St. Edward Catholic Church 5788 Thornton Ave. Newark, CA 94560 (510) 797-0241 Missionaries of the Precious Blood Third Sunday of Easter Honor Thy Mother and Father Each November, our Parish families remember in prayer their deceased loved ones on All Souls Day. This holy tradition reminds us that our prayers help souls destined for heaven and encourages us to live holy lives. To contribute to our “Jubilee Year of Mercy” opportunities, and more specifically the Spiritual Act of Mercy which is Praying for the Living and the Dead, we would like to expand on our November tradition and offer an opportunity to specifically remember our living and deceased mothers and fathers in a special way. We will begin with the month of May to commemorate our mothers, grandmothers and other special women in our lives by having envelopes on which to write the names of your beloved available in the pews during Mass. Please write their names on the remembrance envelope and place it in the collection basket. It is also okay if you take it home and return it at a future date, either to the parish office or in next week’s collection basket. Your remembrance requests will be placed on the Altar during the Masses on Mother’s Day and then will remain in the sanctuary throughout May as a visible reminder of the gift of prayer we offer for our loved ones. Looking ahead, we plan to offer the same opportunity for the Fathers in your life. Those envelopes will become available in late May, and will remain in the sanctuary during the month of June. (Mother’s Day Envelopes are available in the Rectory too.) Clergy Rev. Jayababu Nuthulapati, C.PP.S, Pastor Rev. James Franck, C.PP.S, Parochial Vicar Rev. Frankline Rayappa, C.PP.S. Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend Think of how tired, discouraged and frustrated the apostles must have been in the Gospel reading today. Then Jesus shows up and tells them to try one more time. Because they were willing and obedient, Jesus blessed them abundantly. It works the same way in our own lives today; if we trust in Jesus and do what He tells us to do we will receive His abundant blessings! Allow the grace of God to strengthen, renew and rekindle your marriage relationship. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends are August 5-7 and Nov. 18-20. Early registration, 4 to 6 weeks out is highly recommended. For more information contact Ray & Roberta @ 916.806.4601 or Joe & Sue @ 925.680.7767 now or go to oaklandwwme.org Weekends are presented in the Pleasanton/Dublin area. Would you like to help with the cost of flowers, hosts, wine and candles. If you want to make this donation in memory of a loved one, we will publish this in the bulletin to thank the family.
