Carlos Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This month of June represents for the Church the month of the Sacred Heart and in that context I think it is important to review our prayer life. I want to share with you a traditional way of prayer. It is easy to follow. The name is centering prayer. What is Centering Prayer? Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Centering Prayer is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer. Rather, it adds depth of meaning to all prayer and facilitates the movement from more active modes of verbal prayer into a receptive prayer of resting in God. Centering Prayer emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God and as a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Christ. The source of Centering Prayer, as in all methods leading to contemplative prayer, is the Indwelling Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The focus of Centering Prayer is the deepening of our relationship with the living Christ. The effects of Centering Prayer are ecclesial, as the prayer tends to build communities of faith and bond the members together in mutual friendship and love. POPE’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR JUNE Universal: That the aged, marginalized, and those who have no one may find–even within the huge cities of the world–opportunities for encounter and solidarity. Evangelization: That seminarians and men and women entering religious life may have mentors who live the joy of the Gospel and prepare them wisely for their mission. FAREWELL MESSAGE FROM MSGR. JENNNETT My Dear Parishioners of Sacred Heart Church, Please accept my gratitude for you kind and warm welcome in response to my service as your administrator pro tempore. With Fr. LIVING GOD’S WORD Is there someone in your family or circle of friends who has seemed “down in the dumps” lately? Try to find an opportunity to offer a kind word this week. This may not be a miraculous gesture in your eyes, but could be in the other person’s eyes. Copyright © 2012, World Library Publications. All rights reserved. YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE On Friday, June 10th Sacred Heart School is having a graduation Mass at 7 PM. Due to this the Blessed Sacrament will NOT be exposed following the 5:30PM Mass and there will be no Holy Hour nor Confessions Friday evening. June 5, 2016 Page 3 Youth Ministry News One thing that is becoming a big part of our Church is teens stepping forward to things like being a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and especially stepping up to be a part of our core team. Every year we give our teens an opportunity to join our team and help lead our teens closer to Christ. Usually, its 2-4 people a year who apply and get on the team but this year we have 11 new core team members! Our leadership team is something that we take very seriously. So much that we will be spending the summer working with our entire core team, new and old, and training them how to be leaders with our teens. Just to give you an idea of what our team does, they are here at least twice a week for Lifenights and classes. When they are here there is always at minimum a small group leader and help to set up and clean up the night. On top of that they lead activities, give witness talks, give teachings sometimes, plan retreats, and they do all of this with the general well-being of our teens in mind. They work tirelessly to help make our program as amazing as it is. In addition of what they do in our program most of them are lectors and Eucharistic Ministers or in our teens choir. Our leaders do a lot for this parish and I thank God for them every day because without them, this youth ministry would not be as successful as it has become. SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN DID YOU KNOW? Increase self-esteem through praise Praise is just as important as providing food and shelter for a child. Praise is an important aspect of raising a confident child. When you praise a child, not only do you raise their self-esteem and self-concept but you increase their overall self-worth. One thing you can do is focus on the child and describe what you see. For example, you can say: “You are so patient. That means a lot to your little brother.” For more tips on praising children please email [email protected] or call (213) 637-7227. Sacred Heart School News [email protected] Remember Dads and Grads with gift cards from the Sacred Heart School scrip office. We offer many of the same gift cards you can buy in the supermarket and the school makes a profit! You can place an order anytime by phone or email. The scrip office will be CLOSED July 1 - July 31. Thank you for supporting Sacred Heart School! 647-0713, [email protected] We are looking for a round (conference) table for the front office in the Ministry Office Building. Preferred diameter of table between 36” - 40” Chairs would be appreciated but definitely not required for our purposes. Please contact the parish office at (805) 647-3235 Ext. 300 or 301. FATHER’S DAY NOVENA ENVELOPES Father’s Day Novena envelopes will be available next weekend. RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you” (Jer 1:5; cf Job 10:8-12; Ps 22:10-11). Stewardship: “it’s a way of life!” “How can I make a return to the Lord for all the good things He has given me?” ~ Ps 116 Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 4 EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Every Friday Friday 9 a.m. — Saturday 8:30 a.m. Pope John Paul II exhorted us: “I repeat my invitation to make adoration of the Blessed Sacrament a habitual practice in all Christian communities. In this crucible of the ‘love of loves’ will be forged the apostolic spirit of Lay Christians. In the intimacy of the tabernacle, the values that must reign in homes will receive new strength, to make the family a meeting place with God, a center that radiates faith, a school of Christian life”. (Fr. Tom Forrest, CSSR) We need adorers on Saturday at 2AM. Please call Lupe 676-1159. There is NO Holy Hour this week due to Sacred Heart School graduation. WORDS OF WISDOM… “Life becomes easier when you learn to accept an apology you never got.” ~ Robert Brault June 5, 2016 Page 5 MISA DEL MEDIODÍA, 12 P.M.
