THE GIFT OF THE HOLY TRINITY “Everything that the Father has is mine; … [the Spirit] will take from what is mine and declare it to you.” John 16:12-15 My neighbor shared that she got a porch swing for Mother’s Day one year. “Oh,” I said, “That’s a great gift. Your husband really knows how to shop for you.” She replied, “Only because I told him exactly what I wanted. I picked it out; he picked it up.” Is anyone else envious of her? Sure, it loses the element of surprise, but it’s quite nice to receive exactly what you asked for. We can spend Most Holy Trinity Sunday meditating on the mystery of the Trinitarian nature of God, but today’s readings also remind us to reflect on the incredible gift of the Trinity. It’s exactly what we asked for – even though we wouldn’t have known to ask for such a gift. We experience the creative power of the Father in the Proverbs reading. All the universe’s beauty, all the details of nature, all artistic inspirations find their source in the Father. What a most desired gift! We experience the redeeming power of the Son, who took on our human nature as His own. He knows our struggles and joys and He calls us to leave behind our sins and follow His example. His love to the end redeems our brokenness and has given us hope which, as St. Paul declares, “Does not disappoint.” We experience the sanctifying power of the Spirit, who sustains us daily with the love of the Father and Son. We can choose rightly, live justly, and act lovingly because of the Spirit’s guidance in every moment. What a gift indeed. What a God we have. We are, among all people, so richly blessed. Questions for Reflection: What have I asked God for? What do I hope the Trinity offers? How do I reflect and manifest the loving unity of the Trinity? THE MOST HOLY TRINITY From the Servant’s Heart PAGE 3 Slow Down, You Cross Too Fast! Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. It is a very important and sacred feast we celebrate that reminds us of the three persons in one God: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God the Father whom we call our Creator. God the Son, Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. God the Holy Spirit, the Sanctifier. We profess our faith in the Holy Trinity when we make the Sign of the Cross. Today, I would like to encourage us to slow down in performing this sacred act. When you do mark yourself with Holy Cross, please do it in a very prayerful way. It is a simple yet profound expression of our love and gratitude and faith in our loving Father who is the Author of all creation, the Son Jesus who came to visit us and laid down His life to save us and the Holy Spirit who has kept Holy Mother Church standing and thriving since its foundation 20 centuries ago. After all, why the rush? the time to read our bulletin. I really appreciate it. We owe it all to Erika Sanchez, our bulletin editor. Thank you so much and way to go, Erika! Keep it up. Thank You for Walking the Talk I would like to thank all of you who are participating in the Crop Walk. Thank you for your financial support and food donations. This is exactly what a “life -giving faith” is all about, giving life to others especially the poor. Thank you to Juan Leon and his family, Adela, Christian, Matthew, Adan and Jaden for assisting us in recruiting and registration. Thanks to all the members of the Pastoral Council who helped promote this event. We really appreciate your effort and leadership. Please Don’t Wait Or It’s too Late If you or a family member or friend are ever sick, we would love to serve you with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. This is a very powerful sacrament where the sick person is anointed with the Holy Oil for the Sick. This oil was consecrated by our Archbishop Jose Gomez last Holy Monday of this year. The sick is anointed on the forehead and hands. The patient is also invited to make the Sacrament of Reconciliation since God’s forgiveness greatly helps in the person’s healing. The sick person is also offered Holy Communion who is Jesus the Healer. Please remember that the Sacrament of Anointing is not only for people who are at the point of death. Please don’t wait for the last hour. As soon as possible, please call the priest. As much as possible, call the office at daytime. We very much appreciate you not making the priest get up at 3 am. Some people are scared to call the priest for anointing. The Sacrament of Anointing is all about healing, not death. Please don’t keep putting it off until the last minute. There’s nothing to lose and so much to gain. A Mass for our Deacon Couples This Holy Trinity Sunday, we thank God for our wonderful couples who are in the diaconate program, Victor and Lulu Ceja and John and Irma Saavedra. The Cejas are on their third year in formation and the Saavedras are on their first year. We thank them for responding to God’s call for them to serve our community as future deacons. Their diaconate formation is not easy. They need our prayers and support. That is why we would like to pray for them and bless them and thank God with them at the 9:30 am Mass. We also thank our deacon couples, Dn. Charles and Olivia Denisac and Dn. Carlos and Betty Origel who have inspired and mentored the Cejas and the Saavedras. Thanks also to Fr. Mark Warnstedt, our former pastor, whose approval and support were vital for these two couples to begin their formation. Please keep them in your prayers that they will persevere. Read and Lead How many of us today still read? If we want to lead, we must read. We cannot give what we don’t have. As Stephen Covey, author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People said: “Sharpen the Saw.” And how many of us still read the bulletin? Don’t worry you’re not alone. I for one am guilty of that…sometimes. I’m surprised when people comment to me about something in the bulletin whether it’s something positive or negative. That means there are still some people who take the time to read it! Whoa! This is all I want to say: Thank you so very much for taking Thank you for your Financial Support! I hope you will never get tired of me thanking you for your financial support for our parish. It really means a lot to our church. We, as a People of God, cannot continue God’s work without your generosity. Besides the Holy Spirit, it’s because of each of you who has never wavered in your support of our church in spite of the changes we encountered. Your response to the transition certainly defines the kind of faith and character you have as a Catholic and as a parishioner of our beautiful church OLPH. Indeed, “A Church with the Heart”…regardless of the weather. It’s about our sacred duty to support, serve and to give back to God. Prayers for Adelaida Siemann Please pray for our dear Adelaida Siemann. She is the beloved wife of Ron Siemann who faithfully serves us in the weekday Mass. He also serves as an antiphonarian in the Morning Prayers, prepares what we need for the Mass and has been our altar server in funeral Masses. That’s a lot of love, support, and service for OLPH. His wife, Adelaida, suffered a mild stroke a couple of weeks ago. Please remember her in the Masses you attend and in the rosaries you pray. Thank you so much. Please get well soon, Adelaida. Of course, we also pray for Ron for strength and guidance in taking care of his wife and also for his good health so that he will always be with us in our community services. Thank you so very much, Ron and Adelaida! “There’s no limit to what you can achieve if you don’t mind who gets the credit.” (From the diary of Father Strickland, SJ, 1863) “ LPH with a HEART” Fr. "Entschuldigung, koennen Sie Deutsch sprechen?" he asks. The two guys just stare at him. "Excusez-moi, parlez vous Francais?" he tries. The two continue to stare. "Parlare Italiano?" No response. "Hablan ustedes Espanol?" Still nothing. The Swiss guy drives off, extremely disgusted. The first guy turns to the second and says, "Y' know, maybe we should learn a foreign language." "Why?" says the other. "That guy knew four languages, and it didn't do him any good." 22 DE MAYO 2016 PÁGINA 6 MINISTERIO HISPANO Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo, Vi esta reflexión en Bringing Home the Word publicada por Ligouri Publications y quiero compartirla con ustedes.
