be requesting some details that will help determine the need for a clerical
visit or assistance through a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound. The
bulletin listing of the sick will be grouped bi-weekly so that we all can be
aware of those newly added to the listing. The bulletin will maintain the
listings for three months unless otherwise specified to be listed
indefinitely. After three months names can be added once again if not

REFLECTION
THE MOST HOLY TRINITY
"The Spirit of truth... will take from what is mine and declare it to you."
Jesus says in today's Gospel that the Spirit declares something to US.
We actually have a kind of share in the blessed life of the Trinity
through this spiritual declaration. In particular, God gives us the gift of
his truth. Traditionally, we say that God--the Blessed Trinity--is the
source of all truth, beauty, and goodness. Today's reading reminds us
that truth exists, that it comes from God, and that we can know it, hear
it, and live according to it. "But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he
will guide you to all truth."
This is so important to remember in today's cultural climate. These days,
the very idea of truth is a touchy subject. Because there is so much focus
on tolerance and not offending anyone, we tend to shy away from discussions about "absolute" truth. Instead, we hear a lot of talk about
"what's true for me" or "what's true for you." Too often we get confused
about how to respect others' differing beliefs while still maintaining our
own. Instead of embracing the fact that there is real truth--like, for example, the truth that God became man and was born of Mary--it is more
popular to refer to "beliefs" and "traditions" and "practices," emphasizing that these things differ among people. Yes, those things differ. But
truth does not change. Either Jesus is God, or he isn't. Either his claims
were true or they weren't. It's not a matter of personal opinion.
The Holy Spirit helps to convince us of what is really right. But we
needn't fear that this will lead us to be intolerant. It is this same Spirit
within us that brings the fruits of love, peace, patience, kindness, and
generosity.

Memorial Day: Why are human beings willing to fight and die
for freedom? As Americans, this Memorial Day please remember those who died in the service of our country. But as Catholic
Americans, we should also reflect on the meaning of true freedom and thank God for the Church which proclaims the way to
the fullness of that freedom. One reason why we are willing to
fight and die for freedom is because the need for freedom is imprinted into our very nature. True freedom is much deeper than
being able to do what we want. Freedom directs us toward truth.
The Church teaches us that to understand freedom we need to
consider both our nature and the very purpose of our humanity.
God instilled this purpose within us, so that we would seek Him,
for He is truth. Seeking and finding truth, we are obligated to live
it to the best of our ability. We cannot satisfy this obligation unless we are free. This Memorial Day we should remember those
who died in the service of our country but we should also remember our Church, who has defended the dignity and freedom
of the human person for over two-thousand years.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS
Elementary Sunday L.I.F.E. (Living In Faith Everyday)
The last Elementary L.I.F.E. sessions is today. It has been a Wonderful
year with your children. The children have learned so much about the
Seven Sacraments, the parts of the Mass, different kinds of prayers, the
Bible, the Trinity and so much more. Parents it is on your shoulders to
continue these teaching, continue teaching them the prayers and to sign
your children up for next year. Sign-ups for next year are July 9th and
10th and July 23rd and 24th after all the Masses. Have a Great and Safe
Summer and see you this Fall.
“Barnyard Roundup” FREE Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Registration is OPEN!! Go to http://staugustineparish.net to fill out
the registration form. VBS is June 20th—24th from 9am—12:15pm.
The children will be Moovin' and Groovin' to some great music and the
they will learn that Jesus is better than a BFF! Jesus, their Savior, knows
them by name, rounds them up, and brings them home. He is with them
always and forever- no matter what! There is limited space so Sign-up
NOW!!!
We need a LOT of help on the farm. There is a volunteer form on the
website or you can contact Fran Kuzma in the office to help, ext. 1120 or

Children’s Liturgy “We need your help!” We now need many people
to help with this very rewarding Ministry. It is a once a month commitment. You work in pairs and you do not have to go to another Mass.
Training is provided and is very easy. Parents, teens, young adults why
not go out with the children and see how easy it really is to share the
Word with our children of St. Augustine. Contact Fran Kuzma ext. 1120

EDGE/LIFETEEN
This week’s session concluded our semester on spiritual warfare. We
talked about evangelization, and how sharing our faith comes from the
hope and joy we find in Christ. We ended the night celebrating Mass
with our Pastor, Fr. Marlon. Our final session will be held on Monday,
May, 23rd.
Graduating High School Seniors!
Congratulations to you as you complete your final year of High School.
Our Senior Mass will be celebrated Sunday, June 5th, at the 11:15 am
Mass followed by our Annual Parish Picnic. You are invited to wear your

We are seeking a full-time Coordinator of Facilities Maintenance
Candidates should be able to perform minor plumbing, hardware, painting and
electrical repair. Candidates must have mechanical aptitude, excellent interpersonal skills, be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and be able to climb up to a 14 ft. ladder. Duties also include setup and tear down of parish hall and overseeing
ground and cleaning services. A general working knowledge of the construction trade is required. Preferably the candidate will be able to communicate in

Women's Guild Plant Sale
A great big "thank you" to the Women's Guild for a very successful
Spring Plant Sale. This netted a profit of $1538.24 which is donated to
the Church. Many thanks to all who supported this wonderful event.
The “SASSY” Bunch, St. Augustine Seniors Staying Young, will meet
on Thursday, May 26th at 11:00am under the covered walkway at the
church. We will car pool to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts for
lunch, then walk over to the Virginia Historical Society for our tour.
Admission is free and is wheelchair accessible. Any questions, please

BUILDING AND FACILITY
We now have two gracious volunteers Mike Coston and German
Badilla who have come forward to monitor the halls and secure our
facility Monday through Thursday evenings. Thank you! We are still in
need of more volunteers. Please contact the Business office for more
information.
OUR ANNUAL PICNIC is on June 5, 2016. Our theme
will be “Throw back 1950”. Tickets may be purchased
after each mass and at the office.
A COMMUNITY EVENT– The St. Augustine Hispanic Festival will take place from August 11
through August 14th. New food offerings, carnival rides,
cultural displays, dances and vendors will be here!
Volunteers are needed for both events. Your participation,
ideas and help is very much needed to pull this off!

SAVE THE DATE....BIG STONE GAP clothing drive will be June
25th and 26th. Start cleaning your closets and packing those
boxes. Clothing for boys sizes 0-14 is a special need this year. Sheets
and towels are also welcomed. Please label boxes, for example: boys
summer. Since the closing of coal mines, many of these people have no
jobs and their needs are great!!!! Let’s make this the largest truck load
of clothes we have ever sent to our neighbors. Questions call Betty

Part-time Furniture Set up/Take down position
We are in need of a person to set up table and chairs as well as take
down and put away furniture for St. Augustine Church’s committees,
groups and events as needed. This position is hourly and he/she will
work closely with the Parish life coordinator and be familiar with all

La última sesión de VIDA es hoy. Hemos pasado un año maravilloso con

el candidato utilizará modelos nacionales y diocesanos de catequesis intercultural para fortalecer los programas de la parroquia
para atender a las necesidades únicas de esta
comunidad . El
candidato deberá ser bilingüe, hablando inglés y español con fluidez.
Excelentes cualidades de liderazgo, fuertes habilidades de comunicación, la competencia en los medios de comunicación social y
tecnología, y la capacidad de coordinar, capacitar y empoderar a los
voluntarios son esenciales para la posición. El solicitante debe ser un
católico practicante. Una licenciatura en teología, educación religiosa o un campo relacionado o un certificado en el ministerio pastoral
es óptimo. Se prestará atención a un solicitante que está trabajando
en tal grado o tiene una experiencia equivalente. El coordinador
debe ser capaz de trabajar en colaboración con otro personal de la
parroquia, del clero y de los voluntarios y trabajar directamente con
el Pastor para dar forma al programa de educación religiosa.
Estamos buscando un coordinador a tiempo completo de
mantenimiento de la parroquia
Los candidatos deberán ser capaces de hacer trabajos menores de
plomería, ferretería, pintura y reparación eléctrica. Los candidatos
deben tener aptitud mecánica, excelentes habilidades interpersonales, ser capaz de levantar hasta 50 libras y ser capaz de subir una
escalera de 14 pies. Otras obligaciones también incluyen arreglar y
desarmar las mesas en el Salón Parroquial y supervisión del jardín y
servicios de limpieza. Un conocimiento general de la industria de la
construcción es necesaria. Sería preferable que el candidato sea capaz de comunicarse en inglés y en español.

Felicidades por completar su último año de la Preparatoria.
Nuestra gran Misa en honor de los graduados se celebrará
el domingo 5 de junio a las 11:15 am.
Usted está invitado a llevar su vestimento de graduación para la
Liturgia. Llamar a Angy a la oficina antes del 30 de mayo si
usted estará participando.
Guarde la fecha....Colecta de ropa para BIG STONE GAP será el
25 y 26 de junio. Inicie la limpieza de sus armarios y empaquete
las cajas de ropa. La necesidad especial este año es ropa para niños
(tamaños 0-14). Sábanas y toallas también son bienvenidos. Ponga una etiqueta en la caja; por ejemplo: boys summer. Desde el
cierre de las minas de carbón, muchas de estas personas no tienen
puestos de trabajo y sus necesidades son grandes!!!! Hagamos de
esta la mayor carga de camión de ropa que hemos enviado a nuestros vecinos. Preguntas, favor de llamar a la oficina parroquial.

La venta de desayuno para ayudar a los pobres (Poor Box Breakfast) se celebra cada tercer domingo. A medida que vaya conociendo al Padre Marlon, el desea tener la oportunidad de hablar
con ustedes brevemente al final del desayuno, por un corto periodo de tiempo. Para facilitar esta discusión, el Padre los invita a
someter preguntas o temas que usted le gustaría que él y el personal conteste. Puedes hacer esto mandando un correo electrónico a

REFLEXIONES
La Santísima Trinidad
Con la solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad entramos a la segunda parte, la más grande, del tiempo ordinario. Pero antes de
entrar a la normalidad de la liturgia del tiempo ordinario hay este
domingo dedicado a la Santísima Trinidad. El concepto de la
Trinidad es un misterio muy difícil de descifrar, pero la fe nos
ayuda a comprender su dinamismo salvador. Para hablar de la
Trinidad debemos de comenzar tomando la figura de Jesucristo.
Y tal como sus discípulos lo vivieron en su tiempo al escuchar
las enseñanzas de Jesús basadas en Dios Padre y Dios Espíritu
Santo, es que podremos por lo menos ver y maravillarnos la
grandeza del misterio de Dios.
Comenzamos la Eucaristía, en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y
del Espíritu Santo, lo mismo hacemos en casa al dar la bendición
a nuestros hijos, al bendecir los alimentos y al comenzar nuestras
labores diarias. ¿Somos conscientes al santiguarnos que afirmamos nuestra fe en la Trinidad? ¿Lo hacemos solo por costumbre?
¿Tú cuándo te santiguas? Al santiguarnos, debemos saber que
este sencillo acto de fe en la Santísima Trinidad nos compromete
no solo a creer en ella sino que debemos vivir de acuerdo a lo
enseñado por Jesucristo. Las lecturas de hoy nos explican de
diferente manera la perspectiva trinitaria: "Por mediación de
nuestro Señor Jesucristo" (Rom 5, 1). Porque "Dios ha infundido
su amor en nuestros corazones por medio del Espíritu Santo, que
él mismo nos ha dado" (Rom 5, 5). ¡Gloria a Dios Padre, a Dios
Hijo y a Dios Espíritu Santo! Como era en el principio, ahora y
siempre, por los siglos de los siglos, amén.
