To all of our Mothers on this MOTHERS’ DAY, may you feel the love your
families have for you as they appreciate all the sacrifices you have made, the
challenges you have overcome and the prayers you have offered for them. May
women who are not themselves mothers know how grateful we are that they
have loved us with motherly care and compassion. May God continue to bless
all women with courage and everlasting hope in the risen Lord and give them
the peace of the eternal love of our Holy Mary, Mother of God.

The Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court #340 announces the 2nd
Annual Lady Katherine A. Woodyard Memorial Book Scholarship which will be
awarded to a high school senior accepted to a college or university who is a
parishioner at St. John the Evangelist. Deadline for submissions of applications
is May 29, 2016. All prospective applicants should see a member of the scholarship committee or a member of Court #340 for an application. Applications will
also be posted in the foyer of the church for the duration of the application period
and will include contact information for the scholarship committee members.

“Ser mamá, de sus hijos…
El Día de las Madres es también es una oportunidad para reflexionar
una vez más en el hecho de la maternidad, particularmente en la relación que se entabla entre una madre y sus hijos.
La vida de una persona cobra otro sentido cuando la paternidad toca a
su puerta. Las posibilidades de guiar y orientar a un nuevo se lograrán
tanto cuanto los padres estén capacitados para ello. Específicamente, el
papel de la madre es importante en el desarrollo de los hijos, sin embargo éste debe diferenciarse en la medida en la que los hijos crecen,
adquieren capacidades, conocimientos y se relacionan con su entorno.
La maternidad, vocación a la que evidentemente sólo están llamadas
las mujeres, es algo sagrado. El apóstol San Pablo, en su carta a los
Gálatas, nos recuerda que “Al llegar la plenitud de los tiempos, envío
Dios a su Hijo, nacido de mujer”.
¿Cómo eligió Dios entrar a la historia? A través de una mujer,
empleando el modo que regaló al hombre para participar en la
Creación del mundo, para traer a la tierra, a través del amor, a nuevos
seres, hechos a “imagen y semejanza de Dios”, según diría el Génesis.
¿Qué especie de vínculo se genera entre una madre y su hijo? Es
inexplicable. O quizá todo lo contrario. Es el amor de madre. Es
aquella fuerza, aquella entrega y sacrificio que algunos han equiparado
con el amor que Dios tiene al hombre, mismo que se manifestó en la
cruz del Calvario.
Las transformaciones culturales que llevan a la mujer a buscar la felicidad fuera de casa tienen esta seria debilidad. Las mujeres que son
madres entienden de esto. Saben bien la capacidad que tiene un
pequeño para ayudarlas a encontrar fuerzas para la vida diaria.
Esta relación especial es el principio de nuestras sociedades. De ahí
que su ruptura nos tenga enfrascados en muchas de las crisis que hoy
vivimos. El tejido social ha perdido cohesión porque el vínculo de
amor madre-hijo ha sufrido una seria modificación.
Cómo explicar si no los hechos que de repente vemos en las noticias.
Hijos abandonados, callejeros, delincuentes, adictos, olvidados, solitarios, en búsqueda de un amor correspondido…
Las madres entregadas a sus hijos, que se desviven devotamente
velando por sus intereses y necesidades, merecen un reconocimiento.
Aquellas que valientemente quisieron ser portadoras de vida merecen
nuestros aplausos más sentidos.
No así los hijos que, de forma ingrata, consciente o inconscientemente,
regateamos cariño y comprensión a aquella que nos cargó en su vientre
y que quiso darnos todo de sí.
Es tal nuestra capacidad de corrupción que hemos sabido de casos
dolorosos en los que los hijos se vuelven contra sus padres para arrebatarles riqueza y reconocimiento, a cambio del abandono y el olvido.
Para no ir tan allá, quizá sea momento de recordar una vez más el sacrificio que representó cada uno de nosotros en la vida de nuestras
madres. En vida o no, nuestra mamá requiere nuestro reconocimiento y
gratitud, antes de que, si esto es posible, el tiempo haga estragos en
aquéllos.
El Día de las Madres nos anima a replantear lo sagrado de la maternidad, la gran bondad de tener una mamá. Es un día en el que vale la
pena repensar el trato que le damos y que, por su amor, ella nos regala.
Felicidades a todas las Madres, pero especialmente
aquellas que han dejado de ser ellas, y han hecho de
su maternidad su vida y su razón de ser, que Dios las
bendiga siempre!!!.”

Congreso Eucarístico
Recuerde que el próximo Congreso Eucarístico de Atlanta es
Junio 4 a partir de las 8 AM en el “International Convention
Center” de College Park. Ya estamos anotando a las personas que
estén interesados en adquirir la playera que nos identificará como
Comunidad Parroquial de San Juan. Informes al final de las
Misas. Valor de cada playera $ 6 (tallas XL o mayores $1 dolar
extra).
Grupo Elisha
Jóvenes entre los 15 y 25 años que quieran hacer parte de este
proyecto de nuestra parroquia. Nos reunimos todos los Viernes a
las 6 PM en los salones del catecismo. Bienvenidos a ser parte de
esta nueva Aventura en nuestra comunidad de San Juan. Padres
de familia, por favor apoyen a sus hijos en este proyecto parroquial. Queremos hijos buenos, tenemos que invertir tiempo
