
The Knights of Columbus Council 9605 generously repaired the pantry roof.
St. Pius X Conference assisted 2,802 people during this
reporting period. Your St. Vincent de Paul Conference
is grateful to all those who participated in these works
of charity and mercy.

Special Visitors: On November 6, two Religious Sisters of
Mercy, Srs. Maria and Mary Daniela, visited our classrooms
and talked with students about Religious life. They shared
wonderful stories with all our students and in turn, the kids
were very interested and asked excellent questions.
Religious Sisters take vows of poverty, chastity, obedience
and service. To fulfill these vows to the Church, the Sisters
have additional professional formation in higher levels of
study or doctoral programs. The apostolate was founded
upon the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy in professional disciplines which include physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, canon lawyers, school teachers, college
and seminary professors and other related professional fields.
The Religious Sisters of Mercy of Alma, MI are located in
convents all over the world.
Auction Update: The school auction committee is currently
procuring items for the February 21st gala auction entitled,
“A Night at the Oscars” If you would like to donate, please
contact the main school office, (425) 778-9861. Thank you!
Scrip: Holidays are coming! Please remember Scrip is
available during the day in the school office and on Sundays
after the Masses. Gift cards make excellent gifts that please
everyone and the school receives an average of 5% to 10% of
the gift card amount. A Win-Win for everyone! Many

Scrumptious Baked Goods Coming Your Way
The 7th and 8th grade St. Pius X school kids are raising
funds to go to Washington DC! To that end, bake sales
will be held on the following dates right after Mass.
THIS SUNDAY! November 23rd. Look for the kids
again on December 7th and again on the 21st (just in time
for Christmas parties)
The last weekend for these sales will be January 4th.
