LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Parishioners,
“God from God, light from light” In today's world, we tend to think
little of the subtle theological distinctions that we find in the
Nicene Creed we pray every Sunday. To the modern, practical
mind, they seem too theoretical. But we should remember that in
past ages the Church defended these truths with her blood. In
the first period of Church history, our biggest enemy was the
Roman Empire, which for three hundred years tried to extinguish
Christianity by wave after wave of violent persecution. But we
survived that attack, and eventually Catholicism became the
Empire's dominant religion. When that happened, our biggest
enemy changed. Instead of coming from outside the Church, it
came from the inside. The enemy was called heresy. It was
during this period that the first Church councils took place. Each
council met to defend and clarify the most basic tenets of our
faith, the tenets we still profess every week in the Creed. The
early Church instinctively recognized something that today we
rarely even think about: if our idea about God is wrong, then our
idea about how to follow God and achieve our salvation will also
be wrong. And so a whole generation of saints battled heresy to
keep the Catholic idea of God pure. One of the most famous was
St Athanasius, the fourth-century bishop of Alexandria in Egypt.
He fought against the Arian heresy, which denied Christ's divinity.
This heresy tore at the heart of the Church for more than 100
years. St Athanasius was the anchor that supported the pope and
held the true faith in place. But he suffered for it. He was
imprisoned, slandered, framed, and five times he was exiled. He
had to hide in the desert to escape being murdered. He endured
all of that in order to keep intact these "subtle theological
distinctions" that the Church is reminding us of today.
The Holy Spirit has always made it a top priority to keep safe this
precious revelation about the nature of God. That has not always
been an easy task, because corrupting this doctrine is one of the
devil's favorite tactics. The devil understands very well that if we
have the wrong idea about who God is, we will easily be deceived
by wrong ideas about how to follow him. This is what happened to
our first parents in the Garden of Eden. The devil convinced them
that God's command against eating the forbidden fruit was
unreasonable. He made Adam and Eve think that God was
deceitful, angry, and unfair. He changed their idea of God, and
that opened them up to being distrustful and disobedient. Our
idea about who God is and what he is like always affects how we
live. This is seen clearly in ancient, pagan societies. In many
cases, pagan religions had the idea that God was just like nature:
violent, greedy, and unpredictable. As a result, they lived in fear
of being destroyed by God. In these cases, their religious
practices consisted of performing sacrifices that would pacify this
dangerous God. We even see this at work in the great world
religions. Do you think Muslim suicide bombers would be able to
blow up innocent people if they believed God was a Trinity, a
community of love, who loves all men, believers and unbelievers,
sinners and the innocent? Sometimes we may wonder why God
even bothered to reveal the truth about his inner, Trinitarian
nature, since he knew it would be impossible for us to understand
it completely. But God knew what he was doing. He knew that
our idea about what he is like would profoundly affect our idea
about
how
to
follow
him.

CARTA DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO
Queridos Parroquianos,
"Dios de Dios, luz de luz" en el mundo de hoy, tendemos que
pensar un poco de las sutiles distinciones teológicas que
encontramos en el credo de Nicea que rezamos todos los
domingos. Para la mente moderna, las práctica, parecen
demasiado teóricas. Pero debemos recordar que en épocas
pasadas la Iglesia defendió estas verdades con su sangre. En
el primer período de la historia de la iglesia, nuestro mayor
enemigo era el imperio romano, que durante trescientos años
trataron de extinguir el cristianismo por las persecución
violenta. Pero sobrevivimos ese ataque, y finalmente el
catolicismo fue la religión dominante del Imperio. Cuando eso
sucedió, cambió nuestro mayor enemigo. En vez de venir de
fuera de la iglesia, vino desde el interior. El enemigo llamaba
herejía. Fue durante este periodo que ocurrieron los primeros
consejos de la iglesia. Cada Consejo se reunía para defender
y clarificar los principios más básicos de nuestra fe, los
principios que todavía profesan cada semana en el credo. La
iglesia primitiva reconoció instintivamente algo que hoy
raramente incluso pensamos: Si nuestra idea de Dios está
mal, entonces nuestra idea acerca de cómo seguir a Dios y
lograr nuestra salvación también será incorrecta. Y así toda
una generación de Santos lucharon contra la herejía para
mantener pura la idea católica de Dios. Uno de los más
famosos fue St. Atanasio, el obispo del siglo IV de Alejandría
en Egipto. Luchó contra la herejía arriana, que negaba la
divinidad de Cristo. Esta herejía se rasgó en el corazón de la
iglesia por más de 100 años. St. Atanasio fue el ancla que
apoyó al Papa y la fe verdadera. Pero él sufrió por ella. Fue
encarcelado, difamado, enmarcado, y cinco veces fue
exiliado. Tuvo que esconderse en el desierto para escapar de
ser asesinado. Él soportó todo eso con el fin de mantener
intactas esas "sutiles distinciones teológicas" que la Iglesia
nos recuerda hoy.
El Espíritu Santo siempre ha hecho una prioridad para
mantener a salvo esta preciosa revelación sobre la naturaleza
de Dios. No siempre ha sido una tarea fácil, porque esta
doctrina de la corrupción es una de las tácticas favoritas del
demonio. El diablo entiende muy bien que si tenemos la idea
equivocada de quien es Dios, fácilmente nos dejaremos
engañar por ideas erróneas acerca de cómo seguirlo. Esto es
lo que les ocurrió a nuestros primeros padres en el jardín del
Edén. El diablo los convenció que el mandato de Dios de no
comer la fruta prohibida no era razonable. Hizo creer a Adán
y Eva que Dios los engaño, y que era injusto. Él cambió la
idea de Dios, y los iso ser desconfiados y desobedientes.
Nuestra idea sobre quién es Dios y lo que es como siempre
afecta a cómo vivimos. Esto se ve claramente en las
sociedades antiguas y paganas. En muchos casos, las
religiones paganas tenían la idea de que Dios era como la
naturaleza: violento, codicioso e impredecible. Como
resultado, vivieron con el temor de ser destruido por Dios. En
estos casos, sus prácticas religiosas consistían en realizar
sacrificios para apaciguar a este Dios peligroso. Incluso
vemos esto en el trabajo de las grandes religiones del mundo.
¿Qué opinas de los musulmanes suicidas que son capaces
de volar a gente inocente si tan solo creyeran en Dios que es
una Trinidad, una comunidad de amor, que ama a todos los
hombres, creyentes y los incrédulos, los pecadores y los

inocentes? A veces podemos preguntarnos por qué Dios se
molestó incluso a revelar la verdad sobre su naturaleza
interior, trinitaria, puesto que él sabía que sería imposible
para nosotros comprender totalmente. Pero Dios sabía lo que
estaba haciendo. Sabía que nuestra idea sobre cómo es
afectaría profundamente nuestra idea acerca de cómo
seguirlo.

acciones y pensamientos.

Jesús envió al Espíritu Santo para que nos ayude a conocer y vivir la
verdad. Para prepararnos, necesitamos abrir nuestros corazones para
recibir este don antes de poder darlo. Desarrollemos una rutina de
oración diaria para pedirle al Espíritu Santo que guie nuestros
pensamientos y acciones.
ORACION A LA SANTISIMA TRINIDAD- Te adoro, Santísima
Trinidad, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo, tres personas y un solo Dios.
Me postro en el abismo de mi nada ante tu divina majestad. Creo
firmemente y estoy dispuesto a dar la vida en testimonio de todo lo
que nos ha revelado en la Sagrada Escritura y de los misterios que
por medio de tu Iglesia nos has manifestado. En ti deposito mi
confianza; y de tu mano, Dios mío, vida única, esperanza mía, deseo,
espero y quiero recibir todos los bienes, espirituales o corporales,
que pueda alcanzar en esta vida o en la otra. Desde hoy y para
siempre te consagro mi cuerpo y mi alma, todas mis potencias, la
memoria, el entendimiento, la voluntad y todos mis sentidos. Te
prometo no consentir jamás, en cuanto esté de mi parte, en que se
infiera la más mínima ofensa a tu divina majestad. Propongo
firmemente dedicar toda mi existencia, mis facultades y energías, a
tu servicio y gloria. Estoy dispuesto a sobrellevar ludas las
adversidades que tu mano paternal quiera imponerme para dar gusto
a tu corazón. Quisiera esforzarme con todo mi ser, para que todos
sirvan, glorifiquen y amen a Dios su Creador. Me gozo intensamente

COLLEGE FORMATION PROGRAM
The Live-in Weekend at Holy Trinity Seminary offers men in their senior year of high school
through age 28 who are discerning a call to diocesan priesthood an opportunity to experience
first-hand life in the seminary. Participants are invited to join the seminary community at prayer,
in classes at the University of Dallas, socials, and other scheduled events throughout the weekend.
The college formation program not only prepares students in philosophy and the liberal arts, but
also brings to maturity their understanding of the faith, assisting them to develop spirituality

cannot or does not use the facility as scheduled,
